Real Life on MTVShanMan14 08-20-2004, 02:41 PM Last night (8/19) they did a spot on stunt riderd, did anyone catch it? Need4Speed 08-20-2004, 03:13 PM nah..I missed it, damn!!! GSXR1000DJ 08-20-2004, 06:15 PM No I missed it 2. How was it. Did it have some good stuff in it? Big Kahuna 08-20-2004, 08:10 PM Yeah I saw it. I taped it too so I can watch those idiots over and over again. I call them idiots because anyone who would be willing to trade their stake in a one million dollar business for trying to make it as a stunter is just plain stupid. He even lost a finger while stunting after he decided to leave he's father's company and try to make it as a biker-stunt-guy. It sounded like the prize money for the best trick he was trying so hard to win was only $800.00.
Another moron boasted about how he left his family so he could follow his dreams of being a stunter. The guy was a real know it all jerk and totally stuck on himself and the non sport of stuning.
The best part was when one group was trying to get corporate sponsorship and they commented on how most people tell them, "What sponsorship? you guys don't even have a sport? Where's the money in motorcycle tricks?"
True, boo... True! ShanMan14 08-20-2004, 08:40 PM He even lost a finger while stunting after he decided to leave he's father's company and try to make it as a biker-stunt-guy. It sounded like the prize money for the best trick he was trying so hard to win was only $800.00.
That made me cringe, he lost in between the chain and sprocket. :(
Those particular stunters were lame, I'll give you that. The trailer trash of stunters, if you will. :smilelol: Need4Speed 08-20-2004, 09:23 PM what the hell is the point of that..if you've got a stake in a million-dollar business, then you should be able to afford some time to learn how to stunt properly.
so he lost it in the chain/sprocket ?? ouch !!! how did it happen ? Aaron 08-21-2004, 07:29 AM nope, missed it too. Anyway you can put the video on the web for us? GSXR1000DJ 08-21-2004, 12:06 PM nope, missed it too. Anyway you can put the video on the web for us?
Yeah. That would be great if someone has it to do so. :D Dactyl 08-21-2004, 12:32 PM I have it saved on my computer but I dont know how to put it on here....hold on I will try.... kayaker 08-21-2004, 12:35 PM I saw most of it when it was on. For those that missed it, don't worry. I'm sure in true MTV fashion it will be aired at least six more times in the next 5 days. One good thing about MTV, you miss it the first time wait a day or two and it will be on again. GSXR1000DJ 08-21-2004, 12:55 PM I have it saved on my computer but I dont know how to put it on here....hold on I will try....
Can you send it to me in email?? :) Gas Man 08-21-2004, 03:32 PM Can you send it to me in email?? :)
:hi: Me too!!!
SHAN, can't you help on this? Is there someplace he can post it?? Need4Speed 08-21-2004, 04:05 PM if its a large movie file, its gonna be hard to send it thru alot of mail servers, without getting errors...hopefully Shan can put it up here on TWF.. jdog 08-21-2004, 05:05 PM I caught the rerun of it. I agree that they are the "joey heads" of the stunting world. The guys who where trying to get the sponsors and got into a fight about it, they were such tools. But as the show is REAL LIFE, take alot of different nuts and bolts to make a Bike. ShanMan14 08-21-2004, 05:40 PM :hi: Me too!!!

Thanks for the link. :D   ShanMan14 08-22-2004, 05:41 PM Awesome, thanks! GSXR1000DJ 08-22-2004, 08:04 PM OK So I just got done watching it. The teams were funny bitching all the time. Triple Xtreme seemed pretty good till they split. That guy Tony D was one little cocky tard. His team won the team comp. I guess thats good and all. Team Purebred Riders. What was up with that team? O well.
I think I am going to have toagree with Big Kahuna when he said they were all a bunch of idiots. Yep. twisty 08-23-2004, 07:50 PM It informed me that some people arnt to bright, and also some things should not get cought in you chain. Over all it was amusing. All those guys thought it was a get rich quick thing and then reality hit them so they went back to work for their dad. :iagree: :thanx: Aaron 08-25-2004, 04:56 AM Its 66.1 mb.....let me see if I can copy the link from somewhere else......
thanks. downloading now :) :thanx: AKA 08-26-2004, 01:32 AM these guys are mostly dicks twisty 08-26-2004, 05:45 AM I love how they think that companies are just going to throw cash out to help a "Far from mainstream" sport. Bike makers don’t want to have anything do with this, because they know that this is going to cause laws to be passed that affect their sales. The only real company that promotes this kind of sport "If we can even call it that" is Icon. Which has buys the crapyest leather and sells it for a 200% mark up. Sponsors don’t want there name on a banged up, droped, and over all trashed bike. People try to compare stunting to MX freestyle and Drifting (a car thing) MX Freestyle took off because that is what Dirt bikes where built for. Sport bikes where not designed for wheelies but yeah their fun to do, but it is not talent that we are seeing. It is regearing you bike and hitting gas. Wow! I do give the starboys credit however….All their stunts are done on stock gearing.
