Hey guys, I just moved to Harrisburg PA this past weekend from Lexington, KY. I don't know anyone here yet, but I ride alot, and I will need some people to ride with. I don't have my bike here in PA yet but I will after May 15th. I left my bike behind in KY so my bud can haul my bike to Deals GAP in TN the weekend of the 13th. I have a 2000 SV650. The photo I posted is an old pic when the bike was still red, however I have a custom dark blue marble paint job on it now. I broke my digital camera and haven't replaced it yet, but as soon as I get a new camera I will update the pic. I have the full Yoshimura exhaust, stage 3 jet kit, K&N air filter, fox racing shock, solo seat cowl, bar end mirrors, frame sliders. There is just too much to list. Basically it has everything done to it. It is one of the fastest SV650's I've ever been around, and It gets alot of attention.

How about that, I'm moving to York in mid June! Just did my home inspection yesterday! I'll be a little off Carlisle road a few off of Rt. 30...if you PA guys know where I'm talking about. That's about all I know about PA, don't know anyone or anything around there beside the construction on 83 a little futher South sucks! I have to drive through it everytime I go up there from Maryland. I hope to catch up with you guys after I get settled in!

your not going to be far at all. honestly i would rather live in maryland though. And why would you rather live in MD? I've lived here 26 years and everything is soooo expensive and so congested. They are putting up house like 15 feet away from each other in every piece of land they can find. The house I just bought there cost me $175k to where one here of the same size and close layout cost $420-$440k. I own a condo here and if I didn't make this move, I'd never own a house!! I bought my condo in 2000 for $57,900. I sold it last week for $142k!! I can't even touch a house down here thats a decent size w/ a ok size yard and 2 car garage for under $350k. That's why PA looks to be a great place to go! The guy that bought it is paying like $200 less a month in mortgage than I will be and I have twice the size place w/ yard and garage. Don't get me wrong, MD has its good places and down right ghetto places, so if you can afford it, its a great place to live. I think its a bit ridiculous of the cost of living here! One thing I noticed that I wanted to know...why do regular cars and trucks have red and blue lights on them? Here in MD, you can get locked up for that! What's the tint law there too? I'm afraid I may have to take it off when I go through inspection...I have 20%

when i worked for a piano delivery company and most of our time was spent in maryland I liked i there. i guess i just assumed with a higher cost of living comes higher paying jobs. Plus we dont have any beaches it takes almost 4 hrs to get to OC.

when i worked for a piano delivery company and most of our time was spent in maryland I liked i there. i guess i just assumed with a higher cost of living comes higher paying jobs. Plus we dont have any beaches it takes almost 4 hrs to get to OC. Well like I said, it is a great place to live. And I'm sure it pays a lil' better in MD than maybe PA job wise, but as with any job, you get paid for your education and skill level on a job. It kinda balances out between your job pay and cost of living, higher paying area = high cost of living and you still have :2cents: in your account at the end of the month! And what's funny, is where I live now is almost a 3 hour drive to OC. And once you've been to OC a couple times, you'll find its really not much and pay out the ass to stay for a week. The money you drop to stay there a week, you could go on a cruise to the Caribean Islands. I'm going to miss MD in a way, but I'll be back enough for friends and family, its only an hour or so drive. It all depends on where you live in MD...you can be in the middle of no where = no jobs around and long commute, live in the city or rural areas = good mix of high and low pay jobs, or live in the city = Baltimore City = ghetto = high crime, drugs, STD's, homicides, etc... Just don't move to Baltimore, its one of the worst and dangerous cities in the US and one of the smallest for that matter. Its ok to visit the city in the harbor area or the clubs they have if you're into that or for sports stadiums. I don't want to leave, but I want a house and it won't happen around here with the cost of homes! And Roach, that does sound like a great idea, when I move up there I will only know my fiance and whoever I'll get to know at my work, so I will def. need to make a couple new friends to hang with and show me around. And if they own bikes, thats a plus because I'm fairly new to riding too. I only know how to get to my new house from MD and where I may be transfered to because its on my way to the house :)

Red lights on a regular car is a Volunteer Fire Chief. Blue lights are people who want to be chief but aren't! As far as the tint goes, I'm not sure about the law, but you can usually find an inspection station that isn't too concerned with those kind of things. Go to a custom shop and they'll be able to point you in the right direction. Mostly the police won't bother you about it unless you give them a reason.

Awesome, I'll keep that in mind about the tint! So there aren't any laws about having blue lights on your car? What are you suppose to do if someone turns them on behind you? The only cars with that stuff are cops here, its illegal.

The blue lights are firemen going to an emergency. You don't have to move for them but most people let them around if they can. It might be your house they're going to put out. The reds are chiefs and I'm not sure about the law but I always move for them. I think you'll like it here in PA. If you get some time, make a trip up to the State College area or over here where I am north or Bloomsburg. Great roads and very little traffic and cops. Really great riding.

I lived in Southern Maryland from 93 to 98, it has just exploded in population in the past ten years. The cost of living is just crazy there. I still go visit friends a few times a year, but now that I am in PA I go about every weekend now. I hate Maryland cops they are real a$$ holes. One got me for speeding 81/65. I was doing 72 going down a hill. I was going to take it to court, but the hell with it. The ticket was only $65.00 it would have been more to take a day off work, and drive to court, I would have lost more money in the long run.

BS you don't have to pull over for firemen! You move the heck out of their way!! Like Bandit said...it could be your house or your mothers house... or it could be your mom having a heart attack needing that EMT to respond ASAP!!

I got another question...I'm set for a safety course here in MD through Harley at the end of July, which is already paid for. Since I'm moving, I may try to get out of it, but I wanted to know how much the classes are there? I've been riding with and without a learners with and without people, so its time to finally be legal to ride! If its cheaper, I'll try to get my money back here so I don't have to make the ride.

It doesn't say how much on there and they're closed. I called, but no info. on cost and sounds like I may have to wait awhile to get in. I think I'll just keep my MD license, take the course I have scheduled here and then transfer everything. Is it really free???

it is funded through motorcylce registration renewals. Atleast i think thats what they said. the advance class i am not sure about though i planned on taking that this summer and havent checked into it. because it is free it does fill up fast so i would keep calling.

Well hopefully I can make it. I'm transfering up there for my work, so I don't know how the boss will be and I'll have time I'm gonna have to take off the bike classes in July. I'm hoping I can get in up there and save myself $300, that would be great. I remember seeing something about a website about that bike show. Sounds cool to go to, never been to one.
