Nice bike.:dthumb: AZIROC 06-01-2006, 08:39 AM how would u compare this to the ninja500? reason i ask is a guy at work has a new ninja 500. has 1200 miles on it, never taken the MSF course and is SET on getting a new bike (want a liter bike). hes not into sport bikes, but not into cruiser.. he like the FZ1/FZ6's, SV650/SV1000, ninja 650/750/1000 styling. i told him he needs ot stay on that 500 a bit longer, but he wants to jump up.. so i told him to look for a 600.
whats ur top speed on that 650r? nother reason i ask is cause i guess the ninja500 is topped out at 90.. and he says he has it topped out all the way to and from work on the freeway (im sure a v-twin maxed out for 15 miles one way CANT be to good for an engine). hes not looking for top speed, just acceleration.
also, how much were u able to pick urs up for? ScottSellersUNR 06-02-2006, 12:55 AM the 500R will go a lot faster then 90... my old 91 EX500 does 134 (indicated)when it tachs, and did it when it was stock.
the 650 should be a nice jump, a little more power and exhileration without it become super dangerous like a new 636 or the likes may be.....
its gonna be a HUGE difference for him though.....ride a 500 then a SV650...its night and day like a GSXR600 to a GSXR1000 on speed diff.....much more power bottom to top.... but a safe amount... it wont wheelie on accident or anything
JAREL Hows the 650R doing on the track no compared to the ?Sv's with some development time u got in it now?

I don't know what the top speed on a 650R truly is...but I have been at about 105 on one...so at least that, or perhaps faster. ScottSellersUNR 06-03-2006, 12:17 AM itll be good for at least 135...... marko138 06-05-2006, 05:55 AM I don't know what the top speed on a 650R truly is...but I have been at about 105 on one...so at least that, or perhaps faster.

Very well, thanks!! It handles better than the SV. The power is still a little lacking to race in the superbike class since there aren't any cams or other serious mods available yet, but with just a full Arata exhaust and a PowerCommander I can hang with (and even pass) supersport SV's on the front straight at MAM. I passed two of them in succeeding laps in the Lightweight Superbike race last weekend. It will be the bike to beat once the power comes up to the 85HP range (it's around 75 right now).
I got 6th in LW Superbike and 4th in LW GP, and my teammate rode the bike in LW Formula 40 since his SV was not running and he won the race. So overall I'd say the little green moped is doing just fine! Trip 06-07-2006, 08:13 AM just as you start getting your performance upgrades, the rumor mill has the next gen SV getting a bigger motor. I have seen reports of anywhere from 700-800cc. jeeps84 06-07-2006, 10:53 AM The 650R or SV would be a nice improvement over the 500. DLIT 06-07-2006, 11:07 AM Sweet bike! jarelj 06-07-2006, 02:18 PM just as you start getting your performance upgrades, the rumor mill has the next gen SV getting a bigger motor. That would be sad, then the bike couldn't race in the Lightweight class any longer, it would be in the Middleweight class with all of the 600's and getting royally spanked! I think the biggest threat coming for racing might be the Ducati Monster 695, it should be out in a couple of weeks. It has power and torque right in line with the SV, but comes stock with a slipper clutch, MUCH MUCH MUCH better suspension than what the SV stock suspension is, Brembo brakes, etc. We'll have one in race trim shortly to try it out and see how it compares. Some dude was telling me last night at TWT that people are putting busa pistons in their SV's. They fit perfect and increase just about everything. You heard about people doing that? jarelj 06-07-2006, 10:33 PM Some dude was telling me last night at TWT that people are putting busa pistons in their SV's. Yes, it's a common mod, the 'Busa pistons are virtually the same bore so only a quick hone is required to fit them. The 'Busa pistons are forged rather than cast, so they're a lot stronger and also quite a bit lighter. They really don't give much of a power increase alone, you need to take a layer out of the head gasket to increase compression and they can take the increased compression better than the stock pistons. I ran a 'Busa piston motor with an intake-exhaust cam swap on my SV track bike most of last year with no problems at all, it made about 10 more HP with an exhaust and flatslides and was dead reliable. marko138 06-08-2006, 05:19 AM Yes, it's a common mod, the 'Busa pistons are virtually the same bore so only a quick hone is required to fit them.
