Earlzach 06-21-2005, 11:30 AM In the eyes of my co-posters and potential one day riding buddies here at TWF, How much gear should I put on to run out to the store? I certainly wouldnt want a guy who says he rides alot to get in his jeep and get behind my as I go out for bread or something and just cruise along with my D. McNabb jersey on and come home and read I'm squid of the day. Should I be draggind my knee as soon as I pull it out of the garage? or is waiting for things to warm up a bit ok? When rapping the throttle and doing small pops of the front wheel and not setting it through the window of the car in front me just feels like an un-squidly thing to do, never been real sure about that.
(dunno). I would just like to know from the very best what is needed to avoid being a "squid" if noticed by a TWF member on my 1000cc FZ1 with summer gloves and a helmet on a short commute? Please inlighten me before I go on looking a fool to every biker I dont recognize spying from a Jeep.
No pun intended, just seems if you dont look like Mitch bostrom ready for Daytona every time you back out of your garage your at risk of being "Posted" against here at TWF and wandering if this is the site you wish to be involved in.
Is your FZ1 really a 1000RR??? LMAO. That was you wasn't it!
It was not necessarily what the guy was wearing making him squid of the day. More how the retard was riding.
And its not "spying" from a Jeep, yet more being aware and avoiding the retard from colliding with myself or another vehicle.
Wear what ya want on the bike, thats not where the squid of the day was awarded. It was awarded purely off lack of riding skills/ knowledge and being completely stupid with a bunch of traffic around.
No pun intended, but if your retarded is it really safe to be riding a liter bike, or any bike for that matter???
Earlzach 06-21-2005, 11:45 AM As A "biker" yourself why would you stay with him at the risk of him going down and your in a jeep? I give all riders room to make dissions when Im in my Ram 4x4. I know as a rider I dont like to be crowded from behind so I give a lot room to riders, all of them.
This site puts a lot of emphasis on racing skills and not the joy of riding and sharing tips and tricks.

I disagree...we talk at length at the joy of motorcycling...we just want you to understand that riding is more enjoyable on the bike than in the wheelchair at the ER...wear your gear...
fatburg 06-21-2005, 12:42 PM I might wear jean instead of my riding pants if I'm just running a couple miles up to the store. But other than that I wear my gear. For the most part I don't think people care if you are out for a quick little ride or an all day adventure, they'll still pull right out in front of you.
Guideon72 06-21-2005, 01:12 PM The thing is, you don't need to wear full racing leathers everywhere you go. Buy a comfortable pair of textile riding pants and jacket for commuting/fun. If you're gonna wring the $#@t outta your bike, THEN wear the leathers. Riding is inherently risky and when you go down, you will go down in whatever you habitually wear when you get on the bike.
And yes, we make fun of people we feel are inferior because it makes us feel better about ourselves

Well I guess you win the "Driving Miss Daisey" award for the day, since your that much better of a driver than the rest of us. LMAO BUt anyways, I give all cycles plenty of room. However when I am in traffic with cars all around me and the retard was riding in and out of cars what am I supposed to do "Mr. Drivers Ed"? Just stop my car in the middle of the road? LOL Sorry, it had NOTHING to do with the way I was driving or any other car around me and him. It was totally him driving stupid and squidly. But perhaps you can relate to that? :flush:
Earlzach 06-21-2005, 02:10 PM However when I am in traffic with cars all around me and the retard was riding in and out of cars what am I supposed to do "Mr. Drivers Ed"
You followed in a jeep? You see my point is your story is BS, you didnt follow a bike and witness all you said you did. As a biker, I out run every car around without trying. it is the nature of a bike over a car in traffic. You don't have to speed to accomplish that. And you swerved with him in a jeep, give me a break. I know you didnt say that, but Im supposed to believe he, on a bike road this way for 5 miles and you were right there with him in a jeep to witness this. lMao. I think you make up squid stories. Like many other posts here "that thread is worthless without Video"
Who cares what other people think. If you want to wear a t-shirt...do it. Just don't do it while you're freekin pushin it through bends and shiit. There was some guys this weekend that did that. yes, they were with us. I was in front and they were behind me going just as fast. They're crazy! We did rag on 'em hard too. One of 'em had a t-shirt w/ a back protector and that's it.
lets see...TRAFFIC, LIGHTS.....5 MILES...TRAFFIC, LIGHTS....the ability to see more then 5 feet in front of you...........means you CAN OBSERVE A SQUID FOR A PERIOD OF TIME IN YOUR CAGE WITHOUT BEING ON HIS BUTT.
Problem here is I think Ace hit a nerve and you ride like this squidtard and you're trying to save face.
As for what to wear and what not to wear...you be the judge but your "short commute" excuse sucks......you can have an incident leaving your driveway. Go outside right now in shorts and a T-shirt....start running as fast as you can.......won't be doing more then 15mph....now have someone trip you on the cement....and then come back on here and tell me it didn't hurt. If you do that, then I'll agree with your "commute" comment.

