MOTV8 02-02-2006, 11:14 PM I don't like buying a used bike from a stealership, but I stopped by the local one today and found a sweet 2005 ZX12R, black  , not just black, but with silver flake in it    , anyway it's got like 1100 miles. Stock, never down. They list it at $8999. :yikes:
Now, don't get me wrong. I LOVE my 9, just got it looking the way I want too. And to be honest, I'm not even pushing the 9. Its never flinched at anything I've been able to throw at it, but I'm no elbow-dragger if you know what I mean. So I'm not in the market, really. But I'm lusting pretty badly and (fingers crossed, knocking on wood, and killing a virgin chicken) the IRS might give some back this year, so...? :tt: Do I sit and wait, or do I sell my 9 while I still might get good market value (for a mint 2000 w/2100 miles) and buy the 12?
Opinions are like @ssholes...
I'll be interested :readng: any comments from the peanut gallery. :twfrox:
P.S. Also need help devising a scheme to rationalize or slip this past the wife without her really noticing...:help:
marko138 02-03-2006, 05:20 AM As for the wife...just bring it home and try to back your way outta that corner when she notices. Or bust out the "Honey, I've always had that bike" riff. :luck:
Damn, you got a 2000 with 2100 miles? And you don't push it, and you just got it the way you want it? I can't justify the purchase of that when it seems like you don't rid your 9 much and you don't push it much. Spend your tax money on something else.
2FURYUS 02-03-2006, 08:19 AM You only live once....go for it!:dthumb:
I guess the only way you can push your bike is in a straight line. I didn't realize it was slammed like that.
bumblebee 02-03-2006, 08:32 AM you have 2100 miles on a 5 year old bike???:yikes: Maybe you should pull the battery out and bling it up so you can trailer it to the poser shows...:dthumb:

itgirl25 02-03-2006, 12:29 PM i think you should snatch that 12 up before someone else does. and chances are your wife won't notice the different bike, since they are both black. did you ever hear that old joke that if you ask a woman what kind of car she drives she'll say "a red one" (or whatever color it is)? maybe it will be like that for you.

well, some of us don't buy our bike to attempt breaking land speed records. maybe we just enjoy riding it and fixing it up nice. nothing wrong with that, right? :dthumb:

I don't see how people can do that! The guy I am going to buy the R1 from only has 2200 miles on an 03. :wtf: his loss, my gain I guess.

I think if you want it and you can afford it, buy it.

I bought this exact bike (well, an 05 ZX12R) last July. Fun bike. And ride it as much as you want, whether that's 10,000 miles a year or 50. Not all of us have perfect weather all of the time which limits riding (and sometimes I want to ride the Fatboy).

Sorry, I should have said, but I just bought this bike in late August '05. It had 477 miles on it. Paid $5800. The original owner apparently got into some trouble when he finally opened it up at mileage 476, at which point he was clocked at 168 :yikes: somewhere in Texas. He had to park it.
It now has 2100 sunny day miles on it. And yes, some days I drive the 'vette. I'm funny that way.

I found a stock photo of an '04, but it doesn't do the bike justice.

On a sad note, it looks like any surplus dinero will be again poured into the 'vette :cursin: , it needs ANOTHER headlight motor and re-upholstered seats. I'm told this builds character. And there's always the 11 year old's looming orthodontics, picture...a young Austin Powers.
I'm sure I'll be lusting over a used ZX10 next year....
Has your Vette fallen into the high maintenance catagory already??

With the 'vette, its always something. She may run like a scalded dog, but its no Lexus. Squeaks, rattles, leaks...and most every electric motor or switch has failed. Pop-up headlight motors, power antenna's, my power door locks don't work, just got new power window regulators, and now the ac/heat LCD display is out. :disapp:
jeeps84 02-04-2006, 10:08 AM So has this priority bumped the 12 off the list?

Pretty much, financially. I still lust after it...I've ridden a friends mid-90's vintage ZX11, great ergos, great all day sport-touring bike with TONS of power, and I imagine the '05 is light years ahead of that 11. But with my commitment (:bonk: ) to the 'vette and my kids teeth, I'm gonna have to pass. I just thought it was a smokin' deal. And I like smokin' deals!

None of those problems with mine yet (2004). I'm sure I'll sell it before it gets to that point (certainly shortly after).
