Why I ride a Kawasaki!!

OK OK!!! This came up in another thread...so here it is!!

Kawasaki's disease is a disease that usually only infants get. It generally affects the baby's joints. When I woke up that day, my left knee was about 4 times its size and I couldn't walk! It was on Turkey day to boot!!

So I was taken to U of M's Mott Childrens Hospital. At the time they had no idea what was wrong with me. It went from cancer, to tumors, to.....then somebody figured out that it was Kawasaki's disease. At the time I was only one of a handfull of cases of a child not a baby to have this. My little mark in the medical history books...but I got a un-settling side effect from this...

I was diagnosed with Mitrol Valve Prolapse or MVP for short. My Mitrol valve doesn't operate correctly. It flutters and doesn't always shut properly. I was ran so many tests from echo's to stress tests to EKG's and 48 hour monitoring. So many times that it wasn't even right!!

The problem is that when I get too stressed, or seriously upset or even just for no reason, I will get chest pains in my heart. That is the MVP acting up. It has at times made me pass out cold but not very many times. I can also feel it happening. It feels like somebody is shoving a 1" rod thru your chest/heart. Not a good feeling!

But I keep it under control with a bit of exercise with moderation and trying not to get too stressed out! It's all good. Not too many people know about it, I guess until now, just a few of my closer friends.

Another great reason why I ride Kaw's... Is that enough info N4S?!?!?

WOW...and I thought you were making that up about the Kawasaki disease. That explains why you ride them now. Have you ever felt one of those come on while riding before. Don't think it would be a good thing to have one happen at the speeds you like to ride.

Well, I get small pains more often. And yes, I'm sure I have had them on the bike. The small ones are so normal to me, that I usually don't even notice them. Like I said, I would feel a bad/big one coming on and just pull over and shut er down... It isn't like it's a heart attach and come on full strength in like a fraction of a second.

But these chest pains is also why I have caffiene (sp?) free pop/soda/coke (depending on your location in US). Don't get me wrong, I still drink normal pop, coffee, and even starbucks. But I cut out the caffiene at home to help out a bit.

Yeah, I've kinda grown up with it and take it with strides....but don't worry my MVP isn't as bad as it could be. The worse case would be that they would have to replace my mitrol valve with a titanium or plastic one....but that is only after they try medication....but I just take my small steps and stay away from all that...

If anything would happen and I would be there, I am pretty sure I can do a trach with a bic pen and some alcohol. I have seen that on there a few times. LOL

I think the last thing in the world Chris wants is you over top of him shoving a bic pen down his throat. Jeebus, if that was me.....just let me die!!!!

But anyways, dude, that sucks. I've never heard of anything like it. It sucks when you have something wrong with you that you just gotta learn to live with. Trust me, I know. I have a very severe case of TMJ, to the point where I have almost no joints left in my jaws. I get lockjaw to the point where I gotta literally punch myself to unlock it. I can't eat a lot of foods that require too much chewing, no big sandwiches, no gum, and a lot more other stuff. I've been to practically every jaw specialist on the east coast, and no one will even go near it. to hear about yours. Maybe someday with all the people working on the genetics stuff, no one will have to live with these kinds of problems anymore.

AMEN to that girl! But just as I'm sure you are...I don't think about my condition that much...you just get use to it and it becomes part of life!

I was thinking that I really should tell more people about my thing so they would know. But on that same thought, I'm pretty sure Twisty knew about it. Now whether or not he remembers is another thing...

I don't think about it too much, except when I hurt it (which doesn't take much) and I gotta talk while clenching my teeth half the day! One time, I woke up with it hurting like h*ll. Apparently either Matt clocked me one in his sleep or Jesse kicked me in his, but my jaw was dislocated and after I popped it in, I couldn't eat or talk all day!!

Definitely! But those things rarely happen. It's like you said, I hardly think about it. Does yours happen often?

It can happen from once a day to many times a day or as few as just a couple of times a week! Just depends on my stress load...
