Ok, I couldn't tell you how many threads I've come across on this R6 forum about guys buying an R6 as their very first bike. And many of them have never even taken the MSF course or even RIDDEN a bike at ALL. When I was a kid, I begged my parents for a motorcycle. Didn't get one until I bought my own after I got out of the service. Did parents get dumber or did kids get smarter?

hehe...too scared to ride, thats funny....if you noticed you never see me in threads telling people to get small bikes etc...i'm a firm beleiver that if your gonna buy a first bike and go nuts and get hurt your gonna do it whether its an EX500 or a gsxr1000...just gonna take u less time to hit something.. but the big thing that i do agree on , in buying a cheaper bike is that motorcycle riding isnt for everyone and its not good to shell out 6-8k for a bike and realize you dont really like this means of transportation....just my 2 cents...

they probably have a garage full of other failures... skateboard, surfboard, guitar, mountian bike, four wheeler etc :lol:

Why go out and buy a brand new bike you are going to drop? I started riding Apr last year. I bought an 02 kaw zx7r. My bike has fallen once at the MSF course because some jacka__ knocked it over and once in a parking lot I didn't know asphalt could get that hot. The MSF beginner's course should come before you buy the bike you don't put the wagon before the horse

I know a guy that did the same thing on the same kind of bike. Crashed it before he got out of the parking lot. Got back on it rode it to the house. He was to scared to ride it and sold it after a year with only 36 miles on the clock. :bash: I have never ragged on somebody for what the buy but, I have never recommended a liter bike ether. I don't care if you are 250lb's. :nonod: I do agree with Jack about buying a cheaper used bike to learn on. My wife's first bike was a 1981 Yamaha 400 special I paid $400 for,cleaned the carb's and sent her on her way. She rode it for about 3k then we traded it for a 01 SV650 got $1300 on the Yamaha. :willy: :rofl: :runaway: :lol:

A LOT of people buying their first bike aren't out to go crazy ... they just don't know any better, and have few peers to offer good advice (i.e. get something small to learn on). One of the BIG problems with a new rider being on a modern 600cc sportbike (or anything bigger) is how fast they react to rider input. One of the biggest mistakes new riders tend to make is grabbing a handfull of throttle while trying to hold onto the bike after making some mistake - lost balance, bad reaction to road surface, car pulling out, etc. Panic situations. Dropping 100+ hp to the rear wheel makes things go egg-shaped in a hurry. Nevermind the high center of gravity on sportbikes that makes them a bit unwieldy at slow speeds. My first streetbike was a Virago 636 ... it had all of, oh, 45hp on a good day. I think the center of gravity was about 8 inches off the ground :) Best decision I ever made as it suffered a bad rider without trying to kill him. I bought it brand new for $3k ... and rode it all over the place. Dropped it once in a parking lot, but that was it. When I bought my first modern 600cc sportbike a decade later, it amazed the hell out of me in terms of how fast and responsive it was - and I had probably 70k miles under my belt on a motorcycle at that point! (I had a nighthawk cb700sc that I put 60k miles on ... THAT was a great bike) - Roach

THAT was a great bike) - Roach hmmm, so i guess you guys dont agree with the throwing an infant in the lake to teach it to swim theory either :tt: should have explained a little better, i would not tell someone just starting out to get a big litre bike, but then again, iwouldnt tell them not to...cause i know when i was 16 and wanted a big bike, i would have gotten it, even if 1000 people told me not to... :screwy: I just think that if they were going to speed and do stupid stuff, before they really learn to ride...there gonna get hurt wether its on an ex500 or a busa. I agree the chances are better on a larger bike, but lets not kid ourselves and a new rider into thinking that just becuase its a little bike, you cant get killed if you screw up big time..i think thats what im saying....

WOW to that r6 thread. guy drops his bike probably right at the dealership or whereever he bought it, and the first reply is nice first wheelie. WTF if that where my parents the would have made me put a for sale sign on it and thats that. JK_DILLA- no matter what you do, you must learn to do it well and dont give up. i have a problem with starting other sports, snow boarding, bike, roller blade, atv and dirt bike. i always feel as if i have to try and be the best at what i do and have the best, y i dont know but it seems to work out well.

Something different to ride, tinker on and talk shat about. Its not the fastest or best of anything. I just loveem. Almost as mush as my wife. :wink:
