Marsolais 01-06-2006, 01:20 PM I had a member pm me with a weapon question and it got me thinking.
1) I wish I was back in the states with my weapons.
2) What does everyone use for personal/home protection.
I was on an SRT (Speacial reaction team) for a couple years and this is what I found these worked great. I don't have a picture of my Kimber ultra carry but that is what I used for personal protection.

olbapablo 01-06-2006, 02:14 PM I have a Kimber TLE RL, HK USP.45, HK USP Compact 9mm, Glock 17, and yesterday i picked up my brand new Sig P226 9mm (one of the last we're gonna see with the U serial code which means the frame was made in Germany).
I also have an AR 15 with a 16" heavy Hbar upper and a bunch of mods, Benelli M1 Super 90 (With Heckler and Koch on it, it's old), and a few .22's
For home defense i usually use the USP .45, i compete with that one so i'm most comfortable with it. it sits by my bead with a UTL, haha
Now i think i'm goign to use the Sig. i don't have a CCW, or else i'd probably buy a HK P2000 or a Sig P229 for carry.
i have pictures at home... hmm...

Gas Man 01-06-2006, 02:26 PM Well I live in a condo. So if I have to shoot someone I don't want it to go thru them and then the wall into my neighbors residence. So anti-pistol. Plus I want the wife to be able to get a good shot even in the dark without her contacts in. So I got a simple youth 20 gauge shotgun. Plus I figure the racking noise will scare away most!

jeeps84 01-06-2006, 11:28 PM It depends mostly what room I'm in when needed. I keep an assortment of pistols, rifles and shotguns not to far away at any time.
My personal favorite is the little North American Arms 22 that I carry all the time.

Yeah... with buck shot in it... you really can't miss... just point in the general direction and pull the trigger! Plus you got 4 or 5 shots available!

I looked at these a few times, I just can't bring myself to buy one. I just don't think I'd ever use it. I take my .380 to the range all the time, but that little .22 isn't something I'd want to go to the range with.

If you're going to be using that you will be to close to aim anyways. During my homicide investigation course they said that most bad guys were shot with a .22.

.22 isn't my caliper of choice anyway.

Ya I'm a tactical kind of guy. Nothing but a .45. I can't shot a .380 .40 or .44. But I can dot the eye on a flea's ass at 25 yards. 9mm doesn't have the knock down power that I like. :dthumb:

I shot a Sig 357 last month, that thing has some kick behind it, compared to the .380 and 9mm

It is defiantly a close range piece and it fits easily in your pocket, belt clip or even as an active belt buckle. Five shots to the gut even with a .22 will slow anybody down.
.22 isn't my caliper of choice anyway.
Mine neither. For the real protection I resort to my model 669 Smith 9mm and Glock 30 .45 cal.
Bandit 6S 01-08-2006, 06:11 AM From what I understand getting shot with a .22 is no picnic. A friend of mine took one in the leg while unjamming an old rifle. He is a big guy and no sissy. He described the pain as someone drilled a hole about 2 inches deep into his leg and slid a lit cigarette in there which continued to burn until he got to the hospital. Granted he wasn't fighting anyone but said he couldn't walk for about a half an hour.

GixxerNHemi 01-16-2006, 04:36 PM how easy is it for you all to get the pistol permits??
Its hard as hell here on long island....and in the city its virtually impossible!
Ive been told it will take me about 6-8 months to get my pistol permit.
So I have a .22 rifle
and a 12-gauge shotgun
and a 30-06
but I keep them all upstate...none of them ever come down to long island with me.

When I got my concealed weapons permit in Kentucky I had to pay and take an 8 hour class to learn all the laws of CCDW. Then a test, then wait for a backgound check to clear, then go to the sherriffs office with my certification and pay for the licence then wait for it to be processed. Over all I think it took 3 weeks for me to recieve it.
From my understanding here in PA...you just go apply for the CCDW permit and they give one to you after the background check is complete. I know they are trying to make it harder to get. I am glad my KY permit is honored here and more states because of the course. PA CCDW permit is not honored in as many states.
R1up0n1 01-16-2006, 05:47 PM Oh and also to find out all the laws in your state on CCDW, and all information on CCDW go to www.packing.org
GixxerNHemi 01-16-2006, 07:40 PM Yea....well I ALWAYS get screwed!!! I live in the hardest state to do ANYTHING!!!! lol
I believe NY does NOT honor a permit from ANY other state....
it only took you 3 weeks!!! NICE
the last person i spoke with (friend of mine) who got his pistol permit here in NY...it took almost 6 months.
jappysRR 01-16-2006, 08:06 PM Taurus .357 and soon to be an ADT system....
TOMMYTOM 01-17-2006, 11:33 AM 1- Remington 870 18" barrell with an extended chamber (7 rounds)
2- Ruger P95
I like to load the 870 with slugs- they transfer more energy to the target. :sadwave: bye bye criminal- no appeals for you. (tax money saved)
I have to admit- even with the weapons- I felt safer when I had my 175 lb. Rottweiller. (died in 03') Dogs are by far the best home defense system.
By the way- I'm not paranoid- I live in the Ghetto. :leaving:
SpeedWerks.com 01-17-2006, 01:13 PM If the doberman and rottweiler fail to make an impression, I have a Sig Sauer P239 9mm. But the dogs seem to do the trick. ;)
