Are Wheelies Bad?

I BOUGHT AN 07 R6 AND LOVE TO RIDE WHEELIES, BUT I HEARD THAT THE OIL PUMP ON 600'S AREN'T STRONG ENOUGH TO GET THE OIL TO THE TOP OF THE ENGINE WHILE IN WHEELIE. IS THIS TRUE AND IF SO HOW COULD I CHANGE THAT?

IF I ONLY RIDE THEM FOR A COUPLE HUNDRED FEET WOULD THAT BE DAMAGING?

YES they are bad! Bad on the motors and the forks... especially if you're new at it.

Its not that the oil pumps have a hard time pumping the oil. Its that when you are doing a big wheelie for a extended amount of time. All your oil in the oil pan goes to the rear of the motor... DUH right! So if your oil pick up tubes are in that direction or long enough or whatever the case may be. You'll basically run the motor with no oil till you set the front wheel back down.

And remember... that same oil also lubricates your tranny and clutch!

But you would think now a days... that they would design the oil sumps on these bikes to pick up from the rear of the pan to avoid this issue... I don't know 100% cause I haven't dropped the pan off any newer bikes...

you can buy aftermarket oil pickups for most bikes that have the forward oil pump designs.

I never had a problems w/ the f4i, ride up to 5-6 mile wheelies until arm pump gets so bad i have to put it down. Bikes 01 w/ same motor been stunted since first year off the showroom

when you turn your bike on, does it return the favor?

No problem.

The big deal is that in the internet domain, using the caps lock key is akin to SHOUTING at someone. Basically, it's not nice.

That's all.

but anyways, if you're riding a wheelie for any distance on a regular basis, you should get an oil pickup to keep the issue from being a big one. Honda's F4i is the only bike I know of, besides Kawi's that are stunt ready from the factory, Suzukis NEED that oil pickup installed or you'll spin a bearing quick.

you'd THINK the engineers would put the oil pickup near the back of the motor anyways because with acceleration, that oil is gonna go right to the back anyhow, so why not put the pickup where the most oil goes to?

life is but a way of killing time until you die. why care how you live, just have fun while you can.
