United Arab Emirates is the country. My parents live there. It's really nice, they are going to have the biggest building in the world and the biggest mall in the world. They played a tennis game on top the only 6 star hotel in the world not too long ago. It's more liberal than the rest of the middle east, but their liberal is our extreme conservatism.

As an American I think I'll be staying waaaaaaay outta the middle east, thank you. And this mall...is this the one with the indoor ski slopes? That is bad ass.

The ski slope is a seperate building all to it's own. This place is really safe for Americans. It's quickly running out of oil and learning that it needs another form of income. That income is tourists and they are not wanting to alienate the west. I think it is a top 5 European vacation spot now as well. It's a pretty place and you are missing out by staying completely out of the middle east.

Thanks, Gas, I wasnt sure where to put it.. Yeah, interesting place this, and a lot safer than your average American city. As for the developments, very interesting. Yeah, the ski slope is one, part of a mall, but the biggest mall of the middle east (1 km square) is still under construction. Will feature the largest acrylic panel in its aquarium, biggest this, biggest that.. Two manmade islands (Palm-shaped), with a third one just starting.. Number of islands offshore made, in the shape of the world.. They're trying very hard to work on their image. And as far as 'I would not go to the middle east' - the middle east is big - if there are fights in New York, does it bother you in LA? Almost same sort of distances - all troubles are in the north of the ME - Iraq and Israel areas, which are a few thousand km from here.

Freak... so that is the place where they are putting those BIG BIG $$$$ houses in the "world" island... I've heard of that!

Yup, that's the place. Not ready yet - been there a few times with boat, but officially not allowed yet. There is one house there, think it belongs to one of the local bigshots. But yeah, need a decent sized wallet that wont fit in your backpocket to afford one of those places.

I don't foresee any vacations in that area at all.:sorry:

I know exactly what hotel you're talking about. it's the one that looks like a sail. You're parents must have some scratch. it costs 150 bucks just to tour the hotel.

Dubai is crazy I was there this past summer. You have never seen $$$ like they have over there. Its the Vegas of the middle east