i dont think this site talks about racing skills at all...we dont talk about braking markers, exit points of a turn or any other racing things...some people go to track days and i dont see any of them really asking for help in here too much and when they do its in the track thread......
i do see a lot of people putting a lot of emphasis on wearing riding gear and then talking about flying around the gap or doing 150mph on the street and that just makes me giggle cause all the gear in the world isnt going to help much when you smack into a tree or a car on the street....but thats another case i guess
if im going down the street or to the store, then ill most of the time wear long pants , t-shirt and gloves...If i know im gonna go tear into some rotaries or exit ramps then ill wear my leathers.. being older and racing for many years i sort of learned the hard way to know when to go fast and when to just cruise around....most of the time i can control myself ...most of the time

EarlZach, let me begin by stating your a ****ING idiot! LMAO Your lack of intelligence, or shall I say over abundance in autism has me baffeled, it really does. Apparently you have no clue, or a total different picture of what I whitnessed. Not sure why I am even wasting my time on such a freekin tard, but I have a spare minute. First off I was not on a highway doing top speeds. It was a road with considerable traffic with speed limit of 45mph. The "Squid" I am speaking of was swerving in his own lane and really could not go anywhere due to traffic, it was only a 2 lane road. Never did I say he was haulin ass (top speeds) weaving in and out of cars. He was just riding stupid for the amount of cars in the 2 lanes. Doing many things proving he was an inexperienced rider. But then again its all BS I made up right ass munch! Well hopefully you get a chance to read this thread before our Mod friends lock it or whipe it clean. Also let me know which of these 2 pictures more represents you, or is it a combination of both? :flush:

Earlzach 06-21-2005, 03:04 PM So let me get this straight.
You have to only be able to point out who is a squid rather than who may not be. Look, I didn’t start this to go this far. And from the looks of this web sight it is "one club rules". I can respect that. I feel I probly am part of the majority of "squids" as so described far too often on this site. I don’t have a $700.00 helmet full leathers to walk out my front door in, only to get ran over at 15mph. I am just one of those guys that enjoys talking bikes, Trucks and any other motor sports. I live by a different value. I do respect the road. I do wear at least Jeans. Always an ankle high boot or higher, Gloves and always without fail a helmet. In the evening I wear a jacket when it is brisk out. I would like to have a better jacket. I have even gone as far as inquiring about one. But Imp not any different then most when I don’t put one on that says Joe rocket or Aria or whatnot. I am just a rider, Squid maybe? But only in the eyes of several of you conformist guys here. Didn’t mean to get any dander up, or bust a bubble to a perfectly worthless post. Next time I see a "squid" post I will just move on and keep my thoughts to myself
Nice spelling in that post too scholar. Must be a dozen errors. And yeah, your "location" under your avatar......................sweet bro. You rock. You've got cool written all over you. Nice attack on WOS for no reason too. You talk a big game on the keyboard like most fools like yourself. Not even worth my effort. Go have fun in your momma's room or whoever's momma's room you think you can get into. I'm sure you not only think you're a God on the bike but probably with the ladies too. You rock, I'd love to ride with you someday. Currently putting it at the top of my list of things to do before I ride.......ride with Earlzach.
Earlzach 06-21-2005, 03:13 PM Chev I edited that post to avoid being offensive to others including yourself. I am sorry for that. I am not that disrespectfull of a man. As far as spelling and grammer. Oh well. In one of my earlier post when I joined I made it clear I dont type well.
So let me get this straight.

