I think it wasn't ever a good idea to put like "commercial reporters" inbeded with actual units. It should be like back in Vietnam when it was the military reporters only (until they started to let the civilians in halfway through the war). Then again, an easier way to avoid all these "scandals" with the military is for the United States to worry about the problems WITHIN our own country. Like um, poverty, hungry people, jobless people, etc.... :2cents:

The assumption that anyone joining the military is supporting a conflict is just ignorant. Now take a breath and realize I did not call anyone here ignorant. Just clearing up a comment and defusing my own temper. For those of us in the military, have familiy or friends in the military, it is difficult to listen to those with a narrow view bash the military for doing what keeps this country a great place to live. Remember, those troops volunteered to do a job most of you would not. They are currently in the worst living conditions you could imagine. Talking to someone in Camp Cuervo while they receive incoming mortar rounds is gut wrenching. The crimes against humanity in Iraq were going to rival those of Hitler. They uncover mass graves continously but all we seem to get on TV are bad P.R. stories. Thank you Newsweek! If left unchecked these tribes in Iraq and the surrounding countries are capable of genocide on a scale that would make what happened in south Africa pale in comparison. If you think about it those terms, "keeping the peace" is exactly what they are doing. Enough soapboxing here. :bthorse: On a side bar, anyone know how to service an iPod that was, ahem, damaged in Iraq? His HummVee ran over an IED, blew out 3 of 4 tires, they returned fire and hauled bootay back to camp. The iPod was the only casualty. Where was I going with this post? :whistle:

These people are soldiers trained to fight, and not trained to understand the goings on of political relationships in the world. It's not a popularity contest.
