Gas Man 02-24-2006, 02:22 PM I seen Pickle post this on another forum.
Odyssey Battery (http://www.odysseyfactory.com/default.htm)
Finally a company to give me something else than the crap that YUASA puts out!!!
See just some of the advantages of these...
Guaranteed longer service life
With a an eight to twelve year design life (float) and a three to ten year service life, ODYSSEY saves you time and money because you do not have to replace the battery as often. ODYSSEY is warranted against factory defects for two full years in Powersports or three full years in automotive, commercial and heavy-duty marine applications.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Superior cranking and fast charge capability The 5 second cranking power of ODYSSEY batteries is double to triple that of equally sized conventional batteries, even when the temperature is as low as - 40°C (-40°F). Also, with simple constant voltage charging (alternator or independent charger), there is no limitation on the inrush current, so the user is assured of fast charge recovery.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mounting flexibility The ODYSSEY battery may be installed on its sides at any angle without sacrificing any performance attributes. There is no fear of any acid spillage as ODYSSEY recycles the internal gas during operation or charging. The sealed design of the ODYSSEY eliminates the need for an acid vent tube; eliminating the fear of acid burns or damage to expensive chrome or paint.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Superior vibration resistance ODYSSEY batteries are of military grade and have endured rigorous tests that demonstrate their overall ruggedness and exceptional tolerance of mechanical abuse.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ready out of the box ODYSSEY batteries are shipped fully charged. If ODYSSEY’S voltage is 12.65V or greater simply install the battery in your vehicle and you are ready to go! If below 12.65V, boost charge following the instructions in the ODYSSEY Owner’s Manual and/or Technical Manual.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Worry-free shipping Owing to the drycell design, the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) has classified the ODYSSEY battery as a nonspillable, so it may be shipped worry-free by Express Service or by air.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Longer storage life Unlike conventional batteries that need to be recharged every six to twelve weeks the ODYSSEY battery, when fully charged, can be stored for up to 2 years at 25°C (77°F). Simply recharge and ODYSSEY is returned to full power. At lower temperatures, storage times will be even longer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deep discharge recovery Should ODYSSEY become deeply discharged, simply recharge following instructions in the ODYSSEY Owner's Manual.
I'm excited like... :willy:
Wockman 02-24-2006, 03:16 PM I've had pretty good luck with YUASA batteries. But those Odyssey ones look great.
pickle.of.doom 02-24-2006, 07:02 PM Yeah, check out the PC310, that is the big daddy I want to get.
rider76 02-24-2006, 07:03 PM have you had/ seen one Gman? just wondering if anyone has tried one out?
pickle.of.doom 02-24-2006, 07:05 PM Rev from the WOS board has one, says it kicks ass. These are guaranteed for 3 years, but the expected service life is 8-12. Check out the new stuff section in this months PB magazine for a little blurb on it as well. The pc310 requires altering your battery cable ends.
R1up0n1 02-24-2006, 09:03 PM I have dealers all around me so I might have to go check this battery out if mine goes out soon. :D
Gas Man 02-25-2006, 09:47 AM No I haven't... but I HATED  YUASA!! They make junk!! I always had problems with their batteries... Just suck! I have always wanted a sealed battery for a MC... like even a gel or somin...
R1up0n1 02-25-2006, 10:19 AM No I haven't... but I HATED  YUASA!! They make junk!! I always had problems with their batteries... Just suck! I have always wanted a sealed battery for a MC... like even a gel or somin...
My first battery in the SV650 was a YUASA and when it went it really went! It didn't give me any warning when it died....just click click click, and wouldn't hold a charge from then on out.:cursin:
Gas Man 02-25-2006, 10:23 AM Yep...typical YUASA crap!
jeeps84 02-25-2006, 11:58 AM No I haven't... but I HATED  YUASA!! They make junk!! I always had problems with their batteries... Just suck! I have always wanted a sealed battery for a MC... like even a gel or somin...
Sad part about it, Yusa are better than most other brands and probably make most others as well.
Gas Man 02-25-2006, 03:58 PM Yeah they make most of the small bats out there even though they may have a different tag on it... but they still suck.. I had a Interstate in my 9R once and it didn't do any better cause it was made by YUASA!
Gas Man 03-15-2006, 10:08 AM BUMP! :dthumb:
marko138 03-15-2006, 10:25 AM Whats the $$ on one of those?
Gas Man 03-15-2006, 10:31 AM Expensive... you can find out the cost of yours if you do some clicking..
marko138 03-15-2006, 10:41 AM Well F**K that. I'm not made of money. Back to the old pile of crap Interstate.
ebbs15 03-15-2006, 10:42 AM so how much did they list them as Marko?
ShanMan14 03-15-2006, 10:42 AM Well, my experience with Yuasa has been favorable. My current battery replaced in 2002 is still running and it's been discharged, recharged over and over. That and it's been subject to all kinds of temps from desert heat of 105+ to freezing cold and it still takes a charge.
Those are facts, not my opinion.
marko138 03-15-2006, 10:43 AM Good question. I read 'expensive' and didn't bother.
marko138 03-15-2006, 10:44 AM Stand by. I'm looking.
marko138 03-15-2006, 10:47 AM $173.95:cursin:
Forget it. I'll save $125 bills and replace it every couple years. I can throw down that kind of roll.

:jd: uh... yeah I'm with you:leaving:
Gas Man 03-15-2006, 10:51 AM Yeah... I've replaced mine with a Yuasa and its been crap within a year. I should be able to let my bike sit for over a week and not have to worry about it needing to be jumped!
Gas Man 03-15-2006, 10:52 AM Well...nuttin like a dead battery to ruin your day....that's all I'll say!
Gas Man 03-15-2006, 10:54 AM I moved those last posts over to this thread sense its about these batteries anyway!

I wonder if you had a short somewhere?! NO battery no battery should drain that quick no matter how sh*tty. Is the guy that bought your bike still arround here? wonder if he's still having trouble with that?
marko138 03-15-2006, 11:01 AM Yeah bro...a week? :yikes: That's whack.
Gas Man 03-15-2006, 06:42 PM Well I'm not sure... it may have been my radar detector but that's still WHACKED!
ebbs15 03-15-2006, 06:46 PM Well I'm not sure... it may have been my radar detector but that's still WHACKED!
yeah it is... but if it was a short it'd kill even the strongest battery... did you ever test the battery on the bike with a meter?
Gas Man 03-15-2006, 07:04 PM Nope but the dealer did and said it was the detector... oh well... I can't do anything about it now!
ebbs15 03-15-2006, 07:06 PM Nope but the dealer did and said it was the detector... oh well... I can't do anything about it now!
then why you blame'n the battery if they said it was the detector?:bash:

Gas Man 03-15-2006, 08:09 PM not too much... I just called him the other day and haven't got a call back... who knows....

Hey guys.. screw you!!
I don't know...I would unplug it and it really didn't seem like it would last long either... so I use to always plug it in to the tender just for cause... just not to have to deal with it!
jeeps84 03-16-2006, 05:23 PM That's one way and really what the tender was built for.
Gas Man 03-16-2006, 06:26 PM Yep... I had the hard wire disconnect installed on the bike... so it was as easy as pie!
jeeps84 03-17-2006, 12:13 AM Yep... I had the hard wire disconnect installed on the bike... so it was as easy as pie!
Quick disconnect is the only way. PITA to take seats off all the time.

Atlantasmittie84 12-04-2007, 09:26 PM Yeah. $173 is a little much for my bike.
Would a basic "Pep Boys" motorcycle battery be decent?
Or what other brands are out there for less than $100

Auto Zone has one that fit my Suzuki exactly for $36. One of those ones where you add the acid and charge it up for 24 hours. They didn't have one for my Honda, but the Suzuki one was the same except the overflow was on the wrong side. I got another Suzuki one, put a long tube on the overflow, and used it in the Honda.
