Didn't you say that you already have a jacket, helmet and gloves (although not the newest)? If that's the case, then I'd get a tire(s) because that one (those) will need to be replaced soon. But if you do get $700 out of the dirtbike, you should be able to afford the new tire(s) and pants. The Joe Rocket ballistics will be good enough for normal street use. Trust me, jeans won't do squat. I'd rather have an old (but sturdy) jacket and good pants than a new jacket and a pair of jeans. Also, after buying the new tire(s), remember, they will be VERY slick for the first 60-100 miles, so don't get wild leaning into turns. Slow and easy on new tires.

Several people have said that "yes, you can get just one tire". I was thinking you had a jacket. If you can afford it, grab a jacket and a pair of pants, but yes, at least get the jacket.

Or at least get a JR Phoenix or something - something that will offer protection when riding.. You can get a jacket anyway from $79 to $2,000 and probably higher.. Just get something - hell stitch elbor and back armor into that sweatshirt if you have to.. As far as the tire I have changed backs without changing fronts before but I always matched the same tire that was on there before, etc. And think about it - do you want cheap tires that last a year and you need new ones or do you want to spend a little extra now to get better traction and wear?

speedworks!!!!!! what kind of a deal can you get me on tires?!?! and any suggestons on what one(s) to buy?? or can i get the cheapets The problem with tires is shipping - there's an extra $5 UPS handling fee on top of the normal rates (and a tire weighs about 15lbs). Beyond that ... it's really almost impossible to compete with the big online tire places - we don't order hundreds of sets at a time, so our costs are a lot higher. We pretty much just do tires here at the shop where we can be competative due to being able to mount and balance as part of the price. If it were during the summer, I could send you a race take-off for $65 + shipping that would at least get you a couple thousand miles :) But I don't have any right now. - Brian Roach - SpeedWerks.com

SPEEDWORKS WERE ARE YOU MY MAN!!!......AND WOMAN?!??!?!?!?!?!!?!?! NEED SOME DISCOUNTS :dthumb: Laura's already gone and I'm just shutting down my PCs ... I'll hit you up in the morning with a PM. Honestly, a nice leather jacket from Alpinestars isn't even going to run you $300. AGV also has some really nice stuff that won't kill you (I mean in terms of price!). You can also go the textile route which these days offers almost the same level of protection and is a bit cheaper - I really like a couple of the ones from AGV. Let me look up a few things and I'll PM you with the details. - Brian Roach - SpeedWerks.com

Man, you could get a nice jacket and a set of good rubber for that price. A lot of shops have price guarantees on tires so if you find them cheaper on , we'll say a website, then they'll match it. I just bought some Metzeler Sportec M1's and they are ten times better than my stock dunlops. the front was 93 bucks and rear was 124 , both I got the price from cycle gear and brought the print out to my local shop and they had no problem matching that price. they were trying to charge me 120 front and 150 for the rear. Plus if you buy the tires from them they'll install it free. So look around for shops that will match prices and then try to find the cheapest tires on line or something. that will leave you with about 400 bucks to get some new leathers. cycle gear has frank thomas pants and jacket set for 300 and there bad ass. hope this helps. I think they charge $60 to off & on the tires...with them off the bike! So that's the same price! Good deals! We'd do $275 on a 120/190 set, including mounting and balancing. I just looked up my cost on those .... they're not that expensive. I could do a set shipped for $250 + shipping. They might be on special right now though, which would explain the low cost (I'm at home, don't have my monthly specials sheet from the distributor in front of me - there's a lot right now because of the Indy Dealer Show having been last weekend). - Brian Roach - SpeedWerks.com

I thought you said it would be way higher! Er... I lied? :D *Usually* it is, which is why we don't even try and sell tires on the website. I don't know why people are selling the Pilots for so much ... and like I said, it could just be a one-month special from the distributor (I just looked up our cost in our online ordering system ... which means next month I might not do it at that price ... we only stock one or two sets of each brand in the shop since we get next-day service from the distributor). Anytime I quote prices not on the site, it's by looking at the currrent cost and deciding what we can sell it for and still keep the lights on :) - Roach
