the noticealbe difference between the LE and the SE are the things that say OHLINS on them. OH, OK... I spoke with a salesman at the local shop here and he led me to believe the only YELLOW bikes would be the 50th ANN. which were the limited edition bikes- and only available with the R1. So i guess he had it wrong-? If i understand correctly there will be an available R1 in yellow that is not the LE...? The LE offering OHLINS shocks as one major upgrade.

JK_DILLA

the salesmen at the dealers are sometimes foggy about the things they sell. I once had to do some convincing that the Kawi 650R was not a four. Anywhoo...The 50th Anny paint (SE) comes on the R1 and R6. The LE is an SE with OHLINS suspension, light weight rims, and "tweaks".

Besides the Ohlins bits, the LE also has Marchesini wheels, a slipper clutch, and an extra $8k on the price tag. They also sold out almost immediately, so if you don't have one on order - good luck. Personally, I think the stock black wheels with the yellow stripe look better than the gold colored Marchesini's... I forgot to bring my camera to work today...maybe one day next week. Larry

Doesn't it have more power also? (like it needs any more) My understanding is that the motor is identical except for the clutch. I think the R1 got some minor upgrades in general but that applies to all versions. My sales manager is an R1 fanatic, I'll ask him about any other differences. Larry

The LE is the R1 with the ohlins the se in the pis is mine and it is an SE . Welcome to the board. I've not heard it called the SE, Jeeps first post mentioned it was "limited" so I thought he was talking about the LE, which it obviously is not. The 50th Anniversary paint job is extremely sweet looking but it's not "limited" like the number of LE's that were sold. Don't take it personally, I was just pointing out the obvious. Larry

The wheels are forged aluminum Marchesini's not the magnesium ones (NO DOT/NO JIL) But I got a spare set of the real McCoys with brand new Dunlops mounted up if some one wants to send me a demo... There is also a Factory Race Kit for the engine available seperatly.

The plain YZF-R1 in 50th anniversary colors does exist. Mine is 226 miles new. So far I have only been able to find 3 things different for your 8k dollars on the LE. It has stock wheels (black with yellow pin stripe, not gold), stock suspension front and rear, and no lap timer using the starter button. It does have the slipper clutch and the longer swingarm. This color scheme made me get back on motorcycles after 12 years of thinking that I had them out of my system. As soon as I get a nice day here I will take pictures and post them. You really need to see the pearl flake in the yellow when it is in the sun.
