Captain Morgan 07-19-2005, 10:42 PM Damn, I got lucky tonight. Got pulled over for 75 in a 55 and he let me off with a warning. Not sure exactly what I did to keep from getting the ticket, but maybe it had something to do with pulling over as soon as I saw him pull a U-turn in the median. At any rate, he was apparently in a good mood and he just told me to slow down and that he was giving me a break. Also said that 99% of the time a person gets pulled over for 20 more than the limit while running a radar detector, they get a ticket. Sure glad I was in that 1% tonight.

Grafixx01 07-19-2005, 11:49 PM Yes Captain, I'm glad to hear that you got outa the ticket. I did the same thing when I went flying down the off-ramp of the interstate at 80mph (recommended at 40). I pulled over before the cop pulled out of the median or turned on his lights. I saw him just start the car, it was an Impala so you saw the side markers come on. So I pulled over, got everything, stopped the car, flashers and all. He was like, "Ok, slow down, I'm gonna give you a warning."

LOL Funny 3BoyzNaBike! Also great quote from EuroTrip in your siggy.
Capt, I am guessing he let you go because you pulled over immediately. I think the cops are always expecting a bike to flee. When I got pulled over for the 131mph he was pretty easy on me after he realized I had a clear record and thank'd me for not running. I mean you run and get caught your screwed. By pulling over immediately I saw chances are good the cop will appreciate not dealing with the chase and give you a break (long as your cool to him and not a complete arragant a-hole). :dthumb:

Ace :iagree: . However I did just that, I got clocked doing 94 in a 55, and the cop had his lights on before I even got to him. So I figured I had better stop, that and the fact that I live in a small ass town where everybody recognizes your bike he would of found me eventually. So I complied, and I didn't try to come up with some half ass excuse that he wasn't going to believe anyways. and he still wrote me, granted he did knock 10mph off the ticket, but so much for my clean driving record.

Grafixx01 07-21-2005, 12:49 AM There is this spray that I seen at the store and on TV (late night) that you spray on the plate and when a bright light it shined on it, it like fogs over. Also does it if you view it from the side. I think the like direct view of the plate is only like 15'. Next time I see it on TV, I'll post the link to it.

Graffix, I think I know what your talking about. There is a spray on the market as well as a clear plate cover that supposedly blurs of fogs the plate, which then basically masks it for photo radar (which is not used in many states).
They also have plate covers which do something to absorb radar/ laser waves, preventing them from bouncing back to the police unit, or when they do return it gives false reading. I saw this product in a german catalog. However I am a little skepticle on if any of them really work or do anything. In college I wrote a series of papers for a criminal Justice class based on radar and radar detection. I did ride alongs with State Police etc and got a pretty good idea of how it works. Radar is actually pretty simple, and laser is pretty accurate (if they can hit you).
Gas Man 07-21-2005, 09:25 AM That's why I weave in and out of traffic irradically...so they can't get their sights on me... DAMN POPO's!!
wombat7 07-21-2005, 09:55 AM Capt,
Where were you driving when you got pulled over??
Captain Morgan 07-21-2005, 10:23 AM Capt,

Well, just to be kind to the State Trooper, I won't divulge that info. I would think he MIGHT get in trouble for writing me a warning for 20 over the limit. But let's just be vague and say it was North of Terre Haute on a state highway.
wombat7 07-21-2005, 11:42 AM up by where I live...hm... I will have to start watching my speed...

AZ just happens to be one of those Photo Radar states. It kinda works. The radar is usually set at about 10 over the limit and then they take a picture for speeding. Most of them are in Police marked minivans. These bastards like to hide behind big cacti and trees and sometimes you wont be able to see them till the last second. then there are the Stationary ones that are placed in high speeding areas (ie 90 in 45) or where a lot fatalities due to high speeds. And then there are the red light radars. Self explanitory...
Basically It all depends on who's name the car is registered under. If a photo is taken of a female speeding and that car is registered under a males name, they usually throw it out. something about a lawsuit where some guy was cheating on his wife and his mistress borrowed his car and the ticked and photo was mailed to his house. :yikes: Shoulda kept his rocket in his pocket.:yesnod: He sued the city for "ruining his life" and I think won. Crazy . Sometimes if you just dont pay it, it might go away also. I know a few people who did that.
As far as the license plate spray or covers go, the law states in AZ, any object hindering the clear vision of your license plate is strictly illegal . When I got my speeding ticket 9 months ago, I went to that class and the retired bike cop explained that no cover or spray over your license plate is legal. He said he usually told them if you remove it now, I wont write you up for it. But maybe it's all good for the rest of the states.
Grafixx01 07-21-2005, 02:00 PM I know NY and Colorado are using them. Texas probably uses them but not here in El Paso.
They take pictures if you run red lights, then you get a ticket with a picture of your plate in the mail like a week after you run the light. I'm not too sure about the radar thing though. I don't know about that one. I just know that when you have it, it makes it hard for cops chasing you to see the plate for a definative reading of your tag.
Anyways, thanks Ace for saying what it does and all that. :dthumb:
