R1up0n1 05-11-2005, 06:34 PM My friend went down today, he's ok. I feel bad for him tho. He just bought his katana last month and he has only rode maybe 5 times. He just put a jet kit, new chain, sprocket and a new paint job on it over the weekend. Today was his first day out since the paint job.
Someone told him to pull up a wheelie, and he nodded his head no. He just got his permit last month, and never really rode a bike before. I guess he decided to show off in first gear, so he romped back on the throttle in 1st gear and tried to go to second, but he didn't make it. He basically clutched up a wheelie in 1st gear. He 12 O'clocked it and flew right off that back. Check out his f'd up bike, and road rash.

Gas Man 05-11-2005, 07:53 PM Yeah that isn't any good!
What type of gear or lack of gear was he wearing?
R1up0n1 05-11-2005, 07:57 PM He just bought the joe rocket jacket, 1st time out and he ruins it, his visor on the helmet is scuffed, he was wearing jeans, , and he had the gloves in the jacket, but he wasn't wearing them.
It shows all in the linked pics.
Gas Man 05-11-2005, 08:17 PM Yeah the gear was hard to make out... I seen the jacket... didn't think he was wearing gloves due to the pics...
WHY O WHY wasn't he wearing the gloves?
I hope he get's well and get's his bike back together. Why don't you have him register here?
R1up0n1 05-11-2005, 08:21 PM :twfrox: I sent him an message when he got the bike home, and he said he was going to get some new shoes, and crutches.
The gloves.... it was just one of those excuses... its too hot.
and I told him I posted his crash on TWF, and sent him the link, I asked him to join TWF, and he said he will when he gets back tonight.
Gas Man 05-11-2005, 08:42 PM Too hot is never a excuse!
If you're that concerned about heat/cold comfort..get some different gear for different temps!
R1up0n1 05-11-2005, 08:45 PM yeah, I told him I always wear mine no matter how hot it is. I just got off the phone with him, he said his knee and arm is killin him now. I guess the adrenalin rush went away.
Gas Man 05-11-2005, 08:49 PM That always happens in any type of crash...car or bike
jeeps84 05-11-2005, 09:27 PM :sorry: to hear about the crash!
I wish him well! :luck:
Some thing you learn the hard way and expensive for him after just doing all that work. :cursin:
R1up0n1 05-11-2005, 09:30 PM he just wants to get it "rideable again" he said he will worry about the paint and fairings later. I don't think he will ride for a few days till the pain goes down
jeeps84 05-11-2005, 09:32 PM Looked like it will take a few days to put it back to gather again.
600RR Uo1 05-11-2005, 10:13 PM I'm that guy. Talk about bad luck, redo the whole thing and then wreck it 2 days later. :nonod: but on a lighter note road rash look not as bad after cleaning. But my knee is swollen and my bad wrist is starting to hurt. Lets pray nothing is broken. :angelhap:
jeeps84 05-11-2005, 10:18 PM :welcome: :twfrox:
I wish you a speedy recovery KatanaMan. :luck:
R1up0n1 05-11-2005, 10:25 PM :welcome: Katanaman, I already know ya. :twfrox:
Need4Speed 05-11-2005, 10:38 PM Welcome to TWF.. sorry about your mishap.. but ya live and learn, its all part of riding.. be careful out there and get back in the saddle soon.
Gas Man 05-12-2005, 01:37 AM :welcome: :twfrox:
I wish you a speedy recovery KatanaMan. :luck:

bumblebee 05-12-2005, 07:42 AM Are we starting to see the pattern here?? New bike, first time rider, tries to exceed riding ability, showing off, speed, twisties etc., and falls within the first 3 months?

Let's go easy on the gentleman. :) Yes, this is a common pattern, but I think he's probably learned his lesson. Fortunately, that lesson was not too bad. It could have been much worse.
KatanaMan, leather jacket and gloves are a must. Road rash would have either been severely reduced or almost none at all. There are plenty of perforated jackets out there that allow air through the jacket to cool you down. Worry about safety gear first, bike second. It's nice to have a beautiful bike, but keeping yourself safe is most important.
Heal up quickly and welcome to TWF! :welcome:
600RR Uo1 05-12-2005, 10:00 AM Yea it was pretty stupid to not where my gloves. I had them in my jacket pocket. :cursin:
But to clear things up I actually wasn't showing off. There was one peson that even saw the thing. I had been sputtering so I pulled over to check things out. Everything was fine so I figured where the jet kit had just been put on that it needed to be tweeked. I had the bike at high rpm in first listening not really giving it that much thought. Went ahead and went to switch to second and romp down. Either I didnt click hard enough up or my mind said one thing and my foot did nothing. Either way, I wasnt really ready for a wheelie since I havent ridden one yet and was seriously planning on just taking off. Took me by complete surprise. :loser:
Good news is Im still here, swelling is down in the knee (I can walk this morning, minus the hobbling from the road rash bending), and I definately know always where my gloves and NEVER clutch in first, even if by accident, lol.
BTW does anybody have any suggestions on road rash. This stuff burns. Pictures dont show it that well, but there is actually only a few red spots. Most of it didnt go deep, just that very top layer, and that stuff burns.
XtremeRacingDiva 05-12-2005, 10:21 AM Not smart getting a paint job on your first bike only a few months of having the bike... I bet it put a dent in your pocket!!
Reminds me of... myself though
I was  too!!
My first bike ever was a gixxer 600  I was..never had any bike experiance and went out there I did pretty well....Who ever says a 600 is not a good starter bike is
Although I didnt do any mods to it because I knew I was going to drop it and I had proper gear except the times I went riding in my sneakers...
Good Luck to ya :luck: :smash: :dthumb:
Pigface1 05-12-2005, 10:25 AM Damn. :nonod:
Pigface1 05-12-2005, 10:29 AM I've got about 4 jackets for all different temps. But, I'm hot natured anyway and anything above 75 really is too hot for me, mesh jacket or not. So, I just came to terms with the fact that if I ride, I'm going to sweat. Yesterday it was 87 here and it was miserable, but at least I'm covered if I go down.
Road rash. . go to the pharmacy. They've got all kinds of sprays that will help numb it, and put Neosporin on it. Make sure you take vitamins daily, that'll help more than anything with healing.
Guideon72 05-12-2005, 12:19 PM :welcome: Katanaman Sorry to hear about your troubles, I hope you're back up and riding soon!

