What's your opinion? rworkman98 10-26-2005, 02:21 PM it makes sense. Gas Man 10-26-2005, 02:39 PM Unfortuantely..many of these players are looked upto by children. With that said, they should act and dress accordingly. Now with that is... well its all POV.
The very idea that it is a racial thing "pisses" me off. Not EVERYTHING is racial! I hate when people play the race card! :damn: :cursin:
If the commisioner is trying to bring up the look of the NBA this is certainly a good way at going at it. He has a biz to run.
However, sense its ok if Unless approved by one's team, I see this being a bargining chip for the players! You watch... it will be in contracts... just like the spoiled, "self important" brats that most pro athletetes are!
:2cents: DLIT 10-26-2005, 03:07 PM Too frekin long to read. Esecially about basketball. Pigface1 10-26-2005, 03:27 PM I think Stern needed to stay out of it. The owners should have a dress code and enforce it.
Jordan, Bird, Magic, etc etc etc, all looked like professionals when they weren't playing, and acted like professionals on the court. Not now, it's like a bunch of multi-million dollar making 8 year olds out there that throw tantrums when they don't get what they want. No discipline, and no care for anyone but themselves. And that's why our "Dream Team" was a f'n joke and didn't even medal in the last Olympics. It's a huge problem, but Stern's problem is just a bandaid for what's really happening.
Highschool kids are getting these ridiculous contracts and they don't have a clue how to play team ball. That's the owners' faults for giving them the contracts, and our faults for supporting them.
Still though, I'll enjoy my Hornets season tix this year even more so when Ron Artest comes to town. Watch Sports Center that night. .  Pigface1 10-26-2005, 03:28 PM The very idea that it is a racial thing "pisses" me off. Not EVERYTHING is racial! I agree, it's bull****. If they looked like a bunch of skinheads or Hell's Angels on the sideline, it would be the same problem. Wear a f'n suit, you make enough money. :iagree: You made good points in both posts! :iagree: The NBA is out of control! There is no loyalty, honor, or respect. The only thing that matters to many of the players is the size of their contracts, be it NBA contract or endorsements. I don't see anything wrong with a dress code. My employer requires a certain style of dress why would the NBA be any different. The players from back in the day carried themselves as professionals and looked the part. Now, the NBA is full of 18, 19, and 20 year olds that have no concept of the real world or how to be a professional in it. Although the enforced dress code is a step in the right direction, there is alot more that needs to be done. Gas Man 10-27-2005, 11:04 AM :iagree: jeeps84 10-27-2005, 11:10 AM What's the problem? Looking respectable for the fans? I don't understand  . We as adults really don't care what they do until we see the influence on the kids. :yikes: Then we go to pieces. I bet he has a child acting and dressing like some of the players and is :cursin: about it. DAN DUBEAU 10-27-2005, 11:21 AM The best thing to ever happen to basket ball was slam ball. Full contact basketball, with walls and a trampolines. I wish it was still on.
And best of all, it was played by average joes. Not multi millionaire pussies who piss and moan anytime something doesn't go their way.
I've only ever been to one NBA game (toronto Raptors) and it was a night of my life i'll never get back. I'm glad I didn't have to pay the $80 it cost for my $hitty seats. tC Driver 10-27-2005, 11:27 AM I think all of the NBA players should take it one step further and show up in pimped out 20 thousand dollar suits, gator shoes the whole nine. Then they'll change rules again. I feel racism DOES exist in the NBA....Why:
-- Mostly black players, so anytime there is a fight or scuffle the media blows it up more so than in any other sport. Hockey players are like 99% white and are allowed to fight cuz its "part of the game"...BS double standard...Then people say "its a contact sport" So is Football and when is the last time you've seen someone get hurt in a football fight where they were full pads and facemasks???
---Another thing, You can't wear chains over your clothes??? Gimme a F***N break. Long before blacks where rockin ice italians have been where gold chains outside there clothes. They just hate to see brothas rockin diamond/platinum chains that cost more than there houses.
--DooRags...How many white guys in the NBA you see wearin doo rags? Not only are they for looks but they do serve a purpose for keeping a certain hairstyle. So basically they want the player to dress nice and keep fugly hairstyles?
