Progressive was the most expensive for me at $1500 a year. Foremost (usually through Farmers) was $944. State Farm was $200. Who do you think I went with? All of those quotes were for full coverage. However, at the age of 16, I'll be surprised if State Farm will cover you.

Instead of you getting the insurance, have you mom add you to her plan and the bike. It will raise hers up a bit for a high-risk person like you(and I mean that because you are new to riding /driving, they all do that for new ppl driving and riding) but it will be cheaper overall.

Progressive was by far the most expensive. Farmers Insurance was great but dont do any big bikes, for my F4 I think it was $286/yr. State Farm is by far the best I have found lately - $580/yr for the 1K Yea, I would say your probably going to have to have mom on your policy. But make sure you take all possible classes/tests and that will (hopefully) help as well.

Progressive is only interested in insuring HD's bulldog... Try State Farm, or Farmer's, or every other place in the phone book besides Progressive.

on while we are on the subject what does liablility cover , comprehensive cover and collision cover. im quesitoning myself about comprehensive and collision casue if you lowside your bike it is the roads fault usually and you didnt collide with another car. would that be comprehensive like if you where in the snow and ran off the road in your car.

Dat be correct..... liability covers the other persons car when you hit it. Collision covers your car for that accident, and comprehensive covers everything else(hopefully).

yeah but what exactly does comprehensive cover? caseu at my age 20 collision is just way too much, 2-3 years of me paying insurence i could have bought a new bike and then some. like what happens if you wreck you bike but it does not involve another vehicle?

As you say, it really depends on the value of your bike.... If it's only worth $3k or $4k, why put $1500 or $2k worth of insurance on it.... unless you have a loan on the bike and it's required. Back in '91 I had a brand new GSXR-750, and I got insurance thru National General Insurance Co. for less than $600/yr. I know I'm quite a bit older than you are, but you might want to check them out. I eventually switched to Progressive b/c I had an RV insured thru them and it was cheaper.

I don't believe that you can get comprehensive without getting collision. But call around to be sure. Besides, I think that collision is what covers you if you have a single vehicle accident. It's still a collision, even if it wasn't with another car. Comprehensive is for theft, fire, hail, vandalism, etc.

you can get comprehensive withough collision, i have it but collision is just ridiculos in price Ok, I learned something new today. Anyway, you might want to look at your policy and/or call your insurance agent to find out EXACTLY what is covered. Just so you're ahead of the game in the event that you do have an accident.

yeah thats what i was planning on doing tomarrow. my step father has been calling around and the places are just saying no we dont insure that, he has a zx12r but he is also like 32 yeah i know im only like 12 years younger. but anyways they wont even insure him at some places. but we are gonna try state farm next. plus it makes it a little cheaper getting insurance with him on it.

I've always heard State Farm really frowns on points though... 2 they warn ya, any more than that they boot ya. Can anyone confirm? One thing I do know, they wouldn't insure my bike w/o having a car policy with them. But the deal was good enough on both to make it worth while to switch.

Well, as far as the car with the bike... that is because they view the bikes as money takers, not money earners for them! But they only charge you for points on your car. In Michigan it is illegal for any insurance company to charge you for points on more than 1 vechicle, because you can only drive one at a time! Also, SF, charges it on your car because it is a primary travel vechicle and the MC is a recreational vechicle!

Yes, they frown on points, HOWEVER, if you have good insurance "credit" (ie, you pay your bills on time, etc.) they will still allow you to be on preferred status with one ticket. As for the second question, gas man has the correct answer. The motorcycle is a recreational vehicle. However, they WILL insure the motorcycle only (at least here), but it is about 2.5 times as much to insure it. They also look at driving history, such as how long you've been driving and how long you've had insurance. 16 year olds basically have no credit, hence no insurance record, so they are automatically higher.

so if my mom does it it will be cheaper (she is looking into it now but im just curious) Yes and no. They rate the vehicle on the youngest person of driving age in the household. It MIGHT be cheaper, but I can't promise that.

See, they can't actually deny to cover you, so they just jack the rates up so high that you won't sign the dotted line...ya know!!

i have experience on this one. i had all of my vehicles in my parents name so i could be under there insurance casue it was cheaper.once the vehicles are in your name only then you have to have your own insurance. i had a 91mustand GT, 96 Jeep Wrangler, and my 04 zx636R. and trust me you dont even want to knwo what i would have had to pay if it was all under my name. my bike is still with my parents and my name so i get a break on the insurance but as soon as i move out i have to take the bike by myself. right now me and my stepfather are on the same insurance plan. the mustang and jeep at age 17 i was paying over 2000 a year with my parents. but im not sure how the bike thing worked becasue i am the person on the title of it but my stepfather co-signed for it so im not sure. and as long as you trust your parents to have stuff in there name so its cheaper do it.

o god, you need comprehensive. trust me you dont want that shat stolen and then be left with nothing. comprehensive should only cost a couple hundred extra. i got progressive for like 500-600 with liability and comprehensive, no collision. Yes its Brand new when i bought it and i do owe money on it but thats the good thing about the Good Times Credit card. you dont ahve to have full. of coarse everytime i call the insurance company they are like ur an idiot for not getting full coverage. and yes i had one guy actually say that to me. :bash: but at 20 Who the fuc can afford like 2000 for there bike when there ofther car is freaking 1500. i dont even have my mustang insured right now. it sits in a garage for 40 a month. man i really need a better paying job :cursin:
