This is the only forum where I have to manually Refresh to get new threads or any changes. I've looked at my settings and I can't figure it out. . Anyone have the same problem? :skep:

Might be your IE settings? Is it checking for new content each time you visit a page? You might try purging your cookies (finger down throat!?).

I'm on a lot of forums and this is the only one that does that. .

This forum is a tuffy... it is also the only forum that gets all slow when the cookies get old! Like stale and stuff! Many times this is the slowest board that is on a 4.0 broadband connection... I find that if you click "new posts" that it helps a bit...

Well, there are some problems with the servers at CorvetteForum and this board is on the same servers, so that may explain some of it. I just can't figure out the whole having to refresh thing.

Well the problems have been way worse lately as they keep playing with the database and such things as the new front page...

I'm lost (not that unusual) This forum is slow sometimes but, I don't have any trouble getting fresh or new post. I use both IE and Fire Fox. It just depends on which I'm using when I log on.

Another ver version available today. It's faster than IE, tabbed and is less prone to security issues.

Avant Browser (http://www.avantbrowser.com/) Meh, that's already in FF. What's the advantage over FF? In the latter, you can choose the features you want instead of accepting the standard bloat. Does Avant work the same?

Yes all options are choosable!! I can add this... N4S use to use firfox but has sense swithced to Avant! Why? I'm all for staying with the wave, but I'm not interested in reloading my browser every time I hit a "special" website, which are the implications noted above. Basically to change there has to be some gain. My curiosity's killing me, but I don't have time to bother with my own analysis. Can someone provide the Cliff's Notes please?

I don't understand what you want.... you just download the avant browser... install it and make it your main choice for internet surfing... then click on that instead of IE!

Sorry I wasn't clear. How is Avant better than Firefox? I haven't used IE in a very long time, so that's a non-issue. Of course, it doesn't really matter, but my curiosity about Avant's advantages may someday have me find out why its superior to other open source browsers.......

I have used IE for years and have never ever had any problems with it, knock on wood. I wasn't on the crest of the open source browser wave because its hard to know what you don't have until you see it. Opening more than one browser is no longer necessary (aka tabbed browsing) and the fact that I can run other software from my browser has made me a BIG fan. For instance, I'm listening to Linkin Park on foobar 2000 all using Firefox's interface. Then there's the whole popup blocker and ad deleting functionality. My frequently visited pages are MUCH cleaner now that I've cut out most ads. I suspect these are the standard among open source browsers and Microsoft will eventually deliver a few of these features. I've had a few ideas for open source browser add-ons related to forums, just no time to make them reality.

i never get pop up adds i got Norton system works i has a pop up blocker. That's cool. And its always been my preferential antivirus solution, though I no longer have it installed (I get McAfee for free). The only bummer is its resource-hogging scanning. For those like me, having a free blocker is handy :)
