Okay so I got a new job and since I'm in the habit of going to the gym in the morning I'd like to continue. Problem is I won't have time to have a proper meal before work, so any suggestions from the gym goers out there?
My requirements are:
-must be healthy (not body builder amount of protein but some would be good).
-must be tastey
I've heard a lot of people like Muscle Milk but that it has quite a bit of fat so that's out.
:thx2:

Comment: Look at EAS. They have some pretty good stuff for everybody. I used to be a personal trainer and used EAS with my over-weight clients right up to the aspiring olympian I was training. :dthumb:
Question: Is that you in the pic?

Yes, that's me..kinda. It's an old picture. Back to the topic though, doesn't EAS have quite a few different drinks? Any specific one that would be better?

Wow.. I'd crash if you pulled up next to me on a bike... :yikes:
As for the EAS products, it's really dependent on what you are looking for in a supplement. Not only do they have drinks, but they have "power bars" that are pretty good. What exactly would you like to accomplish? Tone/define, bulk up and build..? Or just to replenish energy?

Essentially, I'm trying to tone. But I also need something to replenish my energy and keep me going till lunch. I'm not trying to bulk up so I don't think I need huge amount of protein but I know that some would be good.

I'll work something up and PM it to you. If you really want to get serious, I could work up a work out and diet plan for you.. Just sort of time consuming.. I might feel generous enough to do it for free for a fellow biker.. :dthumb:

Best protein is "Optimum Nutrition" (ON Whey)
Gr1n1n 03-18-2008, 12:31 AM nutriment is pretty decent. About 15 grams of protein (nothing crazy) and it comes in a couple different flavors which make it somewhat tasty.

Well, I don't need a whole diet plan. I'm pretty good with nutrition things these days. I've had some practice. Basically I just don't have time in the morning to make a breakfast that would fit my needs. I'm keeping my calories under 2k and limiting sugar and all that fun stuff. Thanks for the offer though :dthumb:
And thanks everyone else. I'm gonna see if I can look all of these up and compare. :)

Like I said, go with EAS.. I guess if you don't want to hear my suggestions.. :moon:
Eating isn't all about calories. When I was 255 and wanted to get into serious fighting shape, about 225, (I was training for pro boxing) I would have to force myself to eat. I was eatng 2300 calories a day on the days I wasn't training and about 2750 on the days I was. Eating is about how often and what you eat... And wrapped therein, how much you eat when you do eat. It's tough, takes a TON of discipline and dedication. (Discipline and dedication that I don't have right now) If are interested more, I can vomit the rest of my knowledge to you... :puke:

Well for your information I bought the EAS today :moon:
And yeah, I know that you can put all the time and energy into diet that you have. At this point though, I eat a pretty balanced diet, don't have time to eat 5-6 times a day but it's enough that I don't have to take vitamins or any other supplements really. Since I am trying not to lose muscle though I'm taking a little extra protein and carbs (plus, again, no time to eat a real meal). I do just fine, I'm not over weight, in fact I'm at the lower end of the spectrum, just trying to tone up. Nutrition is pretty much my back up career at this point so you're preaching to the choir.
Thanks everyone, once I try this stuff I'll let you know if my search is over.
ptowntsi 03-19-2008, 03:58 AM this is what I do in the mornings when i don't want to make breakfast.
blend 1/3 cup of oats in a blender, 2 scoops protein powder (27g protein), 1 1/2 cups 1% milk, 5 large frozen strawberries.
this gives me good carbs from the oats, protein, and it tastes good from the strawberries. you can mix it up with a banana or other berries if you want.
i don't buy any of those muscle milk, eas, myoplex stuff.

If you are trying to tone then you need Protien. Protien will not bulk you up, it is not a wieght gainer. It helps build lean muscle by repairing muscle fibers faster and allowing you to work out much more frequently. Bulking up comes from heavy wieght/low reps and eating an ass load of food. So to answer your question Brie, I take an energy supplement followed by a protien drink post workout. For breakfast I would recommend eating a Banana, and maybe adding peanut butter to your drink since it is taking away your breakfast which is the most important meal of the day therefore should contain the most calories.

