Hello all, I am new to the forum. I have an 05' R1 Raven and have a question. I am wondering if anybody out there knows how to get the red stripe off of the Raven Wheels? I am not sure if there is a clear coat on the wheels or not and I really don't feel like getting them painted if I don't have to. :readng: :willy: Thank you, tomb020871

Welcome, And why? At the speed of the Ravin who is goint o see it?lol Any how I dont know how to remove it. You might just look into trading off your wheels for a set of solid black. Somebody else may want the stripe.

Well, I guess it really depends if it has a clear coat or not. Here's how to tell: 1. Clean the wheel 2. Take a white rag and polish to the wheel. If the rag is clean after polishing, then you have a clear coat on the wheel. If the rag is red (if used on red part) or black (if used on black part of wheel), then you do not have clear coat on the wheels. If there is no clear coat, then you can take some 1000 grit sandpaper to the red stripe. Just go in one direction. After the red is gone, you'll need to polish the area again. Start with wet sanding with 1500 grit in opposite direction of first sand. Then use 2000 grit in opposite direction of second sanding. Then use polish in circular motion. If there is a clear coat, you can possibly follow the same steps but it will take much longer. Also, you will either need to re-spray a clearcoat on the wheels or polish them on a regular basis.

First off :welcome: I don't really like Capt's idea! Sorry Capt! Why don't you just get a black or gray tire trim sticker and put it over the red? But, i don't understand why either, cause I think it looks HOTT!!!

Thank you everyone so far for all of your input. So far, and after thinking about it :bonk: I think I will initially use wheel tape. That way if I don't like the way it looks I can take that off and have the red stripe back. Plus everyone I ask around here says the same thing "why would you want to do that? the Red stripe looks cool". I was just thinking of blacking out the entire bike. Any thoughts?

The sandpaper idea.... just scares me!! Like :yikes:  If you take your time and have patience, it's not a problem. It's just something you have to practice, I guess. I used to be afraid of it as well, but I had to use it to remove pinstripes from an old vette that still had original paint on it. If I could do that and not screw up the paint, then it's not really that difficult.

What do you guys think of blacking out the majority of the bike?

What do you guys think of blacking out the majority of the bike? I see a Raven around here. He still has the stripes on the wheels. All the pegs and other shiny stuff are either carbon fiber or have been powdered coated in black. I think it looks cool.
