Ninja 650r handlebar

I went to a shop, in MS, and got to look and sit on one. I like it, but I am not a big fan of the handlebars. It looks too much like a bicycle, just a bent bar. I was wondering, if I get one, is there anyone out there that makes a replacement?

Good question. Did you ask the dealer? This year is the bikes introductory year and custom/aftermarket parts are limited. Not sure what the forks look like. You might be able to throw some clip-ons on there but not sure. Or are you just talking about a better looking bar, but keep the height the same? Shot in the dark...check Ebay.

a similar sized renthal bar will do. I was looking for similar options for my SV naked. i had a good link but its gone and i cant find it, i'll look though. As for clip-ons, i dont think they will clear the fairing.

I'm sure there is no reason you couldn't put a set of clip on's..on the bike!

Clip-ons might work if you drop the forks in the triples and mount them on top. This will change the steering geometry quite a bit and also the clearance from the front fender to the lower pieces on the front end and full compression so be careful. I just put these on my Bandit http://www.suburban-machinery.com/sv650.htm and I like them alot. Pricey if you have to buy new(I got them used).

The only problem would be finding some with clamps small enough to fit those tiny fork tubes.

Gas Man
03-12-2006, 11:14 PM
Well how small are they?

jeeps84
03-12-2006, 11:15 PM

IDK the dimensions but they are small. Ok. I looked Front Suspension: 41mm Hydraulic Telescopic Fork And I can't say I know the dimensions on my old 9R tubes either... Your bike has Suspension, front 46mm cartridge fork

Ok. I looked Front Suspension: 41mm Hydraulic Telescopic Fork same as an SV. There are alot of clip ons for 41mm.

JK...but clip ons that have a rise to them?

cmon now. theres no reason you cant change the bicycle bars off there. if you want clip ons, your gonna have to strip her down to naked(MMMmm). otherwise you could fit some other bars, you could get tag mounts thru your tripple, or even get a dif. tripple. I'm looking into one for my 929 from a co. called LSL. might want to try that. those new bikes are sweet tho. im going to sit on one tomorrow dammit..they didnt have her on the showroom floor today, but at least someone showed me. on a sidenote, theres also a sweet 919 decked out in someones camo gear. like literally cut up clothes with pockeets on the bike. its sweet!

JK...but clip ons that have a rise to them? The aftermarket riser bars might work from an SV. I still don't know if it would be high enough to get away from that tight fairing.

Gas Man
03-14-2006, 10:54 AM
Well you might be able to adjust the angle to the rider to help with that as well...

My SV had similar bars, and they hurt my wrists like nobody's business. So, I bought drag bars. They have 0 rise, and very little pull-back. Much better! Now my riding position is forward, where I like it. See the blue SV650 on my blog: http://jdtemple.blogspot.com

How about linking to the image directly? I doubt that works. I put it in down below. You can go all the way to a drag bar and still clear the fairing, but no clip-ons without major cutting or race bodywork. I haven't heard of anyone trying the convertibar risers yet, but I'm sure they'd work if you wanted riser clip-ons.

THX for the input.:dthumb: Your the only one here with any experience with theses bikes. There just aren't that many of them out on the road yet, it's still a new model and Kawasaki didn't make very many of them for this first run. Give it a year or two and they'll be like locusts!!! Woodcraft finally releases rearsets for the bike, I think I got the first set! http://www.motospecialties.com/store.asp?store=ninja650shop&level=type&type=Foot%20Controls
