What the hell does it mean?! I think I have an idea, but when people talk about it, it doesn't make sense. Someone please set me straight. Thanks

Thanks Captain Morgan 03-28-2005, 09:34 PM Do you know what a tankslapper is? If so, then headshake can be the start of a tank slapper. Have you ever watched a motorcycle race? Ever see them come out of a turn hard and see the front wheel shake back and forth? That's headshake. f4ilapper 03-28-2005, 09:38 PM The simple desciption head shake is when the clip-on wobble in your hands.
It can come from actual suspension difficulties at speed with a given rough surface. It can come from just holding the clip-on too tight as the front gets light during hard exceleration. You may also notice it when pulling a little wheely. :2cents: jeeps84 03-28-2005, 09:52 PM That pretty well covers it.
Any movement from the bars other than what you make them do is Head Shake.
If it gets violent than its a Tank Slapper.
I see allot from bikes touching down after a high speed wheelie. DLIT 03-28-2005, 10:02 PM That's what I thought it was. It should be called bar shake or something. In the Valley of Fire there is a long straight away with a lot of little hills. It feels like a roller coaster. I got a bunch of head shakes. My rear wheel even came up one time cuz I was leaning forward so the front won't come off. A dmrner would have came in handy then. One guy said he had his scott's maxed out and it was still shaking. I know all you guys would like this place. Oh yeah, thanks for clarifying. Gas Man 03-28-2005, 10:53 PM Yeah all that stuff!!! jeeps84 03-28-2005, 11:03 PM I know all you guys would like this place.

That's the deal! Pigface1 03-29-2005, 12:45 PM Are most of you using steering dampeners? f4ilapper 03-29-2005, 12:57 PM I have an Ohlins. It is on the lowest setting. I find that it mostly shakes when my grip is too tight. If I relax going through the same section it seems to go away.
Not recommended to put them on the highest setting. The energy that would normally cause it to shake is going to go somewhere. If it has nowhere to flex like at the head it will shake the whole bike, turn into a tank slapper and eventually work like an ejector seat. :screwy: zx636r 03-29-2005, 01:02 PM i jsut got my hyperpro rsc. and i was gonna get the ohlins but ohlins is basically for racing the hyperpro is more of a street damper, it has active dampning which means at slow speeds liek at stop signs and stuff you can turn the wheel with ease and still ahve it on a higher settign. If you want to see what a tank slapper looks like, just follow a pack of Suzukis for a while. Captain Morgan 03-29-2005, 10:48 PM My GPR came in today. I was going to put it on tonight but ended up riding all night until after Sears was closed. I need to buy a 36mm socket to remove the nut. So, I guess that project will have to wait until tomorrow.
