Thanks Honda Parts Counter...

So, I ordered a set of carb gaskets for my F3. $30 for the set, not in stock. Today I picked up my gasket set. That was $30 per carb!! $120 to put some stupid o-rings in my bike. Not to mention you can't buy just one o-ring (all I needed was the float bowl gaskets). Then, it gets better. The parts counter guy says "oh, we just ordered one set to make sure this is what you wanted..." :bonk: We had a 30 minute conversation about this when I ordered them!! So now I am supposed to wait another week and fight traffic again to get the parts to finish rebuilding these carbs. :wtf: Anyone know where I can get carb gasket sets for a '96 F3? I really would like an alternate source... Thanks.

Sounds to me like they didn't want to get stuck with two extras if all you needed was one.

Send an email to Zanotti Motors (http://www.zanottimotor.com), they'll beat your local Honda shop every time. If you have the part numbers, they'll give you the best deal! They literally saved me over $1,500 on the same parts priced after my accident by the local shop. You can get your part numbers here: http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/200_0296/carburetor_components_-_f3_-_95-96/carburetor_components_-_f3_-_95-96.cfm

Yeah, I'm not exaggerating either. I actually bought all the replacement parts, and the whole left side plastics along with some assorted non accident related parts and still ending up with over $1,500 in my pocket. It's the only good thing the local Honda shop has ever done for me by quoting me high replacement costs. Because of their high prices, my bike was almost totaled and it was only cosmetic damage. I told my adjuster about their inflated prices and he actually mentioned to me that I could cash out my claim, fix the bike myself and use the extra money for fixing parts that weren't damaged in the wreck. Zanotti has the best prices on parts but Ron Ayers has a little better pricing on plastics. Ron Ayers uses set shipping rates where Zanotti will charge actual shipping charges per order. For my large order it was much cheaper to buy everything from Zanotti as the overall savings/shipping was the best deal. What I usually do, is look up the part numbers on Ron Ayers or call into the local shop and order the parts through email at Zanotti. If you order from them once, they will keep your info on file for a few months so if you want to order more, you just need to send them an email with what you want and they will charge your card and ship it out to you. They are truly awesome! What people don't realize is that you can get NEW parts on-line cheaper than what I've seen people selling used stuff for on eBay. If you have a Honda or Yamaha, I highly recommend buying your parts through Zanotti.

The man does not lie. Honda shop = $ 27.50 + tax. Zanotti = $ 15.93 + shipping. Savings: 42%. Thanks for the link!!! Oh, interesting thing - the "list" on Zanotti was $ 23.75 and the Honda guy told me (when I cried uncle over $120 worth of o-rings) that he could "do better" on the $ 27.50 price when I ordered the other (3) cylinders. Dirty rats, I am done with that shop! :banghead:

That's what the Honda shop did to me. Their "list" prices were higher than everyone else's. I have two Honda shops near me and they are about the same distance apart. Clawson Honda in Fresno will charge you higher than list prices on parts, but the smaller dealer in Madera will give you a better deal. So not all shops are out to screw you. I needed a set of header gaskets quick and I didn't have time to wait to order them online. I called Clawson in Fresno hoping they would have some in stock and they said they would have to order them and it would be about a week. So I called Madera Honda shop and they had to order them as well but told me that most of their parts will be in the next day, if not then the second day for sure. I only had one day before Laguna and I wanted to get the headers on so I ordered them from the Madera shop (two bucks cheaper per gasket) and they were indeed there the next day. I put them on that night and the next day left for the races. So, it comes down to some shops wanting to keep your business and some that really don't care about ripping people off. Clawson Honda in Fresno is the biggest rip-off I've ever seen. I'm not going to go into details but I've been shafted by them one too many times. Ask me sometime about the tire installation debacle. They totally screwed me on that deal. That said, if you have a little time to wait, Zanotti will always beat the local guy's prices. I wish they sold parts for all makes of bikes as they really are a great group of people to work with. So, it's Zanotti for me and the local Madera shop for those parts I needed to have yesterday. :)
