1200 Duc

So ive been reading things from here and there and....., Ducati says its current 999 race motors are at the end of development and theres not much else they can do. Mean while, the Japanese 4cyl 1000cc motors are getting better and better still. Ducati really wants WSB to allow them to run 1200cc twins to even things up. No decision yet, so to urge its viability, Ducati is supposed to introduce a 1200 Sportbike (07?) to replace the 999. Taking heavily from the popular asthetics of the 916. Yeah, poor little Ducati really needs some help to be competitive in World Superbike, that 999R F06 is just a dog! It's not like 4 of the 6 podium positions in last weekend's World Superbike races went to the Ducati.......... Oh wait, yes they did!! :cheers: :wink: I'm just not sure on that combo styling.... One thing I can say for sure, is the new superbikes are far superior motorcycles in every aspect other than appearance to the prior generation.

Ducati has already stated emphatically that this photo, no to mention the entire idea of a Ducati 1200, is a poorly photoshopped hoax. Ducati has no intention of doing anything like this.:wbs:

With all due respect to the functional changes made to the 749/999 series, the 748/998 bikes were no slouches, not a few years ago and not now either. My 748R is a blast to ride on track days, with laser-accurate straightaway runs, strong braking performance and excellent cornering. Now if I could just have a little more torque to keep up with those litre bikes out of corners!

All I can think of is how expensive it'll be and that I'll never afford one.

I know that we talk about price alot, but if you think about it, production sportbike "EXOTICS" do not top out the big money list of production motorcylces. Choppers, full dress cruisers, etc are really big ticket items. Were just used to speed for cheap via japan.

I doubt I will but I'd love to own a Duc or Aprilia someday. They look sooooo good.

The 748/916 series bikes had a 10-year run, which cries out for changes just based on time-in-market; however, they were far from outdated in styling or anything else, for that matter, when the series was superceded. I've ridden (and liked) the 999, but the improvements don't warrant selling my current bike, at least not to me.
