Rockslide in Clear Creek Canyon, CO

A massive rockslide fell on two semi-trucks in Clear Creek Canyon, outside Golden, Colorado. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt. On a weekend, the road is crowded with bikers and gamblers going to Blackhawk and Central City. Picture and info: http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_2816167.

No Worries, That sucks man, that's where you usually ride? Next time I come up to CO from Tx, I'm bringing the bike. So I'll have to let you know so you can show me these twisties you mentioned a little while back. Seein' as how the other guy that I know in the Denver area is a 'busta' on riding and shiot like that. He only rides his bike to work, that's it. Doesn't like going on weekend long rides, etc.

Dude, can you imagine if that happened while riding your bike by it? Shiot, I'd shiot in my pants. I don't know if I'd make it outa there. Throttle or would it take you before you could react?

Both those semi dump trucks were heading toward each other and saw the rockslide coming down. Both drove toward the creek to avoid the rocks and save their lifes. In the 70's and 80's I used to take this road all the time. It went up to some ghost towns and there was no traffic. In the early 90's, they made the ghost towns into gambling towns. Now there's trucks, buses, motorhomes, and cruisers going up there. The good thing is that there are a bunch more twisty roads all over the area.

Ya know I thought about stuff like that when riding down by the GAP along those mountains... what's the odds of being there when one of those rocks comes tumbling down? But that looked like some good 4x4'in stuff!

The Colorado DOT did something right. They have to blast more loose rock so the highway won't open until September. But they opened the highway, almost to the rockslide, for "recreational use". I took the CBR up there yesterday. It was like riding up that canyon in the 70's. No traffic. I came up on a van, but it was loaded with kayakers and I waved as I passed on the double yellow. It's only open from 8am to 7pm, and you have to turn around near the slide and go back, but what an excellent idea.
