I am trying to find how much oil should be put in my bike and what type i should use i have just bought a 2000 Yamaha V-Star 1100 with 8,000 miles on it and i have no owner's manual can you folks help me out Thanks, Toole
Yamaha always used to put the oil quantity in cc's near the filler hole but the best way is to simply check the oil using the sight glass. Have 4 quarts of oil and fill till you hit the top line in the sight glass while holding the bike straight up and down. Recheck oil after running for a few seconds when replacing your oil filter too.

It will hold 4 qts if you change the oild filter, and approx 3.5 qts if you do not change the oil filter. If it has the factory exhaust system on it, it has to come off. If you have an after market, the front pipe has to come off to get to all the bolts that holds the cover on over the filter.
This applies to the 1100 V-Stars and hope it helps.
I have always used MobilOne Delvac 15W-40. About 9-11.00 a gallon. I have 33,000 trouble free miles. (This is just my 2 cents worth, and am not trying to start an oil war, just my answers the this members question.)
