blackgtprix 04-01-2005, 03:57 PM I know many people r goin to disagree, but in my opinion anything less than 600cc is a waste of money. I started on a 600 and it wasnt too powerful. I have a lot of friends who started on 750's and it was no big deal. If your worried about dropping it just buy something a little older and cheaper. I just think if you buy something under a 600 u will be disapointed and stuck with it when you try to sell it. Remember when ur buying a bike a good thing to keep in mind is at some point ur going to sell it. So you want something that appeals to other people as well as yourself. Just thought i would share this with everyone
zx636r 04-01-2005, 04:06 PM 600 not too powerfull. ????????? hum lap times between th 1000cc class and the 600 class are a second of a difference. well what kind of experience have you ever had on a motorcycle. some ppl are going out and buying 600cc and 1000cc race bikes as thre first motorcycle ever. but i do agree with the 500cc bikes being a waste of money for me and some ppl but i know if my GF was buying a bike you better believe is is getting a 500 or less.
bulldog 04-01-2005, 04:06 PM yeah i used to agree but i bought my sv650s and if you ride it like you are racing then you cant use it to its full use on the street ..... my reason for whanting to upgrade ...which wont be for a while but hopefully within next year!......is to have a liter bike with more power to do my favorate wheelies  :dthumb: :dthumb: :dthumb: :dthumb:
bulldog 04-01-2005, 04:08 PM    boy you shouldent have posted this thread lol
zx636r 04-01-2005, 04:13 PM bull on a liter bike. lol
i bet an actuall 600cc race bike like a ninja, or gixxer or r6 would feel like a liter bike compared to ur sv.
dont you see that liter bikes are not all there cracked up to be, i mean yeah there fast but take twisty for example, didnt he just buy a new R6
bulldog 04-01-2005, 04:19 PM yeah i agree any 600 would serve me better then i need as far as performance but i just like the looks and size and everything else that comes with a liter bike my dream is the sv1000s lol the one that i forgot to metion up there lol with a good set of duel exausts!! and the 2001 orange color  i think i just messed in my drawers lol
yep it will be the sv1000s in a couple years hopefully!!!!
zx636r 04-01-2005, 04:22 PM ok a couple of years i can live with and the sv. i was thinking you wanted to get a gixxer 1k next year. lol
if you wanna do wheelies, no matter what bike you have, you have to gear it.
bulldog 04-01-2005, 04:29 PM ok a couple of years i can live with and the sv. i was thinking you wanted to get a gixxer 1k next year. lol

BlackJackel 04-02-2005, 11:23 AM I know many people r goin to disagree, but in my opinion anything less than 600cc is a waste of money.
I agree. I think some people missed that you said LESS THAN 600. Some of those Sportbike 600s are Dayyam fast! However, unless its some Superbike limited production thing, I don't think any 500cc or less bike is going to fill the need for speed or run 10s. :yaewn:
i know if my GF was buying a bike you better believe is is getting a 500 or less.
What displacement was YOUR first bike? I certainly hope you're not trying to minimize her due to her gender... :nono:
zx636r 04-02-2005, 01:20 PM no i wouldent let her get anything over a 500 casue she was never on 2 wheels
no i wouldent let her get anything over a 500 casue she was never on 2 wheels
Once again... Was your first bike over 500cc??
zx636r 04-02-2005, 01:28 PM when i was 9 i had and 80cc dirtbike lol. then my next step was an xt500 at age 12 and a yz250 at 14.
yes my 636 is my first bike.
but technically my first bike was a HUFFY. lmfao it had 2 leg HP

lol my very first bike was honda fatcat lol that 2 leged horsepower 636 was talkin about could beat it!!
yes my 636 is my first bike.
In that case, a 636 should be fine for her as well... Unless her feet don't touch the ground on one.
My first and currenty bike ever is an 04 R6 and I'm just REALLY getting used to the power in and out of turns. My strips are getting smaller and smaller. the only thing that makes me want a 1000 is the top end speed. I know top speed doesn't happen a lot but when you're at or near your top speed and a 1000 comes blastin by it makes you want one. It happened to me yesterday...my buddy just bought an 04 GSX-R 1000. He was waiting for me to take off. I dropped down to 5th and gunned it, but he was in 4th just waiting for me to gun it. he smoked my ass big time. I'm still pissed about it. When we finally got to Valley of fire I was way out in front of him and i felt a little better. We'll see what happens when he gets use to the handling though.

would you let a person learn to drive clutch in a viper or a junky old thing
gixxer127 04-04-2005, 09:27 PM my first (and current) bike is an 04' gixxer 600. I love my bike and i'm glad i didn't get anything smaller, but I think that it really depends on the rider for what they start out on. If they don't take their time and respect whatever they get, then they will have problems. I agree with Bulldog though....you should try to get a little experience on something else before you just hop on a sportbike.
jeeps84 04-04-2005, 09:55 PM My first street bike was a 1987 600R Ninja. (totaled in less than 3k)
Rode dirt as long as I can remember.
I taught my wife to ride a worn out Banshee then a 80cc dirt bike to a SVS 650 to a GSXR 600.

There's a HUGE difference between a dirtbike and a streetbike. Male-ness isn't the qualifier for who can handle the larger bike. His first bike was a 636. Why should she be any different? Sorry, gender is *NOT* a qualifier.
zx636r 04-05-2005, 09:23 AM nobody said gender was but she barley even rode a bicycle as a kid and she has never drivin anythign with a clutch. her on a 636 woudl be suicide.
Gas Man 04-05-2005, 12:19 PM Well a person should be able to drive a stick shift car first before thinking about riding a bike!

i sorta agree with this. driving a stick car gives you a good feel of how a clutch works. on the other hand i knew how to drive clutch on a bike way b4 i was even allowed to drive. adn i also never had a car that was automatic. automatic takes the fun out of everything.

As you get older you will learn to appreciate an automatic.
I just like most riders knew how to ride a motorcycle before I drove.
The clutch is one of the hardest thing to learn on any vehicle.
It should be taught on something with at least three wheels.
Some are naturals at this and wont take allot of training and others have a hard time with it. (Male or Female) :2cents:
Well a person should be able to drive a stick shift car first before thinking about riding a bike!
Or at least play Gran Tourismo in automatic mode. :)
