First Bike for New Rider

What's up people, My question is almost the same as someone who has posted earlier. I'm 5'10 and 180. I'm looking to buy my first bike and need some opinions. My very first bike I jumped on was my friends Ducati 748. WHAT A BIKE. I automatically fell in love and I got the hang of it FAST. He got it for around 7 grand but has put into it a couple of thousands for service, repair etc. If I don't buy the Ducati 748, should I go for a 600 or 750cc? I only started riding for about 4 months and have only around 200 miles under my belt. I'm afraid if I buy a 600cc that in time, maybe within a few months, I'll get used to it and want more power. If I go with the 750cc is it to big? I know for sure a 1000cc is way to big for me right now. Prince: 600cc is way cheaper then a 750cc. Help me out! What did you guys go with as your first bike? i got the same numbers as you and I already want to step up from a 600. I got an 04 R6. Don't get me wrong, it is still fast but I'm just use to it now. I've had it for 6 months and it's my first bike. It's not like I'm sick of it, but I wish Yamaha still made the R7.

Welcome CD. For the price, getting a used gixxer 750, 2000 or older would work. Any used 600 would be great to start on. :dthumb:

I wouldnt go any higher than a 600cc for your first bike, especially with the very limited riding time you have under your belt. 600's are pretty beastly bikes in their own right, and many people spend year s and years on 600's and just love them. The middle class sportbikes are more popular now than ever. A CBR 600 F2 or F3, would be decent. As would a SV 650, but thats pushing it, since the new ones can be wheelie machines for their class. An older ZX6 is a good choice too. I'd steer clear of brand new bikes, cuz when ur new, ur gonna drop it in the garage, or its gonna fall over in the driveway, or ur gonna go down at some point, and why invest all that money into a new ride till you've gotten some decent experience under your belt. If you get a banged up. lots of miles used one you'll regret that ish in about two months. If you can't afford a new bike then wait. It will be worth it when you can. That or be careful about used biznikes. Ask for service reciepts and what not. Ask if it's ever been down etc.

The speed can become normal... but newbies need to explore the possibilities or their bikes.. forget the flat out speed... see how fast you can take the 35mph corner and crap like that... conquer that bike then move up for more speed!!! Oh, and Welcome! :twfrox:

and if your gonna get a new bike. only settle for the best 600 class bike the zx636r, it gives you the power of the gixxer750 but its lighter and better. IMO

Looking at the 600cc series, the 636r does come with the most hp in its class with 118hp. Beats the rest by atleat 9hp and more.

It could easily put down 130 with a few choice mods... and that's nuts!!

yeah and i missed the 05 by a year. but i still love my 04 with pc3/custome map and full exhaust i should be able to get 120-125hp out of it next winter? and i second the good to have you around N4S. thats all everyone needs is another gixxer on the road, following me around casue they cant ever seem to get in front of me. lol

Thanks for all the help. After reading all your post I'm considering going to a 600cc bike. Just to get the hang of it and really master the art of riding before jumping to conclusions thinking I can master a 750cc or higher as a first time bike. o no you did not call a 600cc bike weak. you need a beat down now. lol JK. this is what i also though untill i got my 636. boy was i wrong. in racing the lap times are only a second off between 600cc and 1000cc classes. check out he shoot out reviews for 2005, i have it posted somewehre in here. it will let you know whcih is best.

Nothing wrong with a 600 and they will let you do stupid things that a larger bike will spank you silly for. Anyway, straight line speed is over-rated IMHO. CORNERS is where it's at :dthumb: :dthumb: and a 600 will take long enough to truely master. As for the 748 - how handy are you?? If you enjoy wrenching and have the money for Ducati parts, go nuts. My friend let me ride his 748 a couple weeks ago and I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. My wife was terrified that I might have had the check book with me when I told her I rode it :wink: However, remember that it ain't going to be as reliable as one of the Jap bikes.

They compared all the latest 600s, and had an excellent write-up on all. The bikes they compared were: Yamaha R6, Suzuki GSX-R 600, Triumph Daytona 650, Honda CBR600RR and the Kai ZX-6R. But it still had the most HP. :lol: And another 36cc over the rest of them. :lol: you know it baby. that extra hp in the 636 is like 8-9hp over the rest of the class, but i know they got ti from the extra 37cc but hey if there gonna give it to you take it right, almost like a free upgrade. but i agree with get the 600rr as a first bike. the 636 is a very twitchy bike, reason y i got a damper on order right now.i just love the looks of the 636 especailly 03-04, i like the 05 too but i wich i could have and 05 bike withan 04 rear tail section. :here: that would make me happy

you have to watch some of the reviews done online or in mags. lots of times they rate the bike on things such as comfort, styling, best bang for your buck and stuff like that. when really IMO i want which one performs the best, dyno results track times stuff like that.

600rr is the honda cbr600rr. while i dont think anythign with an r is beginger, hench the R standing for Race. lol but its all good.

is the MV agusta a match for the 999r as far as performance it looks sick but what can it do??? i sure it is pretty nice though!!

yeah it has good performance but mostly its just one of thos italian things, from what i hear riding an italian bike is like a dream. they are set up sooo smoothe and just awsome. the MV is way more expensive than the ducati. even thought any japanese 1000cc bike would probably kill either of those bikes they are just awsome. and if im not mistaken the MV is an inline 4