Nice attempt, or "typo" at bashing WOS. It has nothing to do with WOS and not sure why you seem to think WOS rules the roost. Thats not the case at all. Just several of our members around here participating.
For whatever reason you seemed to get very sensitive thinking the Squid of the Day award went to the guy for what he was wearing. Yet your wrong. I stated what he was wearing to paint a more vivid image. The whole idea was the guy was obviously an inexperienced rider and proved that by the way he was wreckless in and amongst traffic. Bottom line. It has nothing to do with not wearing a $700 helmet, or a J.R., or Alpinestar jacket or leathers. I ride with my textile and leather jacket and jeans all the time in and around town. Even on some weekend rides. I do not own full leathers, and on Gap trips someone generously lets be borrow their stuff in order to provide me with proper protection when we are riding harder. The Squid award was given purely by the way the tard was handeling a bike in which he obviously cannot handle. A liter bike is not a good first bike, regardless who you are. If you have never rode, and purchase a gixxer 1000 as your first bike to learn on, do I think your a squid? No, but I do think your a moron then. I'm done explaining logic to monkeys, so this is better off :flush:
bumblebee 06-21-2005, 03:15 PM Did anyone watch the pro-stock bike NHRA races from Englishtown this weekend?? One of the riders bailed at 100 + when his bike veered into the wall. He hit the pavement and Rolled and rolled...he broke a bone in his foot and hand from slapping the pavement during the rolling, unavoidable, but minimal injury considering he was otherwise unharmed...made me a believer...

Well, you don't sound squidly to me here from this post. I think (at least in my opinion) its more those that jump on in shorts & a tank top or just not long pants, and then go out and act stupid. If your just putzin or cruisin as long as you have a lid, gloves & pants on then that is good. Going to hit a few twisties & push it a little than throw on something a little more durable - I have heard of people riding hard in just jeans and the jeans litteraly disintegrated on impact. As far as jacket, its rider choice IMO too but I have also seen a chick with rash up both arms she got from years ago that will be with her for life. So, just personal comfort and safety level. Squid is really most clearly defined to me as those riders who are out there doign stupid things and riding way beyond their rider abilities - which inturn gives all riders a negative image. Just my :2cents:
jeeps84 06-21-2005, 03:21 PM Just for the record, I am guilty of ridding with minimum gear. (helmet, long pant/shorts, T shirt, gloves, and tannins shoes) for those short rides to the store or maybe even longer. It is very unlikely you will catch me breaking any laws while ridding with this apparel.
Now,
most days I ride for the thrill of it and there fore ware all my gear. How much thrill I expect to have for the day depends on what gear I ware (leather or textile).
Call it what you will.
I have been down because a cage pulled out in front of me at low speed with little gear on. It sucks :cursin: It would not have been as bad if I had the gear on.
I always recommend to wear every piece of gear you can but for the most part I use my own judgment for the trip.
:luck: to all in your decisions for the gear of choice for the day.
Just remember the less gear you have on, the more it will suck if you or somebody else causes a down.
pickle.of.doom 06-21-2005, 03:33 PM Earl, I think you are missing the point. We all run up to the store or around the block without our full gear. We all **** around poppin wheelies and ****. We all have fun while we ride. The difference between us (which i'm sure you are part of us) and the major calamari's is the places we choose to do such activities.
For example... everyday rider sees a nice open stretch of road and screams down it on one wheel. Rider is probably at least wearing boots and pants and gloves.
Now mr squid tries the same scream down the road , only he does it right at a main intersection, in massive traffic, probably wearing shorts, flip-flops, and shirtless.
I think you are taking the squid remarks a little too serious. It's ribbing amongst motorcyclists and laughing at others, not condemning them to a life of agony or somethin :)
Gas Man 06-21-2005, 04:30 PM I'm with ya POD!
I would like to say watch the generalzations towards clubs. I have nothing to do with the last 1.5 pages of posts yet, I'm part of a "one club" whatever he said.
Second, even if it's down to the store. I at least wear. Desent shoes/boots, helmet, gloves, and my mesh jacket. I don't care how far you're going. Always be prepared for the bad! When I laid my bike down last year, I was just cruising down a road going to the h/w when the deer jumped out in front of me... I was in full leathers, but if I hadn't been I would have been messed up. Any wildlife, person, car, or whatever can do anything that will cause you to go down. So at least wear some gear. But that's just my :2cents:
Jack, I understand your POV on the gear vs insane speeds on streets. I am just as guilty of it as the next guy. I have the same problems in my head when I think of it. But then the heat is on and I find myself doing it. I have contiplated many times about not riding a sportbike on the street anymore. Getting a touring style bike for the street and use the 9R at the track or somin... but I don't have the cash for it so I just get by...
The bottom line here is... use some common sense and some safety sense. Try to be as prepared for the "what if" without ruining your fun!
GsxrJack 06-21-2005, 06:40 PM Wait a minute......isnt that a pic in your sig line of doing a wheelie with no helmet on??? That gives me a giggle
and dont forget in shorts too miss pipi :disapp: :yikes:
but getting back to the giggles, ive seen 2 people die in person right in front of me on bikes, one was a friend on our way to montreal and he was in full leathers, another was a fellow racer at loudon,,,,both wearing all the gear....im by no means telling people not to wear gear, just saying dont think your invincable just because you have full leathers, helmet etc on and drive like a maniac...thats all.....
Gas Man 06-21-2005, 10:08 PM No, you're right the leathers are there more for your skin than anything else. Now the helmet is there to protect the head contents...

