Differences?

I'm thinking of getting a bike soon and I'm interested in a BMW. I already have a 4-wheeled bimmer, and I love it. Now I want to try a 2-wheel model. But what is the difference between the R and K-series bikes?

I should mention that I'm not really looking into a superbike. Although it does look really sweet. I doubt I could afford it!

Not an expert by any means, but the K bikes are inlines, usually I4's I believe, and the R bikes are Horizonally opposed 2 cyl's. The classic BMW look with the cyl's poking out the side are R Bikes, although the newer R's are oil/air cooled while the older BMW's are just air cooled. The K Bikes, I believe, are water cooled. BTW, if someone else offers info that contradicts me, I'd tend to believe them. As I mentioned, I'm no expert, just an R bike fan.

As previously stated, the big difference in motors is an inline 4-cylinder (K-series) verses a 2-cylinder horizontally opposed (R-series). If you are looking at the differences between something like the R1200RT and K1300GT that gets a bit tougher. The frames and suspension are also a bit different as is the clutch. If you are in the mood for sport touring, then either bike will do you fine. Go sit on them and take 'em for a ride to see which you like the best. If you think the RT is more for you, I'd suggest getting a 1200 which will put you 2005 or newer. BMW made some substantial suspension changes for 2005 along with moving from the 1150 motor to the 1200 motor. jdg