I'm gonna stop before my BP gets too high :yikes:
Peace tC Driver 10-27-2005, 11:53 AM fixed :dthumb: itgirl25 10-27-2005, 12:24 PM i would think one would want to dress to impress. they are representing a company, they have an image to project. i think this is a good thing. after all, you wouldn't hire an accountant or lawyer that sports cut off tees and a "thug life" tattoo, now would you? it's all about the image.... pickle.of.doom 10-27-2005, 12:30 PM The stupid part is that if they wear their gear that they HAVE to wear to work (uniform) home, they are in violation. I think the whole thing is a joke, if parents are that worried about what their children's role models dress like, then maybe they should be a bit MORE worried about WHO their kids role models are. Sorry, 99% of sports stars are not role model material. If they did some parenting on their own, theywouldnt have to pressure people into doing the parenting for them. tC Driver 10-27-2005, 12:42 PM I agree with the image is important. Look at your average hockey player: 2 teeth and they look homeless. Ricky williams grows his beard out the same way and he gets slammed for it but nobody talks about the hockey players.
Pro players should be viewed as players to children not role models I agree 100%. If the parents would do their job as "parents" then we wouldn't have to worry about the kids. Most wealthy parents hire Nanna's and sitters to do the dirty work and discipline(spell check) of raising their kids, so the parents aren't around to be "Role Models" Ace 10-27-2005, 01:04 PM Thugs! They are all a bunch of Thugs! Pigface1 10-27-2005, 01:55 PM What's the problem? Looking respectable for the fans? I don't understand  . Who cares about the kids, if the parents don't want the kids acting like idiots, maybe they should be parents for once instead of pointing fingers.
I'm sick of the U.S. getting humiliated in the Olympics by teams that had never even seen a basketball until the 90s. Gas Man 10-27-2005, 01:57 PM Had to remove a image from the thread for Personal Attack (http://www.twowheelforum.com/showthread.php?t=5857) towards another member!

1. There are black players in the MLB and the benches clear a few times a year. So there goes that argument.
2. Italians with gold chains hanging out is tacky as hell too. If they players are going to make manly money, they can sure as hell at least attempt to act professional here and there. Issiah Thomas is saying the same thing, but I'm sure he's just a white guy trapped in a black point guard's body.
3. Doo rags.. it's not highschool, be a professional.
"That's racist, that's racist!" Bull****, it's life and everyone has to deal with it. It's just that some of us aren't given a convenient scape goat like the race card when things don't go our way. I'm supposed to feel pity for someone making millions per year that doesn't even play defense because they're not allowed to wear a f'n do-rag? lmao Right. :nopity: Gas Man 10-27-2005, 02:05 PM I'm not sure where some people get the idea that its racist. He is curving the behavior of his employees. Plain and simple. Its not his fault that the majority is black. I'm sure if there was a bunch of white people in the sport wearing overalls to everygame with no underwear or shirts on...then that would be the issue he would address..
MAN O MAN!! :cursin: I hate when people play the race card! tC Driver 10-27-2005, 02:08 PM Gasman
Are you saying that race has nothing to do with the new dress code? tC Driver 10-27-2005, 02:19 PM All I am trying to say is that some ( especially wealthy older white people) hate to see a brother havin thangs.
ie: Not too long ago I saw a brotha probably late 20's- mid 30's driving a really expensive benz. I'm not gonna repeat what I heard coming out of this old white guys mouth but you get my drift. You all will probably say that race has nothing to do with that either. :tt: Pigface1 10-27-2005, 02:30 PM There are racists on all sides, so don't give me that crap.
Unfortunately for a lot of people, they're neck deep in self fulfilling prophecies.
When I dressed like a hoodlum, it's amazing how much trouble I got in with the law. Typical speeding tickets turned into as many tickets as the officer could dream up.
I look respectable now, and I get warnings.
After 15 years of driving, it's not just coincidence.
If you look like a thug and act like a thug, you'll be treated like a thug. F'em, no pity. ShanMan14 10-27-2005, 02:30 PM I agree with the image is important. Look at your average hockey player: 2 teeth and they look homeless. Ricky williams grows his beard out the same way and he gets slammed for it but nobody talks about the hockey players.
Careful now, you're starting to sound racist. Before you typed that remark you said "Hockey players are like 99% white".
First off, fighting in hockey has always been a part of the sport. There is a penalty specifically for it. Basketball does not have a fighting penalty and the history of basketball does not contain fighting. That's an undeniable fact.
The people that say fighting isn't a part of hockey, don't understand the game. That's fine because most people don't understand the game; I can't fault naive statements due to a lack of understanding.
Drawing upon stereotypes labeling hockey players as "homeless" is absurd. Every sport has it's classy players and not so classy players.
Finally, there are black players in the NHL. I don't know what the percentage is, it very well may be the 1% you assume. Nevertheless let's not forget some very successful [current]black hockey players:
Jarome Iginla
Jamal Mayers
Anson Carter
Donald Brashear
Mike Grier
Bryce Salvador
Kevin Weekes
Incidentally, many, if not all, of these black players have fought in the NHL. Photos are available via a Google image search. tC Driver 10-27-2005, 02:35 PM There are racists on all sides, so don't give me that crap.
