Is anyone on here a correctional officer?

I have an interview with the Federal Prison next week and thought I'd see if anyone on here is, or has been, a C.O. If so, do you have any stories, insight, or words of wisdom? I've already ordered a few books on the mind games inmates play, but thought I'd see if anyone here has any info or suggestions.

Oh... and in most women's prisons there are no rules against having sex with the inmates... :dthumb:

There is usually some pretty good programs on history channel and such about life inside prisons. If you can do that job, more power to you. I wouldn't want it.

Go to blockbuster and rent a couple seasons of Oz. One of the grittiest, best shows ever made and it's an inside look at prisons supposedly based on officers and inmates accounts of what really happens.

My bro just got a new job yesterday (starts on monday I think) as a C.O. at a long term juvvie correctional facility. Not as hardcore as prison but personally I would rather work at a prison than with **** head kids all day. I'll ask him about it next week and tell you what he says.

Don't believe everything you see on tv. They have a code of rules that are a lot tougher than on the outside. You give inmates respect, and most will return it. Naturally there are always a few azz holes you'll have to put in check, but that is usually few and far between. Normally after you work in a facility for a while, you'll be able to sense when tention is up and **** is gonna hit the fan. Cons will try and play ya to see what they can get away with and you have to control that right away. And of course, never turn your back on anyone. C.O. work is a good place to start and you can learn alot, but tough to make a long term career.

Great job if you donot have family, like dealing with low lifes. Have hired few X cons under job rehab programs. Been told gangs are ruthless, will follow guards home. You are now owned by that gang, or your family will pay. Just how do think most drugs get into prisons? Thats right, guards owned by gangs.

That's not quite how it works, although I'm sure they could possibly get word to the outside to have someone follow a guard home. Usually the inmates will play a game on the guards, slowly getting them to be friendly, then getting a small illegal favor. In general, once they have the small rule violation, they have something over the guard, then force him to bring stuff in or they'll rat him out. There are many different ways they play their games, but it comes down to the fact the guard was dishonest in the first place and let a minor violation slide. The games can be so in depth and slow that it takes years to get the guard to bring in the drugs or other contraband. Yes, the drugs usually get brought in by guards "owned" by the inmates. When the guard chooses not to anymore, or the inmate gets bored with the ease of the game, the guard gets injured or killed, if he doesn't get caught and fired first.

X con who was member of Nuestra Familia, told me they went after guards who had wife, kids. Said if they found out where they lived, they owned that guard. Guards would not risk having family killed, by going to authorities. Also said that guard may only bring in drugs one or two times year. As most of guards at San Quentin who had wife, kids are owned by one gang or another.

Probably also a good idea not to discuss it with other guards since you don't know who is too friendly with the inmates.
