Sweet looking bike. Why don't we get some of those test market bikes? It would be cool if you could at least order some of the overseas and Canadian models. It can't be that hard to make them US legal. Lets just hope it does well elsewhere so they bring it here.

It's not too hard, varies state by state, but defintely not a show-stopper if you really have your heart set on a Canadian model. I know I come across quite a few canadian model bikes here in MI, with MI plates on em.

People used to inport canadian SVS and Z750's. Im sure these wont be hard. With some fairings, they may race head to head with SV's. I think i saw hp#'s in the 70 region. I'll look around.

Hi there. The ER-6n is not for North America just yet. Its a slightly new direction (for Kawasaki at least) - they're trying to entice more newbies, older riders and ladies to give motorcycling a try. Its a slightly less intimidating machine (note the softer shapes than the current z1000 and z750 models) and since its a twin, should have more torque down low than the inline-4 models of similar displacement from the other Japanese manufacturers. I'd guess that it would compete favourably over here with the Honda 599 and Yamaha FZ-6. I'd love to do a shoot-out between this and the SV650 though. You can read the whole press release here: http://www.canadianstreetbike.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=27&Itemid=2 I'd be stoked if it were to become a North American model. Unfortunately, the Japanese manufacturers see less of a market in NA for most bikes that aren't cruisers or race-replicas. But that's another argument all together! Thanks. -Chris Editor, CanadianStreetBike.com

They deffinately want some of the SV market.... taken from motoring.co.za After a week of rumour and fuzzy "pirated" images Kawasaki has finally announced the launch of a radical new middleweight streetfighter it calls the ER-6n. The name should give you clues about where it has come from: yep, it's the old faithful, parallel-twin engine from the ER-5 (and before that the GPZ500S), bored out to 649cc and fuel-injected through two 38mm throttle bodies. But it does come in a really attitudinous chassis welded up from high-tensile steel tubing. Kawasaki consumer products president Shinichi Morita said: "Our goal has always been to bring to market models in keeping with our heritage as a manufacturer of high-performance machines, something we will of course continue to do 'From 2006 we are also looking to expand our hard-core fan base' . "But, from 2006, we want to expand our hard-core fan base; the ER-6n is being released early to give you a taste of what you can expect from Kawasaki soon." Its styling is outrageous by the standards of normally conservative Kawasaki, with the silencer under the engine like a Buell, an offset single rear shock and discreet pods for the (vertically mounted) headlights, clocks and fuel tank. The swing-arm is made of elliptical steel tubing and has been narrowed by offsetting the spokes of the cast rear wheel and putting the rear disc brake inside it. The brakes use petal-shaped floating discs all round with two hefty four-pot callipers in front and a dinky singl pot at the rear. The bike is narrow, the seat low and the steering head angle steep – this is going to be a hooligan tool of note 'The ER-6n is being released early to give you a taste of what you can expect from Kawasaki' . Sources at Kawasaki SA mentioned a power output of 53kW, a little more than that of the rival Suzuki SV650 V-twin. If weight has been kept down the bike should be a leading performer in its class. It comes in two flavours – the naked version you see here and a half-faired (probably less radical) layout, available with or without anti-lock brakes. They're available in metallic yellow with a bronze frame, a superb silver on a purple frame and a black-on-bronze finish that looks mean just standing. KMSA's Arnold Olivier told motoring.co.za the ER-6n would be available in South Africa in the last quarter of 2005 – "definitely in time for Christmas". Prices have yet to be set but Olivier hoped the base model would be significantly less expensive than Kawasaki's Z750S – which sells for R68 995. Kawasaki's media release is short on detail – as usual the three important numbers - power, torque and weight - are missing but the rest is in our specification sheet

This is a wide open market that Suzuki opened and all will most likely test the waters.

The silver one reminds me of the 1982 Suzuki Katana.
