What Bull says might work but be carefull. Being that you're a newbie I would suggest you stay away from wheelies...
SpeedWerks.com 06-17-2005, 11:09 AM Put a 60 tooth sprocket on the back.
Oh, and fur. All the bikes I see doing wheelies seem to have fur on them, so it must help :D

JK_DILLA 06-17-2005, 11:13 AM Id be wary of getting a katana up, its heavy on the ground and feels even heavier up.
Gas Man 06-17-2005, 11:13 AM And a drop 2 in the front wouldn't hurt!

onewheel 08-30-2005, 10:32 AM sometimes the truth hurts and i think for you this will be one of those times. see the katana uses the old gsx engine which is air cooled and heavy as hell and the frame isnt the lightest either. basically the front end is weighed down so it will take alot to get it up and keeping it up once you get it there is going to be damn near impossible. trust me i know from experience my buddy had an 02 and i tried to get it up for him and i couldnt do it. it was all stock though so you could possibly hunt down a 74 tooth sprocket or smaller depending on how bad you want to get it up but the higher the teeth you go the more you lose on top end speed wise that is. my best advice is practice other things on the katana like high chairs and stoppies and other tricks that doesnt demand so much from an engine thats over powered by weight. the gixxer is an excellent choice. ive ridden plenty of them and ive never had any problem raising the front tire whether it be a 600 to 1000. i make it a point to wheelie any of my friends bikes if theyll let me. bad habit i guess but ive been doing it a long time and how can i refuse they want to know how to wheelie theres like i wheelie mine and the only way i can give them an honest answer is if i try it on their bike needless to say theyre beginners take advice from people whove been doing it a while theyll help you learn without killing yourself and trashing your bike thats how i got as good as i am. by the way nice bike probably one of the nicest katanas ive seen but youll definitely enjoy the gixxer more when you decide to get one. theres another suzuki out there if you looking for a good bike to do tricks on to though the sv650s or 1000s more affordable too :luck:
jeeps84 08-30-2005, 10:45 AM :welcome: Snag and onewheel :twfrox:
If your even still around. That's a nice looking Kat. Best bet is to just keep the front down on that bike to save clutch, chain, sprockets and tire. It will do more damage that its worth.

That is all good advise,
If your going to do "clutch up" wheelies. I always suggest finding an incline Your less likely to flip and you dont have the sensation of having the front end so high up. But you do get the feel of the balance point. And know where your back brake is. Bailing off will get you no where.
That is a great looking Kat, Congrats on the new ride. Are you sure you want to wheelie it right away. Novice wheelies put so much wear and tear on frontends, Chains, sprockets, clutches. and more times than you think tail sections ars'es and pantjobs. My advice is practice on a freinds bike and do great ones on yours. :dthumb:
As far as the back sprocket goes, could one go down a tooth or two in the front? Each front tooth down is equal to 4 teeth up in the rear. Its easier to do and usually dont require the chain being shortend or lengthend.

I just noticed I am giving advice to a one off poster.
Oh well Hope the tips we provide help someone else. Or Snag if he's lurking.
Who knows maybe the bike is already toasted. :yikes:
I hope not.
To all who are new to riding and want to wheelie. Learn first to ride safe and smart. Once you do this the wheelie wont cross your mind so often. :2cents:

Chuckademus 08-31-2005, 01:18 AM I had an '88 GSXR1100J, The beautiful black and gold one. I went to the local bike shop to get new chain and sprockets, as the old ones were on the way out. I probably should've rang first, but when I got there, I was told " we've got the chain, and a standard front sprocket, but we have'nt got a standard rear. It'll take a few days to get one in, or you could just buy this aftermarket one, 2 teeth larger! :dthumb:
keeping the front wheel on the ground became optional after that!!
Chuck

dude no lie my old 2000 katana. i had to pull heavy clutch wheelies. but honest when u get that thing up its heavy'r in the air as it is on the ground. plus its hard to keep up. but throw u a huge sprocket on that beast and have fun! hehe
Earlzach 08-31-2005, 08:43 PM Who are we still helping?
lol thanks guys i figure I'll just keep it on the ground for now. I already want a gsxr but i'm still paying off my kat so my next bike will be a gsxr i think right now i'm just looking for people to ride with it sucks riding alone.
Can I atleast burn this kat out, hold down the front brake and just let loose on the throttle right?

R1up0n1 09-11-2005, 11:34 PM I haven't got the balls to do a wheelie on the rear pegs yet...that's next on the list..well after I get a new bike and get comfy on it.

marko138 09-12-2005, 06:51 AM Snag... :welcome: ...it seems to me that maybe you need to concentrate on 'riding' this bike before you are trying to get airborn or doing vicious burnouts. Learn to operate your controls before you try to exploit them.
I'm afraid your going to get into more trouble than you know how to safely get out of if you try these tricks.
fishman 09-12-2005, 07:46 AM coming from a former 2004 katanna owner I always just double cluthed it when the powerband was high and up it will come.