Downhill offroad skating will go further than this so called sport. :ghey: Big Kahuna 08-26-2004, 12:12 PM The only real company that promotes this kind of sport "If we can even call it that" is Icon. Which has buys the crapyest leather and sells it for a 200% mark up.How do they promote stunting? I think Icon products are very nice and I own quite a few of their products. Very well made indeed as I put a lot of miles on my gear and the Icon stuff last longer than most others. twisty 08-26-2004, 01:07 PM I'm glad they work well for you and have you ever seen their adds? All stunting stuff. WarpedRotor 08-26-2004, 01:12 PM For starters, I think the stunt riders I have seen over the years at events were fairly cool. Gary Rothwell, Team Extreme, blah blah blah, were at road racing events and put on a great show. The stuff these morons (not biased, really!) were doing for MTV was lame at best.
Kahuna hit it right on the nose with his post.
Honestly, are any of the internet videos worth watching unless they wreck? Similar to watching NASCAR... (I just opened a can of worms)
Warped Big Kahuna 08-26-2004, 01:23 PM So how do their adds speak of their quality? I've seen a few of their adds that show guys doing burnouts, wheelies and such, but why does it make any difference? I see all kinds of other company's adds showing wheelies and such, but no one seems to complain about that?
Hmmmmm, on occasion, I have done burnouts, popped the front wheel up and many more things you may call unsavory, so does that make me a stunter? I don't think so.
Icon makes products for the street and not for the track so why shouldn't they show street riders doing what they do. It's the nature of the beast! I think it's always cool to see a guy up on one wheel, doing a burnout and such, but hey, I guess that's just me.
Personally, I don't judge a company on the way they promote their products, I judge them on how their products work for me on the street. Icon products work great on the street. Need4Speed 08-26-2004, 03:32 PM Not to interrupt this good debate between Kahuna & Twisty..but my .02 is that going to see Star Boyz or a similar group of professionals who do it for a living, and do it also to entertain others, and well as teach others, isnt such a bad thing, IMO. The jerks on the road during rush hour pulling stunts out of their a$$, causing traffic jams, and just generally being a nuisance is what gives this sport (stunting) such a bad rep, IMO.
If you're gonna do it (total, balls out stunting) , do it in a controlled, safe environment, where you dont endanger others.
Now thats not to say I dont like to see a burnout or wheelie by someone as Im riding past them, its cool to watch, and I like watching the shows of stunters as well, to some degree. I dont call doing a wheelie or a burnout or stoppie, on occasion, being a stunter, I just call it having fun. I personally dont do it much, as I value my bike, myself, and I dont have the proper training either..but if I the chance to learn from professionals, I'd consider giving it a shot.
Ok..grabbing the popcorn now.. :) Big Kahuna 08-26-2004, 03:40 PM I agree 100% with you N4S750. AKA 08-26-2004, 07:33 PM If you're gonna do it (total, balls out stunting) , do it in a controlled, safe environment, where you dont endanger others.
I've gotta agree, the guys who were doing it on the road can die for all I care.
I loved the bit where some guy said the cops are same guys who lolve to watch them at an event but then bust them on the street.
DAMN STRAIGHT, it's not that they are picking on you, it's that you are doing something illegal and stupid.
I really apprecciated the guys who found places they could block off to do their practice.
It's not the best option, but it's the same as when I was a skater making the most of places after hours, you know no one but yourself will get hurt twisty 08-27-2004, 07:59 AM Just fall once in your KOOL Icon jacket and tell me how it turns out. I dont wish falling on anyone, but you know "If it happens" I seen them 1st hand. Nothing but sredded cheep leather. People who do these so called STUNTS are the reason Insurance is so high. The reason squids on there 1st bike are getting them self killed. "I want to be cool like that guy" kinda of attitude. Iam very bias against stunters, because Iam racer. From most racers that I hang out with stunting takes no talent. It is so EZ to pop the cluch and ride a wheelie, I was doing it @ 6 on my JR 50. I agree its fun, but for them to say "Im a great rider because I can do a wheelie" is retarded. The need to come out to a "Real" track and watch real racers. Now that is talent. BLAH BLAH. Nascar sucks!!!! Hillbilly's diving in one direction. Big Kahuna 08-27-2004, 09:37 AM I have no doubt that my Icon gear will protect me on the street. I have already had the displeasure of crash testing their Super Duty Boots and a pair of their Barrier gloves. The boots ended up between my bike and the side of a mini van and although they are a little scuffed up, they protect my feet and I received no feet or ankle injuries. My gloves didn't even get a scratch.
Again, Icon makes products for the street not the track. If I was a "racer" I'm sure I would be wearing more race oriented track gear. But as I just ride on the street, I feel that Icon gear is the best bang for the buck. I don't know why all the "racer" types out there seem to have such a problem with Icon. I've been using their products for nearly two years now and I have no complaints as to their quality.
Oh, and one more thing. If you believe insurance rates are directly effected by people who stunt their bikes, then you very disillusioned. To that I say proof it. Specifically, stunters don't claim anything on their insurance like the rest of us do. Please, have you seen their bikes? they don't care how they look, the more beat up the better.
And still, one more thing. To say that you have more true "talent" because you race on the track is just plain silly. You can't deny that those stunters have talent, it's just not what you would call talent as you are bent on proving yourself on the track. Judging from all the track related accidents I've heard on the forums lately, I would say that there isn't too much "talent" out there either. GSXR1000DJ 08-27-2004, 10:31 AM WOW!!
I just like to ride and have fun. But hey, thats just me. LOL :D | |
