2006 XB12Scg

I was browsing around the Buell.com (http://www.buell.com/en_us/home.asp) site and was looking at the new XB12 (http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes_gear/lightning/xb12scg/index.asp)... pretty nice. I love the Valencia Orange Translucid airbox cover (where you would think the "gas tank" would be) just looks so cool! :drool: :dthumb: But I checked the specs on this beast (http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes_gear/bikespecs.asp?bike=xb12scg)... I was surprised by a few of them... First for only $10,495 MSRP you get alot. 103hp & 84 torque with only 395 dry weight. I have rode last years XB12 and it was a blast to ride. Not as fast as many other sportbikes but very fun! What do you guys think of them? Yeah. Buells are belt driven.

I'll tell you what,I'm goin to seriously look into one of those when I pay off the ZZR. I was checkin out a Ulysses at a local H.D. shop and theres some real nice features on these bikes!!! That one there is awesome! It'd be somthin different than the sportbike.Upright position,v-twin,belt drive,perimeter brakes,and the performance of a sport!

I would never recommend a Buell for a newbie.:nonod: The wheel base is very short. The rake is steep and they cut like a knife in the corners. It constantly gives me the filling that the front is going to wash at the least little mistake. Luckily, they have gobs of torque that an experienced rider can use to gain some confidence powering through a corner. Ok, That was my rant for the night. Did I say its not beginner friendly?

not that anyone would launch a buell but how do they stand up to such a shock? Current belt technology is very strong, in most cases they last longer than a chain and are at least as strong. The only breakage I have heard of from a launch (since the 03 belts) was on a bike with a 50hp shot of nitros... and the belt didn't snap, it just shaved the teeth in a spot. Why wouldn't someone launch a buell? They are built for abuse.

Actually i had a belt snap on my XB12R in a stand up wheelie... luckinly i didn't blow the fork seals.. but the jaws dropped on the parts staff at the dealership when i brought the belt inside... apparently according to the staff the belts are impregnated with kevlar and are supposed to be invisible to abuse.. i guess they're not. but i still would stick with belt driven anyday, no grease, no rust, and no sound, just the roar of the v-twin!

Lastnight I decided to switch bikes for a bit with my friend that has the 1200. I have a k6 gsxr600. It was a fun bike and the belt was soo different but it's soo smooth. Now I wish my 600 had some more power....:cry: we'll see what gearing it -1/+2 does to it, oherwise I'm sellin it for something a little bigger.

Its hard to compete with the torque of the twins. The new gearing will wake up the Gixxer 6 but you will notice a drop in top speed if you run it that fast. If top speed isn't important to you, you'll be happy with the choice in gearing.

I don't see myself goin over 140mph so I don't think it'll be a huge problem, I heard it onlly drops your top speed by about 20 give or take some. If it's what I have to do to get a little more torque out of it so be it...I'll live

Starry... you just got the bite of a v-twin. I suggest either a Buell, a RC51 (if you candle handle that much...no offense), or a SV650 or 1000.

I would love to have a Buell. I'm actually considering buying my "wife" one for her birthday this year.

I am interested in test driving all of those and see what I like... I live in NY and this week is Americade up in lake george which is 2hrs from me so maybe I'll luck out and they'll have something to test out

Lowbudget... I was thinking of doing the same before my most recent transition... now I'm thinking old school bobber.

yeah it's kid of like buying her a fishing pole..........you know I'll get more use out of it than she does. That's the way it was when I bought her a four-wheeler of her own. I have a KFX 400 (racer/stunter). I er I me "we" decided that we needed a 4x4 also so I bought me I mean her one. To date she may have put 10 miles on it. I've put all the rest on it. You know how it is. You gotta keep the oil circulated and the tires from getting flat spots.

Yeah that's it... flat spots on tires are bad!
