Lost is a tv show for the uneducated. Every show is the exact same thing, it tricks you into thinking you are going to find out something about the plot of the show only to throw another curve ball. It's the ultimate form of TV addiction, you will never find out anything and will just keep having questions about the plot piled on to make you watch more episodes. It isn't even that good of a show, it's just morons can't figure out that the whole existence of the show is to make you watch it more. Smart people turn that sh*t off. Basically you will see a lot of fat housewives watching it and make it get good ratings.

Basically you will see a lot of fat housewives watching it and make it get good ratings. Isn't the existence of any show to get you to watch more? In fact, it's arguable that the purpose of any program is get people to watch commercials (pay networks aside). Think about it... I believe it was Edward R. Murrow that formulated that theory. Regardless, I don't consider myself a moron because I'm entertained by a story. I'd argue that you don't learn anything week to week, but the popular show have always brought up more questions than answers: Sopranos for one. Oh yeah, I'm not a fat housewife either. :bonk:

Think about it... I believe it was Edward R. Murrow that formulated that theory. [QUOTE] Not every program, the fortunate few wish to inform the viewer. I don't watch much TV at all though. Usually if I do, it is because my girlfriend makes me. I end up getting bored and getting on the comp to surf. TV rots the mind. As for commercials, I get rid of those. I use my TV tuner card on my comp to record anything of value, mostly history/discovery channel programs, and set it to not record commercials.

Not to get too philisophical here, but how many free not-for-profit television networks exist other than PBS? That is, those that seek to inform and nothing else; devoid of commercials. While it's an altruistic thought that the History Channel seeks to inform us, or the Discovery Channel seeks to educate us, the fact of the matter is these channels are owned by networks. Networks exist to make money. Money is made by selling advertising. The higher the viewership, the more ad dollars the network can command, see: Superbowl. Some networks air fiction, some documentaries, some music videos, some cartoons etc. The entire point of the Nielsen Ratings system is to estimate viewership for advertisement rates. It's no different than a magazine publishing their circulation (which they must by law) or a website posting the traffic details. It all comes back to our capitalist economy and earning money. As far as commercials are concerned, I have TiVO so I haven't watched a commercial in years.

I have had a tv tuner card years before TiVo even existed. I got a hi def card, so I don't lose any quality when I run my SLI PCI-E graphics cards to my Plasma HDTV. I forgot about sports, I do watch a lot of sports on TV, especially football hence why I got a HD.

Lost is not a show for 'stupid people'. The style of story telling is typical of J. J. Abrams and simply because you do not enjoy his unconventional style doesn't mean it's simply their to make you watch it more. Alias is an even more extreme example of his style. Lost is more tame because he hasn't really been working on this season. But normally he reveals information slowly and tends to end each episode before a traditional episode would, then start each one where it would normally end. His shows are among the few that actually DO go somewhere. That's what I actually what I like about him. I was at a little talk with the creators of 24 at the Director's Guild after the first season aired and one of the funniest parts about it was them talking about how they made the story up as they went along. Even after they had created 20 episodes they still weren't sure how it would end. But Abrams actually has a plan for things before they happen and can evidence that fact. I think it makes for much more compelling and quality television. And also, Lost fans generally aren't fat hosuewives. It's not their key demographic.

I went into Best Buy the other day and saw a DVD set for the complete series of some show that didn't even last one season. I forget it's name right now, I will post it if I remember.

FWIW I live and breathe hi-tech all day, it's my paying job. ;) Unfortunately the technology that is the "coolest" isn't always the easiest. Since I have to make it easy for my wife to understand, the aforementioned TV tuner card is simply not an option for me. We learned some things tonight. :yikes: [Contrary to prior allegations] The biggest revelation is that Henry Gale is not Henry Gale. This episode did a good job with him earning your trust helping Locke, then Sayid returns with proof he is NOT Gale. Good stuff, I'm looking forward to next week.
