Hey guys im new here to the site as well as the bike scene.. Two of my really good friends have bikes and i just kinda fell in love, lol. One of them has a 05 Kawi ZX6RR and the other has a 05 CBR600.. Well i decided to get a bike and i really want a CBR600 but i don't have the money and i want to wait until i learn how to ride the bike better.. I would like something thats sporty looking but i know thats hard for my budget ($3500). I was looking and i ran into the Suzuki Bandit 600 and the Suzuki Katana 600.. I was wondering what is the better of the two or if you know of another good bike in mu budget.. I would like to get into stunting a bit in a year or so, but i don't know if the Katana is cabable of doing such task.. Help me hout guys.. Thanks..

i just wanted to say :welcome: the katana definately fits the sporty style you are looking for, but i haven't ridden either one, so i am not in a position to guide you there. stunting in a year?! have you ever ridden before? take it slow. every day you throw your leg over your bike you'll learn something new. definately take the time to get to know your bike and your riding style before you get to ambitious. have fun out there and congrats on becoming one of us. you'll get lots of good advice here. :twfrox:

welcome.. the kat is a great bike to start on.. only thing shes a little heavy. more heavy than the cbr and the zx6. if it was me i would throw together 4 or 5 g's and get a used cbr or zx6. u can find good used bike around. try cycle trader or what not. but do a lot of looking around before u buy. dont buy the first think u see. just my 2 cents

:welcome: I think the most important bit of advice I got from here when I started looking for a bike is to look for... USED!! Can't stress that enough. Especially if you're serious about trying stunting. I assure you, I don't care how manly you think you are, the first time you drop the bike ( and there's a good chance you may ) you will cry. On a used bike, that you've accepted is what you're going to be learning on, dropping isn't as traumatic. You'll also probably find your chances of being able to pay for it, a little easier. I got a '98 GSX-R6 thru a friend for a song, and have been lovin' the fact that I have no payments, I just ride. Consider that along with your choice of bike. I've heard on many a site that the SV-650 is a great starter bike. Also, speaking as a newbie myself, I can't stress taking the MSF classes enough.

Yea iv'e been riding for about a year now but on dirtbikes, so this is my first streetbike... About the cash thing is i'm moving in with a buddy so i have to buys a bed and such so i won't have the full $4000-$5000 that i would have had before the house and car problems... Not to say im not looking.. I look everyday on the cycletrader because you never know when i great deal will pop up...

:welcome: :twfrox: That's the best way to shop! If your not in a hurry, that's when the best deals come around. Grab a used bike that suits your preference and budget, learn to ride it till your completely comfortable on it. Then start looking for the bike you truly desire.

Have you take into the consideration of additional cost of extra safety gears (possibly up to 1k for avg gears), insurance, and the frequent maintaianence such as oil and tires (which only last for a few thousand miles on the roads)?

I won't even get into the MSF stuff and the idea of stunting... that wasn't your question. Kat, any 600cc bike, SV650....those are all great bike to start. You should be able to get a CBR for that price range. It will just have to be a bit older. :luck: with your search. Make sure you stick around. There are also many threads about this here on TWF...just search around!

I ride a Bandit 600. Its definately not a stunting bike. That said I love it! Real comfortable to ride solo or two-up. I use it for weekend fun and commuting and it does everything well for me. The Katana has the same engine and running gear with the exception of a slightly different gear ratio and adjustable forks. Suzuki claims the dry weight to be the same. Either would make a good mount but probably not for tricks. Hope this helps.

thanks guys... O and yea i have taken into consideration the gear, such as jacket, helmet, and gloves... I'll probably end up with a kat 600 more thatn likely..

If your loking to spend around 4000 or so look at the SV650(s). Great bike and will do everything you need it to. (talk to SVupon1) As for the Bandit and Katana, I own an older katana, and have ridden a few others and a few Bandits as well. 89-97 katanas and Bandits are virtually the same. Neither are good for stunting as they were not made for this. they are sport touring (loose suspension, a little heavy) The newer kats are stretched a little longer and still are not good for stunting. But, on a good note, for a first bike I'll give it a thumbs up. Starting with a SS bike like a CBR or 600RR and already thinking of stunting it is a bad mix and is asking for trouble. Its alot easier for them to get away from you and I speak for eveyone when I say we dont want that to happen to anyone.

I think alot of others will also agree on the forum.

Well a 250 is really on the small side, anything in a 600 class is the best way to go. However there are alot of 600's that are not good to start on i.e anything brand new, or even a R6, or a CBR RR, ZX636 still could be a bit much to start out on. It all depends on how much experience you have on the seat.

Here's a local board: http://www.sportbikes.ws/forumdisplay.php?f=135 Talk to FoxyF4i (Rachel), she's a very good rider. And she stared on a 250 Ninja and worked up to a CBR and it paid off. Don't rush it. . Also, Okaive and Z1000 are both MSF instructors. Talk to them about signing up for the course before buying anything. Sean
