Thinking about getting a bike

I am thinking about getting my first sport bike. I have rode dirt bikes for around 5 years now, I have raced on and off, have rode many 2 strokes and 4 strokes. So I have somewhat of a motorcycle background and knowledge. 600cc bike be to much to start with for someone like me or should I start on something like the new ninja 250: I am already fairly scared of driving it around some of the idiots on the rode (wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for them). Guess what scared me the most is coming around a blind or sharp turn and somebody being part way in my lane and hit me head on, I guess the place to ride in those turns is near the white line? Fiancee doesn't want me to get one really, but she understands I wont ever get over the want of having one until I have one... I have already tried to get it out of my head, but I just wont be satisfied until I at least drive one for a little while.

Thanks.

I guessed the same around on all the knowledge. I was the same as you. Many years in the dirt. I do however have some street exp. My first super sport, which I'm still waiting arrival, got a GSXR750. If you keep the skull on straight and appreicate what the throttle can do, you should be fine. My misses was all for the bike for me, just didn't want to be the widow. Take is slow, get what you want, respect and wear the gear! Cheers and welcome.:luck:

well, i think the fact that your even asking the question "is a 600 too much" shows that you have your head on straight. i think you should be fine with a 600, with all the dirt riding experience u have. as far as what kind of bike... i would suggest goin for a lil bit of an older, cheaper 600... they're not as powerful as the new ones, alot easier on the wallet, and wont make you as pissed when u drop it. and everyone does atleast once. but i think you'll be good with a 600 as long as you keep your head on straight, and dont overestimate your skil. just make sure u get gear... and wear it! and take the msf course, you could be the most experienced rider in the world and still learn something new there, and for beginning riders, you learn alot of stuff that could one day save your life. and as far as you fiance goes... mine was the same way when me and her first got together... she wouldnt even get on the back of it. now 3 years later... she's riding her own! just give it time, get your skill up, and then throw her on the back of it... garuntee she wont want to get off..

hope that helps bro

get a 600, you will outgrow a 250 within weeks.
better yet, get a 750... it's more forgiving than a liter bike and you won't outgrow it. i started on dirt riding as well and outgrew a 600...

the main thing to get used to is the extra weight on street bikes, and avoid using the rear brakes.

edit: wtf is up with the word links? it's annoying when i accidentally hover over it moving my mouse around. there should be at least a 2 second delay to prevent accidentally popping it open.
