Gr1n1n 04-05-2006, 04:46 PM Whats going on everyone, I just wanted to post the standard "Hello my name is..." thread on here. I stumbled upon the forum by googling for sportbike forums, and like everyone else has noticed, its the best one by far! Good work everyone!
Anyhow, a little about myself... My names Chris, I live down in Miami, where riding motorcycles on the street is like attempted suicide.... People don't know how to drive cars with other cars around them, and they sure as **** don't see motorcyclists.... but this didn't stop me from taking the MSF program, and convicing my pops to do it with me.
We finished it up this past weekend, and now we're both eager to find some nice places for a little rental cruise... my dads looking to get a cruiser, and well, I won't be able to afford a bike for at least another year... but until then, I still plan on riding as much as I can.
I'm looking to eventually get a 600 or 750 for track use, I love Motorcycle racing, and just can't wait until my skills are enough to get myself out their on the track.
I'd also like to thank all the members who submitted pictures into the "Bikes and Babes" section of the gallery.... that place is the ****! I've been browsing the board and going through it for a little bit now.... and I'm currently stuck staring at this one:

Anyhow, I'm out of here, but I plan on being a regular!
Have a good one everybody.

fnfalman 04-06-2006, 11:26 AM Welcome!!! Sounds like you and your dad are getting a good start. The only thing suck about Florida and Miami is that there are no twisties to ride in.
As far as taking to the track, actually the sooner you do the better. Give yourself a few months to get used to riding motorcycles. Get the basics down and then hit the track. Don't worry. The track days people won't let a novice to go out and kill himself. As a novice rider/1st timer on the track, you'll have to attend a mandatory track riding course or two (costs more on top of the track day, naturally) where you will be taught the finer points of sport riding.
If you have the cash to start early, that's the more better before you pick up bad habits and techniques from your homeys.
Gr1n1n 04-06-2006, 11:33 AM Thanks for the tips fnfalman.
Surprisingly, I don't have any friends that ride... I have just always loved motorcycles and motorcycle racing, and decided I wanted to ride, for fun, and possibly further down the road for sport too. I have no one to learn any bad habbits from... and the MSF program was wonderful. The same people who taught the class also have private sessions, and an intermediate as well as an advanced rider instruction class. As I gain experience, free time, and money, I will work my way up... but I agree to not let myself learn any bad habbits. I think I'm on the right track, and I look forward to the day when I can go out on my own 600 and drag some knees out there.... but it will be a while...
Also, when I finish school, I'm considering moving out to California... where I hear the twisties are plentiful, and there are much better tracks than Homestead. I will also get paid more for what I do... but we'll see what happens... Its still early in my life/career.
Thanks for the words of wisdom.... (shall we get another laugh out of me using wisdom?) ;)
fnfalman 04-06-2006, 11:45 AM Southern California and San Francisco Bay area are motorcycle heavens. Great twisties and great tracks with amenable weather that you can ride year round in.
Motorcycling, especially sport riding, is not something that one can master in one day. So you have the right attitude. Be patient and be methodical in your riding skills and experiences. Smooth is fast. A bike doesn't make you go fast. You make the bike go fast.
Sport riding is an art and a science at the same time. It's a science because there are techniques on how to properly do things. It's art because once you learn the technique, you have to apply it yourself and some people are more gifted than others. There are lots of good riding schools out there for the taking. Unfortunately they are expensive schools, but you do get what you pay for: California Superbike School by Keith Code, CLASS by Reg Priedmore, Freddie Spencer's High Performance Riding School, these are the more well known schools. Plus the local track day organizations also have their own instruction courses as well.
I always have a good laugh when somebody tells me that they're ready for a liter bike after six months of riding. Usually these types of squids don't listen anyway. They're too busy twisting the throttle and feel the POWWAH while hauling ass down a straight line. They have no concepts of what sport riding is like. They go to the canyons and get passed by minivans, so they go back to the freeways and Feel The Powwah!!!
Gr1n1n 04-06-2006, 11:52 AM Haha... I totally understand. I love motorsports, especially road racing, so the fastest way around a track is always the smoothest line available.... Not drifting the rear tire out and sliding all over the place (though the motoGP guys do it because it just looks sooo cool haha)
Luckily for me, money is tight right now. Which will prevent me from jumping ahead of myself... but I'm looking forward to riding. I was also considering Schwantz's racing school up at Road Atlanta since it is close by, and I kind of enjoy Atlanta's atmosphere. Nice place to visit. But that wouldn't be for a little while as well....
"California dreamin..."
fnfalman 04-06-2006, 12:17 PM How can I forget Kevin Schwantz's school?:sorry:
Gr1n1n 04-06-2006, 12:34 PM Hahaha.... its all good. You got the westside schools in mind thats all :)
