New Buell XBRR May make for an interesting AMA season

With a stated 150+hp (about 130 whp) and 100 ftlbs of torque, this should make for an interesting FX season this year. I just hope they don't have the mechanical problems that have plagued them in the past.
With the higher rev range on this one, hopefully these problems won't come up.

Man... I can't wait to see what happens.

We are so limited to style of American bikes. We need more choices. I would love to see any American motorcycle company make a good showing at race level.

AMA: The Buell XB12RR Is Legal

This just in from AMA Pro Racing:

AMA PRO RACING CONFIRMS BUELL FORMULA XTREME ELIGIBILITY

PICKERINGTON, Ohio (February 10, 2006) - AMA Pro Racing confirmed today that the Buell XBRR motorcycle, the race-kitted variant of the road-going XB12R, is eligible for competition in the AMA Formula Xtreme Series.

In making the announcement AMA Pro Racing Director of Competition, Merrill Vanderslice noted that AMA Pro Racing technical personnel have inspected the motorcycle and it was determined that Buell has met the requirements for the XBRR to be eligible for AMA Formula Xtreme.

"By design, Formula Xtreme rules are the most liberal of all the classes within the AMA Superbike Championship," stated Vanderslice. "The class was created with broad equipment parameters and air-cooled V-twins are afforded the most latitude. Buell has based this motorcycle on its XB12R street bike and the modifications made are within the rules allowed in the class."

Vanderslice acknowledged that a press release distributed by Buell to announce the motorcycle may have created some confusion as to the bike's eligibility.

"Regardless of the wording in the release, the bottom line is that Buell has produced a racetrack version of an existing street motorcycle and modified it within the rules," he noted. "We were aware of Buell's plans and inspected the motorcycle on Friday, Feb. 3 as part of the approval process.

"The intent of the Formula Xtreme class is to include a diverse group of motorcycles, and we welcome Buell's increased participation in AMA championship racing. We are confident the company's inclusion will enhance the sport of motorcycle road racing."

True, but I sure wish it wasn't using an engine design from the 1920's ... I mean if your stuff is so antique that you need to have OVER twice the displacement, why even bother? Especially when HD has a perfectly modern liquid cooled engine in the VRod.

Great luck to Buell, I'm excited that not only are they still in AMA racing but seem to be striding forward as well, but I think they could do better.

Well, the final outcome of the race was not what I was hoping for... however, the buell with McWilliams on it DID prove that the buell can hang with the top 10, and THAT is GREAT news for Buell.
Unfortunately, they had some mechanical failures due to poor casting of some parts in the primary drive.. But that can be worked out. It seems that each bike suffered a similar fate.
Now lets just hope that McWilliams stays with Buell for the season, it is starting to sound like he just might. I think he would do better there than in Moto GP.
So, on to Barber Motorsports park in April! GO BUELL!!

What's ironic is that the clutch that failed was Japanese!