My friend from Colorado is doing the same thing to his Katana. He just bought a 2005 750 and he can't even get going from a stand-still. But he's going to pay a guy to airbrush his entire bike. The guy doing it said that he better lay it down before cause once the paint job is done, that's it.
I laughed. I tried to take him out today to let him get experience on like starting and stopping from like lights and stop signs, he made every excuse why he shouldn't. The times we did get to a stop sign, he rolled through it. He won't stop unless he comes to his final destination.
Gas Man 05-14-2005, 09:21 PM He better watch it before he earns himself a certain title... SQUID!
Grafixx01 05-14-2005, 09:26 PM Gas Man,
I think you can already title him that. IMHO (in my honest opinion), I think that he just wants a bike cause it's like "the latest craze!" If you talked to him, you'd probably call him a SQUID when you heard his excuses for not wanting to go out on the roads to practice driving better and all. All he wants to do with his Katana is go down the highway at like 80+mph!
Gas Man 05-14-2005, 09:48 PM Well SQUIDTARD it is!!!
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. We've all done stuff that hasn't turned out so well before!
Make sure to slap lots of vitamin E cream on your grazes. The Vitamin E helps with new tissue regeneration and is excellent for repairing of scar tissue. Any of the younger ones on the board that suffer from acne can also use vitamin e on the scars from the zits. (Been there, done that). Works really well.
Also, don't ride in sneakers. That's madness. Get some decent riding boots.
Cheers.

Sime,
You a Doctor? Or are you just like V. Rossi and we'll call you "The Doctor"?
Gas Man 05-16-2005, 11:25 AM Nah, he's from down under... use your imagination!!
Nope, just a poor bastard who had really shi##y acne when I was a teen (still get some now and I'm bloody 34!!!). I tried everything you know, and found vitamin E to work really well!
You can still call me the Doctor if you like, but I ride nowhere near as well as Dr. Rossi!!!!

Hey hey now. My friend from NY works in the U.S. Embassy in Melbourne, Aussie. I wanna go there, I hear it's really nice.
Gas Man 05-16-2005, 01:20 PM Oh, I would LOVE to go there!! I'm just trying to get Sime to bust out some good down under talk on us!
Grafixx01 05-16-2005, 01:34 PM I don't even remember half the words that my friend says. Man, you'd be on the floor if you heard a NY'er talk like an Aussie. It's hysterical.
Well strewth, go grab some snags and we'll throw 'em on the barbie and have a bonza tucker time mate! But don't go aggro on me and have a barney if you don't get ya 'fill, or I'll get my yobbo mate Dazza to deck you. He's built like a brick **** house and if you're not careful, the bloke might bounce ya so hard, you might cark it!
All right, I'm gonna choof off now. Sorry for being a piker. 'Cause if the pigs see me, they'll take away my compo and put me in the joint with all the crims! Besides, I have to take stay off the beaten track 'cause I didn't pay the rego on the ute. If they catch me, I'll spit the dummy 'cause of the strife I'll be in when they give me a bluey.
Hang on, I need to drop my strides and take a slash in the dunny before I bail. Chuck us a stubbie and I'll 'ave one for the road. Only one mate, don't wanna get stonkered. Thanks mate, you're a beaut!

Sime,
Can you now please translate that to ENGLISH that the people in the United States of America will understand! Greatly appreciated.
G
Foreword: By the way, that’s a totally stupid fictitious story I concocted, but I wanted to use as many ‘typical’ Aussie slang words that I could find. That’s what I could come up with! Sorry! :sorry: :screwy:
Well, alright then, go grab some sausages and we’ll throw them on the BBQ and have an excellent meal mate. But don’t get aggressive on me and have an argument if you don’t get enough food, or I’ll get my redneck friend Darren to punch the crap out of you. He’s built like a tank, and if you’re not careful, the guy might hit you so hard that you could die!
All right, I’m going to get going now. Sorry for being a spoilsport. Because if the police see me, they’ll take away my social security (workers compensation) and put me in jail with all the criminals. Besides, I have to take the back roads because I neglected to pay my vehicle registration on the pick up truck. If they catch me, I’ll be really pissed because of the trouble I’ll be in when they give me a traffic ticket.
Hang on, I need to drop my pants and take a leak in the toilet before I get on out of here. Throw me a bottle of beer and I’ll drink it to keep me going on the way home. But I only want one mate, I don’t want to get hammered. Thanks mate, you’re the greatest!
Cheers!

Figured that much man. I just thought that it was funny and I knew that some of those words were actual words that Aussies say. I just wanted to know what it actually said. Thanks for the translation mate
No worries mate!
by the way Graffix, it's a small world. I was born in Melbourne, spent 29 years there and used to work in the same building, 3 floors up from the US Consulate in Melbourne!!!!
Going to have a cold one now! Cheers.
Gas Man 05-17-2005, 05:19 AM Sime...that was some funny crap! I'm sure if you were speaking that instead of typing it, there is no way no how we would understand anything!
