As N4S posted the other day a modded Kat with a trailer, may look nice, how many of us would really buy one or haul one with our sports bike???

Thats what I am saying Larryg. It looks like a good idea, but our bikes are not made to haul like this.

Other than my daughter, I don't ride 2-up because of what it does to my handling, let alone dragging something behind

If you can't fit it on the bike, you don't need it.

Is that a trailer from UNI? The UNI trailers are awesome. One of the guys at the Deal's Gap store rides a VFR and pulls a UNI behind it. According to him, he doesn't even know it's there. Yeah, he drags knees with a trailer behind him. How cool is that?

You would be the only person to say yeah. :bash: If you want to haul anything and it can not fit on your bike, then like No Worries said, you don't need it. Buy a Goldwing or BMW if you want to bring enought stuff to need a trailer. Or bring your bike down on a trailer.

I don't know that I'd try to drag a knee with a trailer back there, but the good thing about it is you can go where you want and haul extra stuff, then unhook the trailer and ride like hell once you get there.

a bike is as much a mode of transportation as it is a beast of enjoyment for us...its there, its got an engine and wheels and seat...if it can handle it..do it. ask a goldwinger...its the same concept, just a different kind of bike. :bash:

Also..buy a tankbag if needed but not a trailer.

12-19-2004, 05:22 PM
A tankbag isn't going to hold near as much as a trailer will. Goldwings are built for traveling yes, with all the luxeries, but the trailers aren't built on or come with it, it's an accessory that many of those types of riders wouldn't be without. :) Im not seeing how this is such a debate, if a motorcycle can do the job you want it too, why not let it do the work so the rider is more comfortable. Sportbike or otherwise, it can do it with no problem at all. Just my :2cents:

If our bikes were made to haul alot of crap, they would have made them with luggage compartments. u need to stop sniffin the diaper bag man :here: ..WTF are you talking about????. Nobody ever said sportbikes couldn't be used to haul a trailer. sportbike or sport tourer, doesn't matter. It can still do the job!! Since when is there a rule stating what sportbikes cant and can be used for ? Why cant a sportbike have the same advantages as a cruiser, in that they can haul a trailer too? what, are we supposed to be just suffer with all the gear and bags on when we can do it an easier way ? :skep: The majority of bikes don't come standard with saddle bags built right on, but thats why manufacturers make them in the first place, as add-ons !!! So people can have the option to use the bike for more than 1 purpose! I hardly think a tankbag is gonna haul as much as a trailer will, and even if it does comes even in the same zip code as hauling a fair amount (depending on the bag itself of course) who in the world wants all that bulk in front them for an extended period of time. Yes they are used to haul stuff, and are very versatile and come in real handy, but why bog urself down on a long trip, if u dont have too. ? And even though wings have saddlebags built on standard, they can get even more room and not sacrifice comfort w/ a trailer !! That's why they make trailers in the first place and they are so popular. :)

I never said you couldn't get one for a sports bike. I just said it doesn't look right nor should you do it. I myself being a person who rides a sports bike all the time knows how it fells after being on it for a long period of time. And if your going to go as far as you need to and need a trailer to haul behind you, your going to damn far on that bike and need to put it on a trailer and take it there. And CJD your right about the "boils down to a matter of opinion". When you ever get a chance to ride up on front of a sports bike, you try riding it for a long period of time and tell me how you feel. I've done it and I know how it feels. I've riden a 7.5hr trip before with plenty of stops on the way to stretch out my legs and loosen up. It doesn't take to long to get right back to the point you just were before your last stop. So in my opinion, if your going to be going that far that you need to pull a trailer with your bike, just put the bike on a trailer. Its a hell of alot more comfortable. This is all just my :2cents:

You just proved my point..if ur gonna ride that far, why not have a trailer..save yourself the agony of all the gear from an already long, tiring ride. having a trailer behind you isnt going to hinder you in any way. What difference does it make how far you've ridden,we've all ridden long distances and know its tiring on the body but thats one of the great things of riding a bike, is being able to get out and enjoy the scenery and be one with your bike..there's tons of people every day that ride for countless hours on end, and enjoy every bit of it. If you have the chance to do it, why not do it. and if so, why bog urself down with all that gear when you can pull a trailer and make urself as comfortable as possible. Yes u can haul the bike if u want..but there's advantages to riding it long distances too alot of them. :skep:
