Between a 2005 CBR1000 and a 2005 RC51, which would you rather have as a daily driver and why? I can't decide which one I would rather have.
CBR1000 vs RC51aggie03 03-21-2005, 09:54 PM Between a 2005 CBR1000 and a 2005 RC51, which would you rather have as a daily driver and why? I can't decide which one I would rather have. zx636r 03-21-2005, 10:22 PM out of those 2 bikes i would get the RC51. smoother throttle and i have heard alot of good things about them. the cbr1000 is not up to speed with the other 1000cc bikes IMO so therefore i would get the RC51 GSXR1000DJ 03-21-2005, 11:07 PM Almost bought a RC51 a while back. Ride and handle fine for me. I was impressed with the power it had to offer as well.
Ace from WOS has one and I know he'll be able to tell you more on the subjust of the RC51. :dthumb: Gas Man 03-22-2005, 07:17 AM I can't give much on this due to not riding either... but damn those new 1000RR's are SWEET!!! I really like the undertail exhaust and the electronic steering stabalizer is awesome and getting lots of rave reviews last time I checked!!! Cavin, a guy that rides with WOS every once and a while, has one and really likes it. True it isn't up to par with the power of the other liter bikes, but I've heard great things about it's suspension and chassis.
RC51 is a whole nother ball of wax... you are asking to compare 2 totally different bikes! A v-twin vs a inline 4. You're not just asking to choose between a R1 and a 1000RR... aggie03 03-22-2005, 07:34 AM There's no queston they are both great bikes. But it seems like the consensus is the RC51 for a daily driver if I don't care about track time?
Here's another question. Since they both start off with in a $1000 of each other price wise when brand new. Which one holds it's value better in case I sell it in a few years? zx636r 03-22-2005, 07:51 AM ????? i would say the RC51 jsut casue you dont see many.
plus on the subject the 1000cc bike is still a great bike but all the other 1000cc inline4's are better and more powerfull. where as you ahve the rc51 which is probably one of the best vtwins to have, unless you get a ducati 999r or something.lol Gas Man 03-22-2005, 08:09 AM No, the RC51 is by far the best v-twin in my book... zx636r 03-22-2005, 08:15 AM i think so too but you know everyone loves the ducatis.
i mean i would hands down get the RC51 if it was my choice. thirdgenlxi 03-22-2005, 07:16 PM I love the RC51's!! Actually both bikes are awsome, but if I had to choose I'd probably take the RC. I just love the exhaust note of those v-twins.... very distinctive.
When I bought my bike the sales dude was showing me a 2003 RC51.... excellent shape and low miles. Asking more than I could afford though. Also turns out the bike belonged to one of their own employees that had recently been killed, I think in an auto accident or something :nonod: bulldog 03-22-2005, 10:51 PM Between a 2005 CBR1000 and a 2005 RC51, which would you rather have as a daily driver and why? well i have a mag that compairs the rc51 with the 999r and the rc51 suped up wasent to far from the 999r in performance but they said it was a VERY COMFY bike!!! No Worries 03-23-2005, 12:34 AM Honda won a bunch of world races on the RC51 platform. And Honda fixed the FI problems they had with the early ones. It's a great V-twin. And even though the RR is down on power to the other liter bikes, it is much better handling-wise. Two magazines prefered the RR to the other liter bikes. And for the tight twisty roads where I ride, handling is more important than max power. I would get the RR. I have also seen '04 RR's heavily discounted at local dealers. zx636r 03-23-2005, 12:38 AM doesent honda have that new electronic damper on it?
i have always heard that as far as handling that the gixxer was def one of the best for handling and stability? Gas Man 03-23-2005, 05:59 AM Yes, I already said that... the electronic steering stabalizer is suppose to be pimp... it sure looks cool! And yes, the suspension is suppose to be top notch! No Worries 03-24-2005, 11:44 AM The November, 2004 issue of Motorcyclist has a one page (page 146) article about the RC51. They described some hop-ups and how it was like to live with for 4K miles. Douge 03-29-2005, 07:28 AM I am considering these two bikes as well and have gotten away from the RC51 based on riding postion and engine vibration. It a great bike no doubt about it and I have always flirted with the idea of getting a V-twin but it won't be this time. I have decided to stick with an inline 4. Now it will just be between the GSXR and the CBR, I still think the CBR will be the easiest to live with, but will have to see which one I can get the best deal on. Gas Man 03-29-2005, 08:37 AM I really like the new CBR1000RR... it's a awesome looking bike. While it may not have the hp that the GSXR has... it definately has a nice stance and a lot of nice options that aren't on the other liter bikes... ie... electronic steering stabalizer! jeeps84 03-29-2005, 09:32 AM Honda has always tried to put some comfort in there bikes.
Id take the RC51! :2cents: zx636r 03-29-2005, 09:37 AM i have heard the electronic damper is not as good as an aftermarket damper liek scotts, hyperpro, ohlins??????? Gas Man 03-29-2005, 09:37 PM i have heard the electronic damper is not as good as an aftermarket damper liek scotts, hyperpro, ohlins???????
Well, I'm sure... just as the stock GSXR one isn't as good as a Ohlins similar dampner! DLIT 03-29-2005, 09:47 PM I really like the new CBR1000RR... it's a awesome looking bike. While it may not have the hp that the GSXR has... it definately has a nice stance and a lot of nice options that aren't on the other liter bikes... ie... electronic steering stabalizer!
also the hydraulic clutch Gas Man 03-29-2005, 10:33 PM You're right!!! I remember that now that you mention it!!! That is AWESOME on the inline 4!!! DLIT 03-29-2005, 11:16 PM Have you ever tried a hydro clutch? I haven't but wonder how it is. desmo900rider 03-29-2005, 11:31 PM Everyday riding, the RC will have more useable power, tourque where and when you can use it...as far as hydro clutch, I don't know that I would ever buy another bike without one if I could avoid it. Gas Man 03-29-2005, 11:52 PM Well the hydro clutches are just plain awesome... that's why almost every performence car has one.... you almost can't buy any car anymore w/o one!!! Heck the wife's Saturn that we got rid of had a hydro clutch... they are alot better and have been using them on the jap v-twins for years!
The 1000RR and the RC51 have the hydro clutches... so it's a tie on that point! Curve 03-30-2005, 12:19 PM There was a magazine I came across a few months ago about sport bikes. The RC51 outranked all the other bikes in its category on the market this year. I think the 1000 came in 6th place. :2cents: RVT1000R 04-03-2005, 11:09 PM That is a tough call. I currently have an RC51 and have had a GSXR1000. I had both for a while so I have done lots of back to back riding. The RC51 has a lot more character than the Gixxer with the distinctive Vtwin rumble and vibration. It also handles better and feels much more stable, especially on windy days. You will definitely feel more bumps in the road with the RC51 though. I am 6'3 so the riding position gets to me after a couple hours of seat time, but on trips around town, it is fine.
I see you are from A&M. I am class of 2000 and in Dallas as well. You should check out my RC51 in the for sale section. I'd be more than happy to let you check it out in person.
- Brian angry john 04-04-2005, 09:27 AM having owned and 02rc51 and having it stolen i can say there an awsome bike. saving all that money compaired to a duck. it needs a little attention to realy get things right though. the stock exhaust looks **** and sounds weak. i had sato low mounts that sounded wonderful and my friend had the bonzi high mounts and they were loud as hell. the only other must have is the fork collar installed. the factory did not put the spacers in and there is little if no adjustment stock. the best thing about the bike was stability. that thing is like a rock and will follow a line like a rail road car. turnin is slow and going threw a chicane can be tricky but the brakes are the best stock ones i have had on any bike. ride a 03 954 now but still miss the rc. :luck: :luck: :luck: Gas Man 04-04-2005, 10:59 AM Micron high mount colored can is the best!!!! Ace has one and it's the best sounding v-twin I've ever heard... no crap! bumblebee 04-04-2005, 11:47 AM How much riding in traffic during your commute? Fellow I know has one and says it gets hot in traffic, (air cooled) I like the sound though with the akrapovic pipe!! Gas Man 04-04-2005, 07:33 PM Bee...what's air cooled?? Not a RC51! jeeps84 04-05-2005, 12:58 AM The rad's are on the side.
Most twins don't like traffic. Gas Man 04-05-2005, 01:26 AM The rad's are on the side.
Most twins don't like traffic.
Yeah I know... But, Bee said something about air cooled??? angry john 04-08-2005, 10:15 AM riding an rc in trafic realy sucks. the bike is geared so high. that can be easily changed but it also roasts your legs. the heat from the engine is terable and sitting in trafic realy sucks. the seat is also hard as a rock and is good when you move around on the curves but sitting the same position for an hour or more durring a comute would realy gett on your nerves in a hurry. there is a lot i like about the rc but sitting in trafic or as a daily commuter is not one of them. on the other side commuting on a duck would not be any better, you would be more broke and sore. :2cents: Gas Man 04-08-2005, 11:59 AM The leg roasting is from the dual exhaust and the dual rads on the side of the bike... as far as the seat, get a Corbin... Ace has one and rode his RC from Michigan to the GAP last year!! CBR629 04-26-2005, 06:26 PM The 1000 hands down! aggie03 05-16-2005, 08:02 PM I think the CBR1000 is the winner since it's going to be my daily driver, sitting in it's fair share of traffic, and has less vibration. Thanks for everyone's two cents.
 KillerTiller 05-16-2005, 08:39 PM the TL1000R is still my favorite V-twin Ace 05-23-2005, 11:12 AM Rc51, I love mine, and she sounds SWEET! (so I have been told by anyone who rides behind me) Gas Man 05-23-2005, 12:12 PM Ace's RC51 with Micron Slip ons is the BEST SOUNDING V-TWIN I'VE EVER HEARD!!! Ace 05-23-2005, 02:28 PM It makes me RANDY! Pigface1 05-23-2005, 02:43 PM Neither, they're both way too uncomfortable for daily drivers. However, as far as sport bikes are concerned nothing sounds as good as a 51. txrc51fatboy 06-01-2005, 02:19 PM go with the the RC you will love it. i rode both bikes and prefered the RC. BUt you will spend more money on the RC. pipes have to be replaced first, then PCIII and a few other odds and ends but in the end you will be much happier on the RC than on something that sounds like cat sex pickle.of.doom 06-01-2005, 02:22 PM Yep. V-twins rool :) frogger 08-10-2005, 05:31 AM Between a 2005 CBR1000 and a 2005 RC51, which would you rather have as a daily driver and why? I can't decide which one I would rather have.

That's what my original plan has always been with the SV, but right now I just simply can't afford to have 2 bikes at once. 2FURYUS 08-10-2005, 05:08 PM That's what my original plan has always been with the SV, but right now I just simply can't afford to have 2 bikes at once.

That's a matter of opinion! I prefer the sound of a Duc with race exhaust. 2FASTCBR05 08-18-2005, 09:47 PM i have the 05 1000RR and i love it, not the most comfortable on the long haul but it has nice riding on the cruiseing end around town. :dthumb: :dthumb: R1up0n1 08-18-2005, 09:49 PM i have the 05 1000RR and i love it, not the most comfortable on the long haul but it has nice riding on the cruiseing end around town. :dthumb: :dthumb:
