Nice for now. :luck:
CaRJoE9229 08-10-2006, 08:52 PM I dont get it. Im 19 and just starting out. Im not spending more the 1500 and nothing above like a 94 while others have to get the 06 right off the bat. What will happen when u dump the first time. Is there any vetram riders here who have never dumped the bike in the bike life
justpucky 08-10-2006, 09:01 PM They will dump, and they will learn. If they have the sliders on, they may not have any serious repairs, they may be blowing alot of money. It's all a factor of what you want, what is comfortable, and what you're willing to spend.
You're doing the smart thing, don't feel pressured to start with any thing other than your plan. Once you're comfortable on the bike, you can think of an upgrade, or just aftermarket mods.
Some people are stubborn, or don't have the mechanical knowledge to start with an older / used bike. Do what is right for you. :2cents:
CaRJoE9229 08-10-2006, 09:12 PM oh ill ride this bike for probably 2 years and jump up to something nicer but im trying to learn

I was surprised to see no significant disparaging comments but I've lost touch with the degree of commentary allowed here. You have two significant advantages relative to such riders:
1) You won't be as likely to crash and kill yourself in a moment of surprise
2) You will learn far faster because of 1
This ignores the sheer cost factor.
If you ask any really good racer what they do when getting onto a track that's new to them, the answer almost invariably is they go around it a few times in second gear to learn the track and lines. By having something that is less potent you are effectively doing the same thing. Throttle and brake control are much simpler on 500s and 90's 600s (aka most bikes under 100rwhp).

Don't worry about everyone else. You're doing it right. You will be rewarded in your skills faster than someone with a beast right off the bat. Ask questions...we'll help.
CaRJoE9229 08-12-2006, 10:25 PM so i hade the bike for about 18 hours and i was turning on my block which is dirt right now because they are redoing it, and the bike kicked out under me and skid breaking the blinker and misc other cosmetic problems. Still running fine but im going to bondo and such which i was going to do anyway because it needed some body work but now its even more practice. Im somewhat ok, I just got home and i was real excited, i had shorts and a t-shirt on (Idiot i know) i was just going to take it down and turn around just to ease the want to ride a little. I had my new helmet, which was fine because i was only doing 10 and i didnt roll and hit my head or anythign just slide for about 10-15 ft. But i got scraped up pretty good. I was going to buy all my gear earlier that day but i found out after my safty course i get 10% off everything so i wanted to save like 50 bucks but im in some pain. I feal so stupid and every noob like me out there just be careful and if u dont have gear yet wear jeans or long clothing with boots and gloves because it hurts alot to fall especially on rocks like i did. I have never rode before and i got a quick lesson from the guy i bought it from but the rest was teaching myself. I pushed the rear brake to hard which locked. I did practice taking off in the garage for about 10-15 and when i got that down i took it real slow and around the block. But then i got cocky i belive when i got home and yeah. So just thought i would share this story with any other noobs who are spending 7k+ on their bikes be very careful because id say 99% of bikers fall at some point and if the stat could go higher it would for noobs..

Not many would actually admit to all that. You learned a valuable lesson with out serious injury to you or damage to the bike. Glad you survived and now know better.
CaRJoE9229 08-13-2006, 08:36 AM Truw PS how do you take out the turn signals, what im doind is bondo but im not replacing or painting till i get more practice, i will just patch up whatever and then paint it in a few weeks when i have more confidence but since i destroyed the turn signal i need to knmow how to get the off, front and rear

You did what most newbs do. You took 'er down. Hopefully this will be the last time. But don't count on it. You know understand why we preach wearing gear on the forum. I went down once. I was wearing gear and I was fine. Now make sure you wear it EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU START YOUR BIKE. Whether thats a mile long trip or a 100 mile trip. You never know what will happen.

I've been looking for an older/cheap bike too. I think you have a FZR, right? I was looking at a '96 YZF that had been dropped and needed a new right fairing and I was discouraged, but my friend has the same exact bike (dark purple with YZF lettered down the side) and he told me you can buy the fairing in seperate pieces for a couple hundred and they come factory painted. He's had to do it on his and he said it was pretty cheap and easy. Probably the same for your bike. Might be worth looking in to. Fiberglass Bondo sucks!! I tried using it on the front bumper of my Mustang and it sets so quick and is impossible to sand. Just a thought. Definately hear you about going and buying a new R1 as a first bike. There hot, but what's the advantage of being able to go that fast when your still learning how to ride?:readng:
