Gas Man 10-10-2005, 10:31 PM Last night me and some friends were hanging out at my house and my buddy got a call from a mutual friend. His son in California had been in a very serious motorcycle accident and has a 50/50 chance of living. The father, friend of mine, is back here in Michigan and his son is in California.
We were all pretty downed by this call and extremely concern for the family. We all know the father, mother, and son. So now the father is trying to get things in order to fly out to Cali for all of this.
About 45 minutes pass, and the phone rings again. He had died from his injuries. We don't know anymore. Trying not to press on the info at this time.
It is very sad. His son, age 26, is a Humvee mechanic for the military. He is based out the San Diego area. He is married and has a son and 2 step daughters from his wife's previous relationship.
The father is in Cali now dealing with all of this. We are waiting to hear on the funeral arrangements so we can send some flowers and whatever.
So I have a few questions...
Any suggestions on a flower company for the area? Will something like 1800flowerpro.com work over there?
Also, I need help locating a news article or somin on this. I tried a bit but I thought I would call upon all my TWF'ers for help. Anybody here from that area?
jeeps84 10-10-2005, 10:37 PM My condolences to you and his family members.
Most all the online florist will work and or tell you if they can deliver to the right place.
Gas Man 10-11-2005, 12:29 AM Thanks, but I don't really need any condolences for its not I that is the greatest morning. It is just sad to see a young guy die over something so stupid. Plus to see my friend have to bury his son. You aren't suppose to have to bury your kid.
I really really want to find a news article.
jeeps84 10-11-2005, 12:31 AM My condolences to his family members.
I cant help you with the other. :sorry:
Gas Man 10-11-2005, 12:42 AM Yeah, the gym I work out at (which the father owns) has a card out and taking donations for a flower for the funeral, and to wire some money to the mother and father to help with the travel expenses.
My wife and I, are doing the same between our close group of friends that know them. So we'll send flowers and probably a western union wire.
But anyway, I will spend some more time tomorrow looking for a article but if anybody else has any ideas or time to find one, I would be greatly appriciated.
jeeps84 10-11-2005, 12:51 AM It would help to have a name.

I have used 1800flowers.com in the past with good results.
Be advised; any email address you give them will be flooded with junk mail.

Not sure it's what you are looking for, not too much info there.

Marine dies in motorcycle crash
By: Wire Reports -
JULIAN ---- An active-duty Marine died Sunday after his motorcycle crashed on State Route 78, authorities said.
The victim, whose name was not released Sunday because family members had not been notified, lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown to the ground, a Medical Examiner's Office investigator said. He died at the scene.
The crash happened shortly before 11:30 a.m. on the highway just east of Wynola Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

2FURYUS 10-11-2005, 08:30 AM Julian...he was up in the mountains riding...popular weekend ride.
fatburg 10-11-2005, 08:50 AM I just reread it and I'm not sure that one is right, it says he died at the scene. That would be just too much of a coincidence two marines died on motorcyles in the san diego area though.

:iagree: but, it is the news reporting. They don't always get every thing just right.

I hear ya...maybe GM can get more info....
Gas Man 10-11-2005, 09:48 AM That sure sounds right. Thanks Fat...that was great! Let me know if you find more.
His name is Damian Stewart...if that helps...
fatburg 10-11-2005, 10:45 AM I'll keep a look out Gas. As far as flowers, if you know where the funeral will be you can use the old Google Local and find a florist pretty easy. Give em a call and tell them exactly what you are wanting.
Gas Man 10-11-2005, 11:10 AM Yeah, still waiting on the funeral arrangements info....
Gas Man 10-11-2005, 11:46 PM Upon further looking at those articles..that is for a rider that died back in Sep... not the one I'm refering to...
talisman_13 10-12-2005, 06:49 AM Gas Man...sorry to hear about your friend's loss. I'm a Safety Rep for my unit...I might be able to get something useful for you through some contacts I have. The bad thing is this poor guy was a Marine, and we don't exactly cross services due to the circumstances, but I'll get what I can when it comes out. What exactly are you looking for?

 your right, I was looking at the date at the top of the page. I wasn't thinking the details were lining up quite right. :sorry: about that.
Have you found out anymore about the accident and what happened? I'll look around some more today when I get a chance.
Gas Man 10-12-2005, 10:24 AM Talismen... just looking for some articles. Something I can print and save for the family and/or post at the gym that the father owns. Everybody there is very concerned.
Fat... we haven't heard anything from him. Everybody deals with this stuff differently. Either he is just that busy; wants to keep it to himself and the family; or is just internalizing it all, which isn't good. One of us is going to call today and get info...
Man sorry GM, wish there was something I could do for ya bud but I am having no luck in finding anything on the net.
Gas Man 10-12-2005, 10:52 AM I appreciate the effort.... I'm trying to do things for their family.
It caught me up a little cause he's my age, 26, married but worse cause he has kids.

Also, don't make much of a fuss about it. Don't want to cause any problems with the military due to the circumstances...

C'mon man...like I'd do anything against regulations:dthumb: He's my age too (although I'm not married and don't have kids) and I'd like to assist in any way. We had a guy in Italy die this weekend too from a bike accident. Navy fella, 24, married, two kids...it really sucked this weekend.
But getting safety reports and the like...that's my job, so no worries.
Gas Man 10-12-2005, 11:29 PM Cool, let me know what you come up with.
Me and my friends have been searching online for stuff and came up empty handed...
Gas Man 10-13-2005, 11:00 PM So tonight I found out some of the details...
He was riding with a group of guys...say like 20... going down the highway side by side, I guess in the right lane. Damian was on the right side of the lane.
So there was a car that was trying to merge in. Guys in the MC group were swerving over to let the car in and I guess he didn't look and swerved to avoid this merging car. He collided with the bike next to him and his bike ricoshade off that bike and went flying. He (himself) hit a concrete embankment and it tore his arm completely off.
They stabalized him at the hosiptal but he had lost ALOT of blood. The doctors then had the task or decision to figure out what do with his arm. The doctors decided that due to his young age that it would be worth trying to reattach his arm.
They believed he was stable enough, so they called in a med-helicopper to move him to a better hospital for this. While enroute he went into shock and they lost him. They tried everything in the helicopper and said he would have been loss regardless where he was, due to the very high technology they have on those helicoppers.
The moral of the story... don't ride side by side!

:iagree: As soon as I read that part, I had a feeling that it was going to be the reason why it happened.
Total bummer, Gas. My condolences. :angelhap:
Street Fighter 10-16-2005, 06:16 PM This sucks! I am getting tired of hearing these stories. Too many riders going down for stupid actions.
jeeps84 10-16-2005, 09:58 PM Most all riders go down because of stupid actions. Whether its somebody else's fault or their fault.