(insert Stewie voice here) Victory is mine!!! Chaulk up 1 for the big guy!
Toning = high reps low to medium weight. Ensure that you get the FULL range of motion in the exercises you do and even if you aren't struggling, flex while you are doing the exercises. Core work outs are HUGE for toning. Weak core = weak everything else. If your core isn't toned, the rest of your body probably won't be. I may be a fat ass now, but I have pictures to prove the 6% body fat at 235lbs. Wish I lived in AZ so I could teach you a few things in the gym. Glad to hear nutrition is important to you, because it used to be to me.. now I'm just a big fluffy teddy bear  aspiring to be like I was but don't want to put in the work because my job requires, on average, about 65 hours a week... :luck:

I usually eat bananas in the morning, if I have time I eat it a few hours after breakfast but I'd like to blend it into a shake if I ever get the money for a blender.

I know what toning is. And I may be out of shape now but I have..well not pictures but my memories to prove that I used to be quite fit. Training for motocross definitely had an effect back in the day. Anywho, right now I can afford a trainer but I am trying to find a work out partner and I'm working out a new routine for in the gym also. Should work just fine, as long as I don't die of exhaustion the first week. Between work and school I probably put in about 80 hours a week.

Ok, I get your point... :hang: no mas suggestiones
airforceranger49 03-21-2008, 04:42 AM also, u might want to check out some cellmass... u can either take it for recover (once a day) or as a supplement (twice). they have different flavors, and they all dont taste too bad. and it doesnt have alot of fat and just plain crap in it like whey does. that, and it REALLY helps with recovery... i mean, after about a weeks use... u can do the hardest workout of your life, and you will NOT feel sore the next day. hope that helps

Stupid question: do you cook the oats first, or put them in raw? I like the sound of your recipe and will try it.

Uncooked would be better. :dthumb: You lose a lot of the good nutrients when you cook them.

Thanks for the suggestion. I bought the smallest package of EAS that I could find so if I don't like it I'm going to go looking for all of the other suggestions and try them one by one. :)

Haha. Okay then.
ScottSellersUNR 03-30-2008, 12:14 PM EAS has good ones that are not to body builderish..
ALSO the Slimfast HIGH PROTEIN shakes are good too 15 or so grams of protein and full range of vitamins.. and cost a lot less.
ALSO.. if you wanna work out and do it A LOT more intensly.. not necessarily weights, but running or anything.. try some stuff from Preciscion Engineered called NOS Blast.. its not a meal replacement it gives you a lot of sustained energy during the work out you take it 30-45 minutes before u work out, half of it then sip the rest during workout.. and its low cal.. less then a soda.
I have bene hitting the gym 3-6 days a week 1-2 hours a day now for 4 months doing endurance trianing and weights and have lost about 30 lbs of fat and gained aobut 10 in muscle. I went from about 20% body fat to 12% and gained 2" in arms and 4" in chest, its all about the diet you eat for your personal goals and getting lots of sleep and a TON more water then u htink u need. I went from 205 to 191 lbs currently and the diet you eat is least as important as the workout.
You what late 20's? For toning youll want it to be by excersize more then just running off the weight. 2K calories a day with a lot of excersize should be good.. keep in mind to tone you are still needing more then average protein in diet.. id aim for 100-120 grams a day 7 days a week to help.
I eat 2,500 calories or so on off days and 3-4K on trianing days, trianing days for me are 220-240 grams a day though.. Half that for being a woman and for toning not building.

I didn't know that the slimfast shakes were any good, thanks. I'll have to look into them.
I'm currently using EAS Myoplex, and I make chocolate milk with one scoop (half of a serving) and that has about 30 gm of protein I figure. I'm trying to get around 80 total. On days that I train I eat 2.5-3k calories, mostly because I simply don't have time to eat six meals. I'm thinking that this is okay for the time being. Since I've started I haven't really lost any weight so I don't know that it will matter. Does keep my metabolism lower though.

Sorry if this was answered already. I didn't read all the posts in here. I saw a few people reccomend EAS products. I'll 2nd and 3rd that. Look into the Myoplex line. Since you aren't trying to gain musle mass, go with the Myoplex light.
There are a few good flavors out there and you can add in fruit to give it different flavors.