Pod, in all due respect, Your respected comment that you posted in regards to what you wear and how you ride is what makes a squid then you certainly support what started all of this. The thread I started (this one) is about that exactly. You directly say that this don’t Make a "squid" out of someone. But yet a squid of the day award went out in a post about someone who could tell a guy should not have been on a 1000rr in jeans and Sport jersey doing 45 in traffic and swerving from left to right like he could not handle his machine. I am guilty of that too. If I had to follow traffic for five miles at 45 I too would be swerving and being Raspy with the gas a little” only to pop the front up some" My god, how friggin far was this guy supposed to ride a good wheelie in this kind of traffic. However he was deemed Squid of the day. That is until I asked what makes you a squid. I just didn’t buy it. Heck That thread only got TWO responces, unfortuanatly one was mine. I had no intentions to offend an entire bike club, WOS I am sorry for using your Call letters as a dig to this member that got keyboard tough with me. It did not give the correct thought to my sentence when I typed it. It was edited and I stated why I edited it. I'm not a coward by any means! I don’t find it necessary to riddle this site with profanity towards others even in anger. I don’t deal with stuff like that. Chev, as far as you putting me at the top of your list to ride with before you ride? I think I know what you meant but you were too busy checking my spelling and grammar you should have been frying up your crow. No pun intended but please, All of the "I'll bet your cool" and crap like that, C'mon We dont even know each other and if we were face to face when all of this started even from the original "squid of the day" post that was put up by Ace that got me questioning "How to be a squid" We would be laughing it off. But instead Ace became a spade and took offence to my not caring for his impression of a squid rider From his Jeep. You either ride or you dont. I am in DE all of the time " no Helmet law" I could post daily about this squid and that squid. But the truth is they are just commuting. I wear my helmet all the time, that is never an issue with me. At least the guy Ace claimed had Gloves a helmet pants and a t shirt., @ 45 mph for a short hop, something we all do. That is where I had to know, Am I a squid amongst my fellow posters who I thought I one day may ride with? Or should I move on to a site where peeps are actually out to make a friend without the risk of being underqualified to join in reindeer games. It is hard to type emotion, I certainly did not mean to stir things up, Or most of all pizz off the 6 or 7 people that view this site. I wasnt even trying to get Ace stirred up but I did. To all of those offended buy my asking Sorry.
Anyone wish to reserve thier anger or feelings toward me, well that is your choise also. Didnt meen to make this so long.
never would have attacked you if it wasn't for the obvious attack on WOS. As for what's a squid and what isn't.....everyone is entitled to an opinion. You are, Ace is, and guess what, they just may be different and if they are, then debate it and leave it at that. Ace is very outspoken around here. Everyone is. If you take offense to everything that is said around here because it might be something you do......you ain't gonna like being here.
He told us all what he saw but keep one thing in mind...he was talking about the guys behavior on the bike and how he was acting like a fool.....not so much what he was wearing. He was just trying to "paint a picture".

