So i set off to go see a friend of mine in so-cal yesterday. I have made the drive many times by car, and twice by motorcycle so I didn't think much of it. it was a little overcast when i left sacramento at 10:30, I figured about 5-6 hours later I would pull into Los Angeles about 4:30.
wrong, an hour or 2 past sac the winds really start whipping up hard and the gas station person says they are expecting SNOW over the pass that you have to take over hwy 5 to get into los angeles. its a 385 mile ride going down hwy 5.
So I end up taking a cut off road to go from the inland part of cali to get to the coast which is 56 miles, then I have to take the coast road down to los angeles. (not the 1 that litterally hugs the coast, but the 101 which goes pretty close to it). it is a much twistier road way than interstate 5 which is very straight.
So the wind is gusting up to 35 mph with a steady 15-17mph cross wind the entire way. when i am 170miles from los angeles it starts pouring rain. oh yeah not to mention the sand storm for about 5 mins i had to ride through in san luis obispo.
i am soaked below the waist but when i make it into Los Angeles is dry enough out that the wind drys me off as I ride.
I finally pull in to my friends house at 8:30. 485miles vs 385 miles and much slower roadways. no fun. she made it worthwhile when I got there though :dthumb:.
looks like it will be nice when i ride home tomorrow though, so all is well!
