Interstate or Service Road?

No Worries

Of the 3K miles I rode this winter, I think about 10 miles were on the Interstate. And that was because the service road was interrupted by a Buffalo Preserve and I had to go on the highway. They build these great interstates that go through the mountains or they just blast the mountains out of the way. Makes for time-saving straight roads that mega-SUV drivers just love. But then they build these terrible service roads that go through canyons, switchback up and down mountains, and have no traffic. When I take these service roads and see another rider coming the opposite way, I can see the grin even when they're wearing a helmet.

Those are the best roads to ride...Same idea as the Dragon at Deals Gap. A road that is famous to all those who ride bikes or drive sports cars.. but probably just as famous for the tractor trailers that dare to try and tame the dragon on 18 wheels and fail :yikes: Those service roads are great, virtually no one but fun seekers like us dare to give them a shot..and once you do, you find urself looking for every possible avenue that isnt a highway to get from point A to point B  You definately have to watch out for those stray trucks, or Mr. & Mrs. John Q. Tourist in their motorhome who will cut those corners short every time and get THIS close to taking us out with them