As I said I regreted Useing the Call letters. I did edit it quick because of the feeling of others were not meant or designed to be harmed, I dont play that way. I am starting to get the picture to the original thread. Ace is no picaso in painting an image I have only seen for years. I have seen bikers ride this way every where I have ever been in traffic. Not going to drag this one out. Just want you and the Others Of WOS to know I did think before I typed and retracted it in respect of your club. There was not any attempt to deface or vandlize your Call letters or reputation. And as far as spelling and typing. I do suck. That has never been a secret with me. I'll be the first to admit that. I hope we can move on from this. Maybe if Ace wasnt so quick to go straight to name calling and profanity him and I would have been over it long ago also.
I'm done with this one. Enough said on all fronts (in my opinion). Lets move on now...nothing to see here...move along.

Your right, I am not Picaso. But when trying to paint a picture for a mental midget I had to work with what I had. Before I end this one realize it was how the guy rode, not what he wore! So yes, if you ride this way at that speed in traffic then Squid you are! Just a matter of time before stupidity or an unalert driver who does not ride, take you out. Then we wont have to worry about anotehr Squid endangering people on the road. :luck: and good day! And people wonder why I go on month long benders. LMAO Whos joining me? Chev?

So yes, if you ride this way at that speed in traffic then Squid you are! Just a matter of time before stupidity or an unalert driver who does not ride, take you out. Then we wont have to worry about anotehr Squid endangering people on the road. :luck: and good day! And people wonder why I go on month long benders. LMAO Whos joining me? Chev?
Bender starts Friday night....you better be there.
Gas Man 06-22-2005, 03:15 PM I'm cool with that,
You're still down in my book! :dthumb:
The idea of using WOS is a common mistake by alot of people here. Just cause there is alot of us here and we all have WOS in our sig. But let's all make a choice to take what people say as what they are saying and not what a club is saying. WOS or any other club can't control EVERYTHING that is said.
With all of that in mind... everything is once again cool.
Keep on riding and for god's sake...wear your gear! That goes for everybody regardless of bike, distance, laws, or whatever! :2cents:
Earlzach 06-22-2005, 04:32 PM Thanks guys for getting this behind us with a future ahead.
Dont be hatin!
Grafixx01 06-22-2005, 09:18 PM I might wear jean instead of my riding pants if I'm just running a couple miles up to the store. But other than that I wear my gear. For the most part I don't think people care if you are out for a quick little ride or an all day adventure, they'll still pull right out in front of you.
:iagree: , wait, I don't have leathers yet so yeah, I got no choice but to wear jeans. Although on today's 400+ mile trip up to Albequerque, NM, I um, yeah took some turns really leaning hard, got some scrapes.
R1up0n1 06-22-2005, 09:23 PM I need to buy some leather riding pants with the knee pucks built in, I just wear heavy jeans now, but I have been scraping jeans lately, just glad I wear them baggy so I know when I touch.

That's what I'm gonna do. I know a guy who is selling a couple of full pairs of leathers and only wants like $200 for them. I want a two-piece AGV Sport set though, so I think I'm gonna have to pass on this guys.

My friend KatanaMan here on TWF just hit a deal like that last week, some guy was selling his full leather suit and he hit a hell of a deal on it. Lucky!

Well, I could ask this guy what he wants for his and sizes if you want. I also know a guy selling a leather jacket and gloves, maker is something that starts with a "T" but he's not asking that much either.

I'm only 5'4" so it probably wouldn't fit me, most of my gear is either small or medium.

It may fit you. I'm not that much taller than you and I think that the guy is like only 5'4-5'5". I'll check if you want. The jacket, I think is a large/xl though. I know a bunch of people around here selling some used equipment in good to excellent condition and good prices so just let me know.

Well the only thing I need is a 1 or 2 piece leather suit, so if you know anyone that is 5'4" that is selling one and in excellent shape, find out for me because I am interested.

Will do. I'll ask around.
