I just sold my 2004 R1 and purchased a 2005 FZ1. I am going to ride from Phoenix to Denver and back via NewMexico this weekend. I'll post about the comfort when I return! ;)
No need for pictures yet as everything is bone stock and likely to stay that way. The wife is happy that the FZ actually has a passenger seat compared to the R1.
Anyone have issues with the BT020 tires that come stock on the FZ? Or any other issues I should be aware of?

I think you will be happy with the BT020's on that bike unless you ride at race pace.

I've got the BT020's and I like them.
Why the hell would you get rid of an 04 R1? Couldn't handle it on the long rides or what?

Yeah, the long rides in a straight line were terrible. Enter the 60 miles of twisties on Route 666 (now 191) and it rocked the house. Probably one of the best handling 4 cylinder bikes I have ever owned. But it was only good for that and looking at. Dead sexy machine, grrrrrowl! :)
Gonna track bike an R6 for testosterone sessions in the future and put the comfort back into my street riding. It is also nice to get my wife back onto a bike again.
Nice comfy padded seat makes the baboon butt less severe.

I ride for the curves and twisty's and stunts, not straight roads, but other people have different styles. I ride with a group of FZ1 riders off a forum every year at the gap..(FZ1 Gap Rally) they are great bikes, and you can still hit up some twisties with it.
Take some pics of your trip!

Not taking the wife on this trip. I am going to Denver to preview some software for running a martial arts business with the owner of the schools I attend. He has as VTX 1800 and I got the feeling my invite was related to the technical field more than my being a student at one of his schools. But it is all good. I really want a nice cool ride to get out of the Ariz heat and monsoon humidity. It has been raining heavy here so I have the AGP rainsuit ready for deployment. If the weather permits picture taking I will post some up here or at warpedrotor.com.
:yikes:
shameless plug.

Sounds like a nice run....I hear ya bout the heat and humidity. I just got back from 5 weeks in south georgia, and it was freakin brutal. 95 degrees and 9000% humidity.

I got the blue one and am happy with it. I really like the silver one but, silver is just a favorite auto/bike color of mine.
I am lauging about that Georgia comment. I was stationed at Ft.Stewart/HAAF in '85-'86. Riding through the humidity, dodging possum and armadillo was part of my daily commute.
Is it November yet?

Congrats I have an FZ1 w/ those tires and 8400 miles. MO problems at all. They are not worn much but because of being 4+ years I am going to get them changed this fall just for prevent maint. As far as grip and road comfort they have been Awesome. In fact I am going to replace them with the same tire. Good luck and post up some pics, would love to se your bike.
