Info on wheel huggers?

I was looking at wheel huggers on Ebay. They are only $100 and already painted. I think they are fiberglass...was wandering if anyone had any problems with a fiberglass hugger? I know fiberglass isn't as durable as ABS plastic, so I'm afraid of it cracking or breaking off a chunk if a rock or something hits it. Is it as easy to install as it looks, appears to use existing mounting hardware that is already on the bike. I have a 2001 F4i that is red and pearl white...so what color do you guys think I should go with? I don't have a pic of my bike on here yet, but I'm sure most of you guys know what the color scheme is since honda uses it on others like the 900's. I was thinking to go with the red one. All input is greatly appreciated! :dthumb:

Yes, that problem of chipping does happen to these fiberglass huggers.

But what really sucks is when your chain comes apart at 70mph and 11k RPM's and goes thru your brand new fiberglass hugger!! :cursin:

I remember seeing somewhere, you saying that happened! That had to suck a$$. I would of been :cursin: and :sob: Well then you wouldn't happen to know where I can get an ABS one at then do you? Didn't see any on ebay.

Nope...all of them I've seen are fiberglass....the only abs ones are those that are OEM, like on a GSXR or R6...

Well then, in your opinion..are they even worth getting?

Well, if you have a painted undertail it's the only way to save it from the sandblasting it's going to get... they do look good but they do have their downsides! Let's see what everybody else says!

The undertail is white ABS plastic that matched pretty good, so I didn't paint it for that reason. I get loads of dirt and street grime there though. So, yeah, lets see what others have to say about it.

my Z1000 comes with a stock ABS hugger.. painted black to match the bike, never had a prob with it... I still get grime on the undertail form riding in rain, but i cant imagine all the chips and crap id get form rocks if it wasnt there..You may wanna see if your bike shares the hugger with any other bikes.. mine does with the Zx636 so u may be able to find a OEM part # to fit it....Find what parts your bike shares with others and go form there... I know mine is almost all Zx-9R and Zx636R parts.. i can find em anywhere.

Good luck hope u can find one... good part is if u can get one form another bike u can ebay it for cheap and still get ABS instead of Fiberglass.. also, if its not possible then spend the extra and get CF.. its strong and wont crack like FG...plus it looks sweet if u pair it with a front fender

I'm not sure if this guy has parts for your bike, and I can't tell if those are TRUE carbon fiber parts or just look-a-likes, but the prices sure do look nice.

Yeah, I'll have to check into the part sharing thing. Guess I'll check the other cbrs, not sure which hondas have wheel huggers already.

As for the carbon fiber parts, yeah they are good prices, just don't have anything cf on the bike...don't know if I want any at this time either.

I might try out the fb hugger, at $100 already painted is a good price. I'll look around a bit before I buy and hopefully get some more opinions here.

I am on my second painted fiberglass hugger for the 03 GSXR 600 AL*STARE edition.
The first one met its end at a little over 200 miles from a nail in the rear tire.
It ripped it almost in half.
The second is surviving but, the chips are showing badly with maby 1000 miles.

If they even have a lifespan of under 20K mi i'd say spoend the money now on VF instead of later....the ABS or CF will stay brand new looking with proper care.

We have a new line of huggers. Haven't seen one yet in person, but their undertail kids and undertail exhausts are pretty kick ass looking. Factory-paint matched to boot.

I have links to the fenders, undertail exhausts and undertail kits on our main catalog page.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone on here has one of these yet and what they think of them.

I didn't see it on there, not much time to look through it all. Do you know how much they are and what they're made of?

Are they ABS or fiberglass, it doesn't say?

The huggers are all fiberglass. ABS is an injection molded plastic and a little more flexible. I read in this thread that someone was complaining about chipping. That isn't because it's fiberglass or ABS. It is really a function of the product. How thick it is. The resin they use, etc. They may have purchased one that is thin, and not as well made. I think you'll be pretty hard pressed to find and ABS hugger from my experience, but just wanted you to know that it's more a function of the product than it is ABS vs. plastic.
