My 2004 600RR and 2006 Fireblade - pics

As promised :) The Blade is brand new (well, it's got 440 miles on it now - had it 3 days!). Thats a lot of miles on th 600rr and still looks great. :dthumb: Thanks :lol: Yeah, the 600 has been absolutely superb. Ridden through two winters, ice, snow, hail, rain, fog - you name it. Rode 200 miles on her once in the middle of Winter in the middle of the night, ambient air temperature was -5 degrees centigrade, and she didn't skip a beat. [Edit] when I reached my destination, I had to get a mate with a hair drier to thaw me out enough to get off her. No joke, really! Parked her outside a mates house for 2 months when I moved home and couldn't keep her at my place. She got snowed on, rained on, chain rusted solid (the sod said he'd oil it but he didn't). When I got her back, she fired up first time and after enough lube on the chain to get her to the dealer and serviced she was back on form. She's been dropped once at 40mph when I had a minor disagreement with a bus (it was totally my fault. I wasn't riding like a nutter or anything, just made a bad judgement call on that day) and I had to replace all the body panels except one. She started fine after the drop, and I rode her (with shattered fairing blowing in the breeze!) 100 miles to the dealer for repairs. In short, I love that blue bike. It's never let me down, is absolutely bulletproof, 28000+ miles on the clock and she STILL turns heads in town. What more can ya ask for?! She's got a garage for life with me. When she eventually won't go any more, I'm going to clean her up and mount her on the wall in my studio. Seriously! She'll never see another owner. She's got some minor mods: - LED arrow indicators - Black double bubble screen - Micron dual-port exhaust - The rear end (numberplate bracket area) has been reduced and tightened up - Scot Oiler (it was her 28000 mile present - she earned it!) She's staying on the road along with the new beasty. If the new Fireblade does half as well, it looks like I'll need another space on that wall when the day comes :-) Eddy aka BladeFreak

It's a weird thing, but if Honda had designed a bike specifically for me they couldn't have got it more right. I've got long arms and short legs, fairly muscular build, and the RR fits me like a glove. I can ride 200 miles with no real problem. I reckon I could go three full days without too much problem. I regularly travel 200 miles to see friends where I used to live, of which 170 miles are motorway - that's where the bulk of the mileage comes from .. 400 mile round trips every 4-6 weeks! The blade is more tiring to ride, but that's only because of the vibration from the bigger engine. It's like riding a small earthquake around! Once I've had the blade a couple of weeks, I'm planning to write a REALLY comprehensive comparison on the two bikes and really get into what their strengths are in terms of practical ownership.

Sounds awesome Blade! Don't you just love when something fits you so perfectly? I know how tough it is because I'm rather skinny, and everything in the entire world is designed for much larger (average sized) americans :( I'll be awaiting your comparisson :D

I've got a TON of stuff to say about the 600RR and the Blade is looking equally wordworthy. I've even registered a new domain specifically for that article. :readng: :dthumb:

Beautiful!!! but :withstupi what is the fireblade...? To be honest I'm not sure of the answer to that - I'm surprised you haven't heard of it. Maybe it's just the European or Non-US designation of the model. Here is the background: 1992 - The first FireBlade (note the capital B), came out. It was what I guess you guys would know as a CBR900RR. 1994 - an updated version was released, called the 'Foxeye'. It had mainly cosmetic tweaks. 1996 - a major update. New frame, and 918cc engine with styling changes 2000 - New frame, and updated to 929cc engine. This model had sharper handling. 2002 - Updated to 954cc engine and new chassis. 2004 - The Fireblade got underseat pipes (and they renamed it to the Fireblade with a small 'b' to mark the change), a 998cc engine. 2006 - Remapped ECU giving, with big gains in torque in the mid ranges. Gears have been tweaked, 2 teeth added to the rear sprocket (now 42 instead of 40). It comes stock with an electronic steering damper which responds to speed (faster you go, stiffer it gets). Upside-down forks, bigger front discs (up 10mm to 320mm), significant body redesign, enhanced air intakes, and (according to Honda) a total of 200+ modifications including a stock exhaust now containing titanium components, an exposed magnesium clutch cover on the left hand side (which looks wicked), 10mm shorter swingarm (now black), new compression ratio in the engine (up from 11.9 to 12.2:1), dual springs in the exhaust valves, stronger crank, aluminium engine casing, aggressive more aerodynamic styling. Redline is now up to 12,200 from 11,800 on earlier models, 3 kilos lighter (lighter camshafts, lighter seatrail and smaller radiator). Fuel economy is significantly better than my 600RR too. The 600RR drinks fuel over 6,500 revs. The gearing and extra torque on the Blade means you can rumble along at 80mph without reaching 6k rpm, (the point at which the second set of fuel injectors kick in on the 600). The full model is the CBR1000RR Fireblade.

The only mod I've made is the black double bubble screen, the rest is stock. I'll probably get around to installing a nice carbon fibre rear end shroud thing with inbuild flush LED indicators, and replace the front indicaters with smaller LEDs also. No hurry though. It is a lovely bike innit? :dthumb:

Fireblade there = CBR1000RR here. They have the much cooler name obviously :) Same goes with my bike, if I was over there I would be StormFreak :D

Ahhhhhh, I C...thanks ebbs & pickle, i was starting to surmise that after reading blade's narration but that really makes it clear...why do they get all the cool names?? I'm jealous!! But it is a really nice bike, my buddy has the 1000RR and LOVES it!
