Hi everyone. I have been on corvette forum for years and I recognize many of the names on here... its kinda cool. Any way, I have been modding vettes and other cars for years, have done a number of track event, drags, auto X etc ... I just sold the vette because I bought a new condo in the city and had no where to keep the car. So now im looking to get back into a bike to scratch the itch,... also its easy to park the bike in the city. I had a couple of dirt bikes in the past and have been aro0und bikes for a while, but i never bothered to do much research on the actual bike. I think i want either an Honda F4, or a 929... But I am also looking at GSXR's. I want something with a ton of power so i dont have to go digging for it later. I want something that nible and responsive, and also fairly easy to ride. Price wise I dont mind spending, as long as im getting a good deal, I would really love to be around the 3-4K mark but i can go all the way up to $10K Im gonna poke around here before I start asking all the questions that have been asked 1000s of times before, but if you have any suggestions please let me know

:welcome: Monster If power is what your after. You need to stay away from Honda. They have plenty of power on tap but, you will have to dig for it. You didn't say what kind of ridding you intend to do. Do you want to go fast fast in a straight line? Do you want to go fast in the corners? Or both? Do you need a bike to travel on. I/We just need more info before I/we could recommend anything.

From what Ive read its got the speed, power, and handling. If you want to know more, ask Jeeps, he has one. BTW, Where abouts are you from? :twfrox:

:welcome: First off, good pre-planning I just hope you don't screw up the exacution of the plan... a newbie to street riding with a big bore bike is a dangerous combo. Not to say you can't do it well...just stats tell us...ya know... It sounded you were looking for a used bike. That way if you do show the stats right, at least it isn't brand new. I disagree with Jeeps. Honda puts out good stuff, regardless if its a street bike, a mower, car, generator, or anything else. You just can't go wrong with a Honda! The 929 or the 954 should provide more than enough power to wet your lips! (if you're a guy that phrase is a little less preverted  ) But don't worry, that's just my :2cents: and by the end of this thread you'll probably have enough to make a buck or two...

Hi everyone I have had a good amout riding time, I used to ride my roomates bikes on a daily basis. Im leaning more towards a used bike, My buddy has a 93 gsxr 1100 that he has modded the hell out of and that thing moves. So im thinking of buying something in the $4k range for now and maybe upgrading to a new bike when i actually know what the H im doing and looking for. I dont need a total beginers bike, but i would like one that I can grow into, my biggest thing is I need the power to be there when i ask for it. I wont be racing or anything like that, just buzzing around town, and some mid range crusies here and there. BTW im from Chicago :yikes:

A 91 or later Kawasaki ZX-11. Fun and exhilarating. Runs the 1/4 in 10.5, but it's comfortable, a real smoothie on the highway, and feels like a 750. With all the money you save, you can upgrade the tires, brakes and suspension. Plus you will have plenty left for gas. You can thank me later.

Ok... So i spend the last 48 researching bikes and getting feedback. The best feedback i have recieved were from freinds of freinds who all know me well and were at one point in similar situations. I think my bike is going to be a 00-02 Honda CBR 929 RR. Tame and nimble with a ton of power.. comfortable on the highway and lots of parts at reasonalble prices, Plus ive seen several in my price range How about some feedback on this one

I'd go with an 00-03 600. Cheaper and milder. That's just me though...

Tame, adj. 1. changed from the wild or savage state; 2. tractable, docile, or submissive. That doesn't describe the 929. Get ham-fisted with the 929 and it will be sideways in the blink of an eye. I assume your friends are under 50 and don't know about older bikes. Almost every sport bike made in the last five years has gotten smaller, lighter, and peaker. Good if you only ride on a race track, but not much fun on the street. I would still get an older bike with a broad power curve.

I have made the mistake before, buying something less thinking ill upgrade and never did. ex. condos, several cars, sever superchargers, several computers, tv's cell phones, etc etc.... Each time i kicked my self in the ass for doing it a month later. I dont want to make the same mistake

well as for the 929 goes, not a bad choice. MY buddy had one and he definitely liked it. And they are very inexpensive for a bigger bike. :luck: It sounds like you have some experience under your belt. Lets hope so because thats a big bike. My friend that has one has been riding for 10 years (mostly 600cc bikes) and got his hands on this, and definitely had to keep himself in check. He kept saying, "dont get a liter bike until you have some experience under your belt, cause this thing has b@lls." Keep the rubber side down man :dthumb:

Thanks for all the feedback folks. I am 28 years old. Im not gonna sit here and tell you that Im so tough that I can handle all the power in the world, but i can definalty tell you I can not handle a shortage of it. I figure its better to have more on tap in case i need it. after all thats what its all about....now some one find me a 929 rr in titanium/ black

Monster, first of all :welcome: . Let me tell you your probly not gonna run out of power on 600. The 6 will handle better than the bigger bike, be more nimble, and lighter. The 929 will beat the 6 in top speed and flat out acceration. But a 600 will easily keep up and IS NOT a beginner bike either. Even that 93 1100 you were talking about is no joke either. That thing will move faster than you will EVER need it too. Trust me. I have a 92 GSXR 750 and while slower compared to new bikes, it still is rediculously fast. Do your research and make a wise choice. We dont like to see friends wind up dead.

They just seem to under power their bikes from the factory. Then you have to spend a little bit to keep up with Kaw, Zuk and Yamers. The F2 and F3's I've owned were some of the best bikes ever for their time. The 929 is very fast and can be made faster. Still not a Gixxer 1000 or ZX10. The suspension also sucks on the 929. :sorry: :2cents:

Well with the age of 28 you're on the tipping point... not a punk kid and not old...so you should be able to handle not wrapping the wrist with the lack of expierence... no offense to anybody... you know what I'm trying to say... Have you tried EBay in your search for the bike?

Yeah, i found a couple of ebay, and a couple at a local stealership. There are a TON of scams on ebay. they have all been emailing me. Im also looking at an 2000 R1 with 7K miles what do you think of that

I see 2000-2001 929 for like 3800 usually in AZ cycletrader, and this market is just rediculously expensive most of the time. :luck: keep your BS filter on HIGH when shopping eBay.

Monster....the Gixxer 750 is the best of both worlds. The power similar to a liter bike and the nimbleness similar to a 600. But, everyone's got a gixxer, especially the blue and white (which is my fav, but way too many on the road.) :luck:

With the few years between them... they are going to be very comparable. I would need to know the colors... If the R1 is the Raven or the silver...then it is it for sure.

Congrads!!! On the pipe... the big question is "What do you want to get out of it?" More power? More sound?

Well, I come from big cube motors, and i have never seen a muffler alone give any real gains. So I guess I am going for a good aggresive sound with out being annoying or resinating

So I guess I am going for a good aggresive sound with out being annoying or resinating Dude first of all Congrats on the bike!!! Second of all, I noticed that the Yosh pipes have a lower tone than most, which I like. Also, they are not very loud. I plan to get a Yosh Can after I get a new leather jacket. also, sport rider conducted a sound test for different pipes. I know each bike sounds different, but you will get a good foundation of each can's sound.
