Looking for first bike!

I am looking for my first bike. I have been looking at 600 to 700 cc "naked" sport bikes such as the Suzuki sv650, Triumph Speed Four, and Honda 599. Does anyone have any suggestions and can someone give me the pros and cons of inline bike engiens vs. v-twins.

WOW, you are asking a hard question... inline vs v-twin... that is all peeps :2cents: I'm a inline guy, but can't say I'm the best guy to speak to, because I haven't put in any serious v-twin seat time... you really have to talk to somebody like Twisty, who has ALOT of miles on both types and both types were good up-to-date machines. The underlined portian above is important cause if you rode a F2 then a say 2003 TLR, those aren't exactly great comparisons... the F2 was old and out of date..the range of age was too great!

I'm biased, as most of us are but... I like the twins. The SV is a good choice.

Split the difference and get a V-4. The Honda 750 Interceptor is a great bike. It has been on most motorcycle magazines "Best Bikes of the Year" lists for a decade. 93-97 were the best, but the earlier ones were very good. Whatever you decide on, definitely get a used one.

nothing is like 14k rpms on an inline 4. its just like heaven.

You might want to get a older used bike since its your first bike. after i bought my r6 i thought i should of have bought used becuase i learned that it will get dropped,its inevitable. probably any rider that started on the lastest greatest new bike, probably thought the same thing when they were learning. if not then they're just not pushing it and learning how to ride a lot slower than everyone else since you just starting and learning to ride you won't even actually use 50% of a new 600's capabilities in corners. might as well try a older, lighter, easier to handle, less powerful bike like a Yamaha FZR or whatever http://www.performancemotorcycles.co.uk/Yamaha%20Products/Yamaha_pics/FZR400RR.JPG

everyone saus they will drop it but i havent yet and hope not to just be carefule!! its not excapable. it will happen how many times you almost dropped your bike doing a lock to lock figure 8's when you were learning to ride? its difficult for everyone at first a lot of newbies usually drop the bike going lock to lock or just a u-turn

my first u turn was fuggin wicked. took one time to figure it out and after that im fine but you first time doing a u turn is interesting.

The never ending debate! Inline - High revving, hard acceleration, peaky power. V Twin - not so high revving, smooth acceleration, power from the bottom to the top of the rpm's, Personal experience is a V Twin would be easier to learn on for the power is so smooth where a Inline can come on hard and strong all at once. The newer fuel injected models aren't as bad but, still have that flaw. :2cents: If you intend on going very fast very quickly or ride high speed sweeping corners than the Inline is the way to go. If you intend riding tight twisty mountain roads than I recommend the Twins. Both have there +'s & -'s so just get what you fell comfortable on and like the looks. BUY USED! for the first bike!

Yea, I like both for there owen things. :wink: There so different in the way they run its wired and even hard to explain. :scratch: So far the only way I have found to get the best of both worlds is to owen at least one of each. :yesnod: A V4 is a little closer but, nobody makes one to handle to my liking. :sob:

The whine of the gear-driven cams is a clincher for buying an Interceptor. I don't like Honda's 800 Interceptor's, but I'd buy an older 750 or 1000 in a second. I would even buy one of the Honda V-4 1100 Sabre's.

Buy my Gixxer. It is sweet!!!
